Många av de klassiska sjökrigsteoretiker som vi idag studerar, levde och verkade i entid, då striden till sjöss bedrevs på ett till stor del annorlunda sätt och med annanutrustning. Kan deras beskrivna metoder fortfarande anses tillämpliga idag, eller kan vise en tendens till förändring? Syftet med denna uppsats har varit att undersöka i vilkenutsträckning som det moderna sjökriget använder de sjökrigsmetoder somsjökrigsteoretikern och historikern, Sir Julian Corbett, tecknade ner i början av 1900-talet. Som empiriskt fall för att pröva hans metoder används Falklandskriget 1982. Föratt uppfylla uppsatsens syfte kommer följande frågeställningar att besvaras: Vilkasjökrigsmetoder finns i den teoretiska litteraturen skriven av Corbett? Tillämpasfortfarande dessa metoder i moderna krig? Kan man eventuellt urskilja några nyametoder? En av uppsatsens slutsatser är att Corbetts sjökrigsmetoder fortfarandeanvänds i moderna krig om än med en något annorlunda tillämpning. En avanledningarna till detta är den taktiska utvecklingen. En annan slutsats visar att denteknologiska utvecklingen har gjort att grunderna i Corbetts metoder lever kvar menpraktiseras på ett något annorlunda sätt och med andra medel. Detta beror bland annatpå att vapen och plattformar har förbättrats. / Many of the classic naval warfare theorists we study today lived and worked intimes when naval battles were generally conducted in a different way and withdifferent equipment. Can the methods they describe still be consideredapplicable today, or do we see a tendency of change?The aim of this essay has been to investigate to what degree modern navalwarfare employs the naval warfare methods that the naval warfare theorist andhistorian Sir Julian Corbett documented at the beginning of the 20th century.The Falklands War of 1982 is used as an empirical case to test his theories. Thefollowing questions are posed to achieve the aim of the essay: What navalwarfare theories are to be found in Corbett’s works? Are these operationalmethods still employed in modern warfare? Can new operational methods bediscerned? One of the conclusions reached in the essay is that Corbett’s navalwarfare methods are still used in modern warfare, albeit slightly differentlyapplied.
