This essay addresses the research on the use of textbooks and the content of the subject social studies in Swedish schools. The research shows varying results regarding the perception of the subject's core and how the content should be organized. Some argue that the subject is vague and unclear, while others argue that there is a strong selective tradition among social studies teachers. The research also shows that textbooks play a significant role in the teaching of social studies, especially when it comes to economics education. Studies have identified which concepts are most commonly found in textbooks within the subject and which ones are less common. It is emphasized that high-quality textbooks are important for building cumulative knowledge and understanding the subject in depth. Pedagogical subject didactic knowledge (PCK) is an important component for teachers in social studies. PCK is about the teacher's knowledge of the subject and how to best teach it. The tool CoRe is used to develop and analyze the teacher's PCK in social studies. The research also points out that current events and news have a strong connection to the teaching of social studies and that textbooks are used as an important source in teaching. However, the study emphasizes that the use of textbooks varies depending on the school level and subject. In my work, I have analyzed and discussed textbooks in social economics at the high school level using the CoRe tool. The goal was to examine the methods conveyed in the textbooks and how they relate to selected economic concepts for the study. It is clear that it is of great importance for students to learn these concepts in social economics since economics involves making choices based on limited resources. It is emphasized that students need to understand the distribution and scarcity of resources in order to relate the subject to their own everyday lives.
