Vad säger boken egentligen? : – en religionssociologisk studie om hur läromedel inom religion för årskurs 7–9framställer judendom, kristendom och islam.

This study in the field of sociology of religion examine how Judaism, Christianity and Islam havebeen interpreted and represented over time in Swedish elementary school textbooks in the subjectof Religion. Three research questions were formulated to see how gender, sexuality and ethnicityare portrayed and how this portrayal has changed over time. The study examines four books, whichwere written between the years 1989 and 2014, by using a qualitative research approach. The theoryIntersectionality is applied in order to analyze and answer the formulated research questions. Theresults from the study show that Judaism, Islam and Christianity have been represented in differentways in the textbooks and that the interpretation has changed over time. Islam is often presentedas an antithesis to the West and European Christianity. However, the change over time shows aslight improvement of the representation of Islam in the studied textbooks. Judaism is in thematerial often represented as a religion that urges people to study, and that the Jewish people oftenare very intelligent. Christianity is the normative lens which the other religions are seen throughand throughout the textbooks it is the religion that is given most focus.
