The Earth is getting warmer at an alarming rate. The cause for the increase in temperature is predominantly anthropogenic emissions. Sweden’s territorial greenhouse gas emissions was 50,9 million tons CO2e in 2019, emissions from forestry and consumption not included. According to the Paris agreement, the world’s emissions has to reach net zero by year 2045. The purpose of this report was to produce a carbon dioxide budget for a municipality in Sweden and further examine how those emissions can be reduced and at what pace. To find out the municipality’s inhabitant’s emissions, a survey was sent out to the inhabitants regarding consumption habits. Statistics for territorial emissions was retrieved from RUS emission database. From this and emission factors, a total was calculated. A total of 11 061 CO2e per person over 15 years in the municipality was calculated. It was found that the largest emission category was transport. The territorial emissions from RUS reached 74 677 CO2e. The total for the whole municipality reached 161 109,4 CO2e per year. A proposal for reducing the emissions was set to either a 5-10% decrease per year or 25% per year. There are several ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Some of these ways are planting trees, smart city-planning, changing eating habits, shopping second hand, driving less and using renewable energy. In conclusion, there are several challenges in order to succeed with the reductions. The most efficient way should be to begin working with the categories that release the most greenhouse gases.
