Tänk på att det sitter en människa bakom skärmen : En kvalitativ studie av skolkuratorers hantering av nätkränkningar bland gymnasieelever

The aim of this study is to deepen the understanding of how upper secondary school counselors work with cyber bullying, both proactive and reactive, among upper secondary school students. Cyber bullying became a phenomenon in the early 21st century due to the growth of social medias during the past few years. The growth of social medias have generated an increased number of people being bullied through pictures and videos. Cyber bullying has become a challenge to manage for the school and the school's counselors. This study is based on a qualitative approach, we used semi-structured interviews and made seven interviews with upper secondary school counselors to obtain our empirical material. The material from the interviews is analyzed by using social constructivism, role theory, Goffmans stigma and Cooleys “Looking glass self”. The results showed that the upper secondary school counselors have different opinions about the responsibility regarding cyber bullying. Some counselors think it is the school's problem when the bullying continues in the classroom whilst some think it is their responsibility as soon as they find out about the bullying. To prevent cyber bullying we think upper secondary school counselors should work more proactive. They could also bennefit from initiate a discussions with the students regarding what suitable behaviour is while on the Internet and what cyber bullying can result in.
