The thesis aims to examine how EU’s response to the critics from Azerbaijan’s foreign policy bodies is produced and see whether Azerbaijan’s geopolitical position on the crossroads of powerful international actors have had an impact. The discursive analytical approach “What’s the problem represented to be?” makes it possible to study how the EU’s rhetoric in policies and statements towards Azerbaijan has been created and what assumptions and ideas layed behind. After a thorough review of a number of relevant policy documents and statements from the EU officials it emerged that the response on a chosen critic is created in a way that promotes EU’s own interests and secures its influence and actorness in the region. This can be seen in the creation of a certain response and in silencing some other aspects of the examined critics. The result shows an interesting pattern of the way in which the rhetoric is being adapted in order to meet difficulties and resistance of Azerbaijan’s officials in the relation with Azerbaijan.
