Previous issue date: 2016 / Paisagem, segundo a Convenção Europeia da Paisagem, é qualquer parte do território tal como é percebida pela população e cujo caráter seja resultado da ação e da interação de fatores naturais e/ou humanos. A paisagem pode ser interpretada por cada observador e, como tal, sujeita a sua percepção. Caráter da paisagem é entendido como conjunto ou combinação particular, reconhecível e consistente de elementos que distinguem uma paisagem da outra e confere a cada uma delas um particular senso de lugar. A principal contribuição desse estudo está na identificação dos elementos que caracterizam a paisagem da imigração italiana no sul de Santa Catarina a fim de garantir a manutenção do seu caráter. O recorte geográfico abrange o município de Pedras Grandes, no qual se localiza o trecho mais representativo do antigo caminho dos imigrantes italianos aberto em 1877 para a implantação da colônia Azambuja, considerada a colônia sede da imigração italiana no sul de Santa Catarina. Para alcançar esse objetivo, a pesquisa utilizou-se de estudo fotográfico e textual a fim de reconhecer as transformações da paisagem e a percepção de moradores e visitantes do local em estudo. Para isso foram utilizados a iconografia histórica, os registros fotográficos e relatos de viajantes da internet publicado em seus blogs pessoais e aplicadas entrevistas com os moradores da área em estudo. A transformação da paisagem mais significativa deu-se pela desativação da linha ferra e pela remoção dos trilhos da antiga EFDTC no centro urbano do município de Pedras Grandes. Como resultado do estudo da percepção da paisagem, identificou-se que os núcleos históricos e referenciais construídos da paisagem, o ciclo econômico do carvão, o patrimônio natural e o patrimônio imaterial são os elementos que definem o caráter do antigo caminho dos imigrantes italianos no sul de Santa Catarina.<br> / Abstract : Landscape, according to the European Landscape Convention, is any part of the territory as the population perceives it, and whose character is a result of the action and interaction of natural and/or human factors. The landscape can be interpreted by each observer and, as such, subject to his or her perception. The landscape character is understood as a whole or a particular combination, recognizable and consistent of elements that distinguish a landscape from another and confers to each one of them a particular sense of place. The main contribution of this study is to identify the elements that characterize the landscape of Italian immigration in the south of Santa Catarina in order to ensure the maintenance of its character. The geographical coverage comprehends the municipality of Pedras Grandes, in which is located the most representative piece of the ancient path of Italian immigrants opened in 1877 for the implementation of Azambuja colony, considered the main colony for Italian immigration in southern Santa Catarina. The research used a photographic and textual study to achieve this goal and in order to recognize the transformation of the landscape and the perception of residents and visitors on the site under study. With this purpose the historical iconography, photographic records and reports from travelers on the internet published in their personal blogs were used, as well as interviews conducted with the residents of the area under study. The transformation of the most significant landscape was due to the deactivation of the railroad and the removal of the rails of the former EFDTC in the urban center of the municipality of Pedras Grandes. The results of the landscape perception study found that the built historic cores and references from the landscape, the coal business cycle, natural and intangible heritages are the elements that define the character of the ancient path of Italian immigrants in the south Santa Catarina.
