Previous issue date: 2007 / This research's objective was to explore the Quality of Life in the elderly of Veranopolis-Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil through the WHOOQOL-Brief. Also, it associated the scores of instrument with variables of social demographics and depression symptoms across the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS). The results showed that an increase in depression symptoms caused a decrease in the Quality of Life of the elderly population. Also, it that people without medication and that make leisures activiti are good quality of life. / Este estudo objetivou avaliar Qualidade de Vida em um grupo de idosos de Veranópolis, através do WHOQOL-Bref. Além disso, relacionou os escores obtidos por meio do instrumento com variáveis sociodemográficas e sintomas depressivos, através da Escala de Depressão Geriátrica (GDS). Os resultados apontaram que quanto maior a existência de sintomas depressivos, menor é a QV entre os idosos. Também apontou que o fato de não utilizar medicação diária e realizar atividades de lazer são preditores de uma boa QV.
