[pt] O Avô do Tempo, Diário de um Meteorologista é o título da
dissertação de
mestrado que teve como objeto os vinte e oito volumes de
diários deixados por Joaquim
de Sampaio Ferraz. A partir da documentação deixada por um
indivíduo de classe
média urbana, um profissional liberal, pai de família, foi
possível perceber valores
éticos, regras de bem-viver, saber cotidiano, saúde,
dificuldades em manter uma família
numerosa, construção de uma vida profissional dentro de
uma especialidade que
começava a se desenvolver no mundo ocidental e a se
estruturar no Brasil. O tempo é o
grande protagonista, a mudança do ritmo do tempo, sua
aceleração sensível na época
em que o autor/ editor viveu, a virada do século XX, tempo
de grandes e rápidas
transformações. A valorização dos diários e de outras
escritas de si data de poucas
décadas e vem despertando interesse e motivando a criação
de organizações nacionais e
internacionais; na academia os estudos ainda são
relativamente raros, daí o interesse de
desenvolver o tema a partir das fontes preservadas, por
mais de um século, pela família

title of the Msc
dissertation based on the analysis of the twenty-eight
volumes of the joumal
written by Joaquim de Sampaio Ferraz from 1900 to 1940.
From the
documentation left by an ordinary middle class man, civil
servant and urban
professional, a family man, it became possible to aprehend
ethical values, life
sty1e, rules for everyday life, and also to acknowledge
his difficulties to develop a
scientific career that was new in Brazil and modem for the
world of the turn of the
twentieth century, a time of rapid changes and
transformation. The appreciation of
joumals and other types of writing of the self dates back
from just a few decades
and has arisen interest and motivated the creation of
numerous national and
international organizatons. In academia the studies are
still relatively rare, thus the
interest in developing this issue from the sources
preserved by the Sampaio Ferraz
family over more than a century.
