Dentro desse contexto, a cidade de Pelotas tem assumido destaque, por possuir um acervo de edificações construídas principalmente no século XIX, com grande potencial para esse tipo de intervenção e que têm sido reutilizadas através de projetos que expressam diferentes abordagens frente ao patrimônio edificado. O objetivo geral da pesquisa foi analisar os projetos de reutilização de edificações de interesse histórico e cultural pré-existentes, de modo a ampliar o universo da análise e reflexão sobre suas abordagens e seus resultados. Através da revisão de literatura apresentou-se um percurso de reflexão partindo dos conceitos de Cultura, Memória, Patrimônio e a sua preservação, abordando a complexidade de tais temas e suas relações diretas com a reutilização de edificações de interesse histórico e cultural chegando até o estado da arte do tema desde suas possíveis origens, sua evolução, no mundo, no Brasil e na região sul. Foram desenvolvidos e aplicados métodos de descrição e análise de projetos de reutilização de edificações de interesse histórico e cultural na cidade de Pelotas RS, abordando a reutilização como prática projetual, demonstrando suas possibilidades como método, influenciada e/ou condicionada por diferentes categorias de concepção arquitetônica consideradas para o estudo. Obteve-se uma demonstração dos processos de concepção envolvidos e de possibilidades e resultados alcançados em projetos de reutilização, capazes de fornecer orientação sobre método de projeto ao profissional incumbido de reutilizar ou recuperar edificações de interesse histórico e cultural.
Projecting and adapting buildings for new uses was always among the attributions of the professional architect. Currently, it assumes great importance due to increasing demand for such projects, mainly in the centers of the cities. In this context, the city of Pelotas RS is distinguished for possessing a quantity of buildings of the nineteenth century with great potential for this type of intervention and these ones have been reused through projects that express different positions about the built patrimony. The general objective of the research was to analyze reuse projects of pre-existing buildings of historical and cultural interest, in order to extend the universe of the reflection on the different positions of the architects when they have to treat with the specific necessities of each pre-existence and on the reached results by them. Through the review of literature it's presented a journey of reflection about the concepts of Culture, Memory, Heritage and its preservation, addressing the complexity of these issues and their relations with the reuse of buildings of historical and cultural interest coming to the state of art about the subject since its possible origins, its evolution in the world, in Brazil and in the southern region. Methods of description and analysis of projects for reuse of buildings of historical and cultural interest in the city of Pelotas RS were developed and applied, addressing the reuse as practice of project, demonstrating their potential as a method, influenced and / or conditioned by different categories of architectural conception selected for the study. The architects that made reusing projects had been interviewed and the conception of each project was analyzed according to categories idea, use, perception, system and speech, which had presented different influences in each studied case. It was obtained a demonstration of architectural conception processes involved and the possibilities and achievements in projects for reuse, capable of providing guidance on the method of project for the professionals that have to reuse or to recoup preexisting buildings.
