Previous issue date: 2018-03-21 / Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de Goiás - FAPEG / The teacher has never been a highly valued professional in Brazilian society throughout educational
history, especially with the precariousness that afflicted the teaching profession in the mid-
twentieth century and, especially, since the 1990s, with the strengthening of neoliberalism, which
brought an extreme intensification on his activities and his life. Specifically, the professors-
researchers, who in this research are those who accumulate activities in stricto sensu undergraduate
and postgraduate programs concomitantly, and who are usually subjected to the "trap" of
productivism to achieve recognition and funding. Thus, the theme of this dissertation covers the
mediations, apparent or not, established between the intensification of the professor-researcher's
work and his illness. The main objective was to investigate if, and how, the conflicting picture that
emerged interferes in the health of the professors-researchers of the Federal University of Goiás /
Jataí (UFG / REJ). A qualitative empirical research, in the first half of 2017, was carried out with
fifteen teachers who meet the established criteria and the data obtained were discussed on the basis
of the assumptions of historical and dialectical materialism in a perspective that seeks to clarify
how much the understanding of the work category is essential for the man to become a human
being emancipated from the blind alienation that falls upon his shoulders. However, in capitalist
society, human labor, that is, its vital activity, is converted into a commodity and sold as a labor
force necessary to survive, a situation that inevitably leads to the alienation of the worker in the
work process and in the relationship with the product of its activity. For further analysis, we used
authors who have a critical eye and who also rely on the historical and dialectical materialism
formulated by K. Marx and F. Engels in the 19th century, such as: G. Lukács, I. Mészáros, D.
Saviani, G. Frigotto, N. Duarte, V. Sguissardi and J. Silva Júnior. As the main discussions resulting
from this research, it is important to emphasize that most of the interviewees are aware that they
extrapolate their hours, are deprived of being closer to their relatives and friends, but can't conceive
being disengaged from the intensity of teaching activities to which they are subjected, after all it is
through productions, research and publications that they compete for better funding for new
research. As a result, it was possible to perceive that most of them are or have already been ill in
some way, and an aspect that drew attention was the need to resort to alcoholic beverages,medicines or even to a greater intensification of teaching activities as a resource to deal with this
situation, which undoubtedly affects their mental and physical health more and more. Trying to
understand the contradictions that constitute the motivations and justifications given to stay in the
"game" that intensifies the teaching work, is the purpose of the research. This dissertation was
developed in the Educational Policies, Management and Teacher Training Line of Research. / O professor nunca foi um profissional muito valorizado na sociedade brasileira no decorrer da
história educacional, ainda mais com a precarização que assolou a profissão docente em meados
do século XX e, principalmente, a partir da década de 1990, com o fortalecimento do
neoliberalismo, que trouxe uma intensificação extrema sobre suas atividades e sua vida.
Especificamente os professores-pesquisadores, que nesta pesquisa são aqueles que acumulam
atividades em curso de graduação e em Programa de pós-graduação stricto sensu
concomitantemente, e que normalmente encontram-se submetidos à “armadilha” do produtivismo
para conseguir reconhecimento e financiamentos. Diante disso, o tema desta dissertação abrangeas mediações, aparentes ou não, que estabelecem entre a intensificação do trabalho do professor-
pesquisador e o seu adoecimento. O objetivo principal constituiu em investigar se, e como, o quadro
conflituoso que surgiu interfere na saúde dos professores-pesquisadores da Universidade Federal
de Goiás/Regional Jataí (UFG/REJ). Foi realizada uma pesquisa empírica qualitativa, no primeiro
semestre de 2017, com quinze docentes que atendem aos critérios estabelecidos e os dados obtidos
foram discutidos com base nos pressupostos do materialismo histórico e dialético numa perspectiva
que busca esclarecer o quanto a compreensão da categoria trabalho é essencial para que o homem
se torne um ser humano emancipado da alienação cega que recai sobre seus ombros. Porém, na
sociedade capitalista, o trabalho humano, isto é, sua atividade vital, é convertido em mercadoria e
vendido como força de trabalho necessária para sobreviver, situação que leva, inevitavelmente, à
alienação do trabalhador no processo de trabalho e na relação com o produto de sua atividade. Para
promover a análise, foram utilizados autores que têm o olhar crítico e que também se apoiam no
materialismo histórico e dialético formulado por K. Marx e F. Engels, no século XIX, como: G.
Lukács, I. Mészáros, D. Saviani, G. Frigotto, N. Duarte, V. Sguissardi e J. Silva Júnior. Como
principais discussões resultantes dessa pesquisa é importante ressaltar que a maioria dos
entrevistados sabem que extrapolam suas cargas horárias, ficam distantes de seus familiares e
amigos, mas não se veem desvencilhados da intensidade de atividades docentes a que estão
submetidos, afinal é por meio de produções, pesquisas e publicações que competem por melhores
financiamentos para novas pesquisas. Como consequência, foi possível perceber que a maior parte
está ou já esteve adoecida de alguma maneira, e um aspecto que chamou a atenção foi a necessidade
em recorrer à bebida alcoólica, aos medicamentos ou mesmo à uma maior intensificação das
atividades docentes como recurso para lidar com essa situação, o que decisivamente afeta cada vez
mais sua saúde mental e física. Tentar entender as contradições que constituem as motivações e
justificativas dadas para se manter no “jogo” que intensifica o trabalho docente, é o propósito da
pesquisa. Essa dissertação foi desenvolvida na Linha de Pesquisa Políticas Educacionais, Gestão e
Formação de Professores.
