Previous issue date: 2008-10-26 / Introduction: Violence against women is a global problem of public health and violate
principles of equality. Spite of all earned rights, existent laws, and public policies that have
been introduced, women keep on suffering from violence. Objectives: We studied the various
forms of violence, the characteristics of the victim and the relationship with the abuser.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective and descriptive study, July to December 2005, the
Medical Legal Institute (IML) of the city of Timon-MA with women who have suffered some
type of violence and tried to go to the Special Care Women ( DEAM) for record of the police
reports (BO), being sent to the IML to the implementation of peer review. Results: Of the 106
cases studied, 78% were of physical violence inflicted by white gun, sticks, stones, feet, hands
and teeth. In 52% of cases the hand was used to strike and strangle. In 61% the lesions were
multiple women presenting with 2 or up to 5 types of injuries such as bruises (34%) and
excoriation (27%). As the location of the lesions, 30% were in the head and upper limbs 34%,
which demonstrates the intention of the brutal aggressor in hurt and leave visible marks, since
79% was observed in the presence of harm to physical integrity of women. Sexual violence
was reported in 13 cases, in which 54% of women were raped. Conclusions: The information
collected from the IML showed that violence against women does not restrict itself to a
certain age, race, profession or marital status and in 54% of assaults, the perpetrator was
known by the woman, of which 44% were husband / boyfriend. / Introdução:A violência contra a mulher é um problema mundial de saúde pública e fere
princípios éticos de igualdade. Apesar de todos os direitos conquistados, das leis existentes,
das políticas públicas implantadas, as mulheres continuam sofrendo violência. Objetivos:
Foram estudadas as diversas formas de violência, as características da vítima e o grau de
parentesco com o agressor. Material e métodos: Foi realizado um estudo descritivo e
retrospectivo, de julho a dezembro de 2005, no Instituto Médico Legal (IML) da cidade de
Timon-MA com mulheres que sofreram algum tipo de violência e procuraram a Delegacia de
Atendimento Especial à Mulher (DEAM) para registro do Boletim de Ocorrência (BO), sendo
encaminhadas ao IML para a realização de exame pericial. Resultados: Dos 106 casos
estudados, 78% foram de violência física infligida por arma branca, paus, pedras, pés, mãos e
dentes. Em 52% dos casos a mão foi utilizada para golpear e esganar. Em 61% as lesões
foram múltiplas com a mulher apresentando 2 ou até 5 tipos de lesões tais como
equimoses(34%) e escoriações(27%). Quanto à localização das lesões, 30% foram na cabeça e
34% nos membros superiores, o que demonstra a intenção brutal do agressor em ferir e deixar
marcas visíveis, uma vez que em 79% foi constatada a presença de agravo à integridade física
da mulher. A violência sexual foi notificada em 13 casos, nos quais 54% das mulheres foram
estupradas. Conclusões: As informações colhidas junto ao IML demonstram que a violência
contra a mulher não se restringe a uma determinada faixa etária, cor, profissão ou estado civil
e que em 54% das agressões, o agressor era conhecido pela mulher, sendo que destes, 44% era
marido/namorado.
