Bakgrund: Varje år drabbas fler och fler människor av cancer och de flesta har många funderingar, tankar och känslor kopplade till både sjukdomen i sig och till den behandling som ges. Strålbehandling är en av de vanligaste behandlingsformerna mot cancer idag. Strålning medför nästan alltid att patienten tvingas genomgå ett antal mer eller mindre obehagliga biverkningar för att bli fri sin cancer. Därmed finns en risk att patientens hälsa och välmående försämras. För att vi som sjuksköterskor ska kunna ge god vård är det viktigt att få en djupare förståelse för patienternas situation under och efter strålbehandling. Syfte: Syftet med denna studie var att beskriva upplevelsen i samband med strålbehandling hos personer med cancer. Metod: Litteraturöversikt enligt Fribergs metod (2012) där 11 artiklar med kvalitativ design analyserades till resultatet. Resultat: Tre huvudteman framkom; Upplevelse av vårdmiljön, Hela tillvaron påverkas samt Social isolering och mellanmänskliga relationer. Miljön i strålbehandlingsrummet upplevdes som skrämmande och klaustrofobiskt. Patienternas tillvaro påverkades i form av fysiska och psykiska konsekvenser. Vätske- och nutritionsproblem dominerade vid strålning av huvud och hals och ledde till malnutrition och viktnedgång. De flesta upplevde en social isolering, antingen på grund av isolering i behandlingsrummet eller att man inte ville träffa människor på grund av de fysiska symtom som uppstod. Diskussion: Resultatet som innebar fysiska, psykiska och sociala konsekvenser till följd av strålbehandlingen relateras till Katie Erikssons begrepp om lidande; Sjukdomslidande, vårdlidande och livslidande diskuteras i relation till de huvudteman som framkom. / Background: Every year more and more people are affected with cancer and numerous people have many thoughts, concerns and feelings associated with both the disease itself and the provided treatment. Radiation therapy is one of the most common forms of treatment for cancer today. Radiation will almost always mean that the patient is forced to undergo a number of more or less unpleasant side effects to become free from their cancer. There is therefore a risk that the patients health and wellbeing becomes inferior. That is why it is important to gain a deeper understanding of the patients situation during and after radiotherapy so that we as nurses should be able to provide good care. Aim: The aim of this study was to describe the experience in connection with radiation therapy for people with cancer. Methods: Literature Review by Friberg's method (2012) where 11 articles with qualitative design were analyzed for the results. Results: Three main themes emerged: Experience of the care environment, Whole life is affected and Social isolation and interpersonal relationships. The environment of the radiotherapy room was perceived as frightening and claustrophobic. The patients lives were affected in form of physical and psychological consequences. Fluid and nutrition problems dominated by radiation of the head and neck, leading to malnutrition and weight loss. Most of the participants experienced social isolation, either because of the isolation in the treatment room or they did not want to meet people because of the physical symptoms that occurred. Discussions: The result that meant physical, psychological and social consequences of radiotherapy is related to Katie Eriksson's concept of suffering; disease suffering, care suffering and suffering of life is discussed in relation to the main themes that emerged.
