Interaktiv datavisualisering på mobila enheter

Data is an incredibly resourceful commodity these days, but it has to be analyzed before it becomes really valuable. Visualizations add a layer of abstraction, making the data more presentable and easier to analyze – a much needed tool with the emergence of Big Data. Recent developments and innovations in mobile devices has led to a shift in how we do our work-related and everyday computing, creating challenges for data visualization designers. More research is needed on data visualizations for mobile devices – especially when dealing with large datasets. By developing a prototype and conducting usability tests this study set out to test different interactive charts on a mobile device and find potential problems and give recommendations on how to avoid them. The results showed that overviews, detailed views, and over-cluttering were common problem areas, which coincides with related research. Although the ability to intelligible display large amounts of data differed between the charts, the users of this study were able to accurately finish the tasks asked of them with the help of interactive elements such as zoom, panning and filtering. While some issues were reported, like the sensitivity of the zoom function and panning, the overall results were good and interaction proved to be a vital tool in the user’s ability to accurately read the data.
