A Migration Management Framework Proposal For Cobol/cics Based Mainframes

Kaplan, Halil 01 January 2010 (has links) (PDF)
Today, mainframes contain a considerable portion of business applications worldwide. It is estimated that the current inventory of production COBOL running on mainframes is 150 to 200 billion lines of code. Despite the efforts to change within the mainframe environment, these mainframes, nowadays, face major problems for host organizations due to a combined set of financial, business related, technical and organizational problems. Moreover, the factors like diminishing resources (COBOL programmers), lack of documentation, inability to integrate with other systems, increasing maintenance costs, etc. have caused the organizations search for migration solutions. To overcome this problem within the context of modernization, over the years several main migration approaches that ranges from simple screen scraping methods to complete re-write of applications or re-hosting of platforms have been developed. To contribute to the solution of this overall problem, this thesis proposes a methodology framework specifically for the COBOL/CICS based mainframes. The research studies in this topic within this field are mainly focused on the technical aspects whereas our concentration is covering not only that but the other essential aspects of the problem domain. These are organizational view, project management view and process view. Within the thesis study, a special interest is given to the modernization strategy selection among migration, rewrite, packaged and do-nothing alternatives. Experimental results are also provided within the thesis to prove the usability of the approach for this selection.

Transnational Marriages: Family- Forming Migration From Turkey To Germany

Bayraktar, Isil 01 September 2011 (has links) (PDF)
This study examines the patterns of family-forming migration from Turkey to Germany as one of the categories of marriage migration by taking into account the effects of migration policies, societal factors in both home and host countries as well as gender differences. The main objective of this study is to investigate how and for what purpose transnational marriages are used as strategies by migrants. This study assumes that restrictive migration policies of Germany paves the way for transnational marriages even if the focus is not on the marriage, itself. In this respect, considering the last changes in German Residence Act, within the research for this study, in-depth interviews were held with 10 men and 11 women who are in the process of family-forming migration. German language courses in Ankara were selected as research site in order to reach family-forming migration candidates who were learning German as a necessity of German Language Legislation. The significance of the study comes from its focus on the perceptions of family-forming migration in several issues in the pre-migration process which is different than the migration researches focusing on experiences after migration. Study examines the role of transnational ties existing both in Turkey and Germany, family values and economic factors in Turkey on patterns of family-forming migration which is changed by gender differences.

European Commission, migration and the external dimension : a study of organisation

Abdelkhaliq, Nur January 2012 (has links)
The thesis examines how the European Commission incorporated and implemented migration policy as part of the European Union’s external relations, also known as the external dimension of migration. The focus of the thesis is on the period between the coming into force of the Amsterdam Treaty in 1999, when migration largely came to fall under the Commission’s remit, and the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty in 2009. The study compares how the Commission’s Directorates-General (DGs) involved in the external dimension of migration during this period—Justice, Liberty and Security, External Relations and Development—made sense of the changes introduced to their responsibilities. The thesis proposes that the concept of organisational culture, drawn from organisational sociology, can explain how actors interact with and collectively make sense of their organisational environment. The main argument of the thesis is that each of the DGs possesses an organisational culture based on its members’ shared readings of priorities and the function of their unit. The thesis examines these divergent organisational cultures to gauge how policies are internalised and translated into output. The analysis contributes to the external governance literature, which has theorised the external dimension of migration as a continuation of European integration processes without accounting for internal organisational dynamics. It also leads to reflections on organisational sociology theorising, and the implications of the findings on studies of organisational change and implementation. This thesis is divided into five chapters. The first provides a background for how the Commission came to be involved in migration policy. The second provides a theoretical framework for the study, building on organisational sociology. The remaining chapters empirically analyse the three elements of organisational culture: DG members’ sources of organisational identity, their perceptions and prioritisations of the external dimension of migration, and their reading of the Commission’s implementation practices, focusing on relations with Morocco as a tool for illustrating the latter.

Por último, discute-se quais são as implicações políticas e repercussões institucionais na prática do circuito migração ¿remessas ¿ re-incorporação / Abstract: The permanent interconnection of the migrants with its native countries is the distinguishing characteristic of the international dispIacements in the contemporary age. This work focuses on two manifestations of this particularitity that emerge simultaneously in Latin America: the growth of the money transferences that the migrants send its native countries (remittances) and the change of attitude of these emitting states, granting rights and elaborating programs to reintegrate disIocated peopIe to its respective national projects. Through a recopilation of demographic data and ciphers on the behavior of the remittances, the two first chapters give an account of the volumetric evolution of the population and monetary flows in the region of Latin America and the Caribbean since 1990. A bibliographical synthesis of some studies of case around the influence of this money in the receiving economies is presented in the chapter three. The three subsequent chapters examine the Colombian particular context in terms of exits of peopIe and money entrances in the country in the Iast decade of century XX. The next chapter is a documentary survey of the measures that the Colombian institutions have impIemented to attract its emigrated in the Iast fifteen years, granting them rights and including them in its social agendas. Finally, we discuss the political implications of the circuit: migration - remittances - re-incorporation / Mestrado / Ciencia Politica / Mestre em Ciência Política

Regularizace nelegální migrace / Regularization of illegal migration

Smrčinová, Zuzana January 2009 (has links)
This thesis introduces the phenomenon of illegal migration and the ways of its solution. This thesis focuses on the way of regularization or legalization of the illegal status of the foreigner already residing in the state. In the thesis, the meaning of regularization is presented and an analysis of the three european countries with regularization experience is made. The experience of these three countries can be an inspiration for Czech Republic which has been facing the phenomenon of illegal migration for a short time and refuses the regularization at this moment. At the end of this thesis, there are some proposals on what the Czech republic should concern about before the debates about the regularization. The thesis deals also with the conditions under which the regularization would be meaningful if the Czech Republic considers it.

Vztahy Evropské unie vůči třetím zemím v oblasti vnější migrační politiky – příležitosti a rizika / External Migration Policy of the European Union in Relationships With Third World Countries - Opportunities and Risks

Tůmová, Tereza January 2015 (has links)
Diploma thesis focuses on migration policy in the European Union in the field of human migration flows from third world countries. The main aim of this thesis is to define global approach to theories of migration and analyze the development of external migration policies of The European Union since 1985 to the present when massive migration flows of people from third world countries hit Europe. Another aim is to evaluate consequences, opportunities and risks for destination countries which can be affected by the international migration. These chapters also introduce the legislative framework of migration policies in the European Union and they introduce security strategies and organizations that are involved in the management of migration flows to the European Union. Second part of this thesis analyses a massive migration flows to EU region after year 2011 and this part also identifies changes in migration policy as a response to this unexpected situation. Another aim is to confirm or disprove the hypotheses, whether migratory flows are the main driver in European population growth and whether there are any changes in the security issues across whole European region. The thesis follows the datasets from European Commission, Eurostat, Europol and from another organizations collecting information on key statistics in the EU. On the basis of the acquired data, the hypotheses about the existence of a correlation between the immigration, population growth and changes in the security field were confirmed.
