Sjuksköterskors möte med patienter är en del av arbetet och kontakt med blodsmittade patienter är oundviklig. Antalet blodsmittade patienter i samhället tycks öka därför har vi valt att genomföra denna studie, (Smittskyddsinstitutet, 2009a) Syftet med studien är att beskriva sjuksköterskors upplevelser av mötet med blodsmittade patienter. Datamaterialet består av tre intervjuer med sjuksköterskor som har minst ett års erfarenhet av yrket och i sin yrkesutövning kommit i kontakt med blodsmittade patienter. Data har analyserats med den deskriptiva fenomenologiska metod som presenterats av Amedeo Giorgi. Resultaten visar att följande meningsstrukturer av levda erfarenheter har identifierats i analysen: (1) Fördomar (2) Att bemöta alla patienter lika (3) Rädslor (4) Vikten av kunskap och rutiner (5) Många möten leder till erfarenhet (6) Undvikande / To nurses, the meeting with patients is a natural part of the profession this also means that the possibility to get indirect contact with infectious blood in patients is unavoidable. Infectious blood diseases seem to be on the increase in the society, and hence is why we, as authors, have chosen to investigate this area within the medical field. The aim of the study is to describe nurses’ experiences in the meetings with blood infected patients.We have, in this study, chosen to apply the descriptive phenomenological method presented by Amedeo Giorgi. Furthermore, we have chosen to interview three nurses having at least one year of clinical experience and during this time have cared for infected patients. The result reveal the following categories identified in the analysis: (1) Prejudice, (2) To meet/treat all patients equally, (3) Fear factors, (4) The importance of knowledge and routines, (5) More meetings lead to experience (6) avoidance.
