Laestander, Elin January 2018 (has links)
The search for better quality of life is in our human nature. Health and wellness tourism is therefore not a new phenomenon, but the business is growing in modern day society. Our stressful lives and the need to get away from it is one reason for this change. Traveling to a health destination is one way to increase our wellness state. The purpose of this study is to explore what aspects that effects the well-being of visitors of health destinations in the north. Using the theory of therapeutic landscapes as the theoretical framework, this was done by a case study of Källans spa, which is a spa facility in Västerbotten northern Sweden. People come here to get away from everyday life, relax and recharge in a natural environment.   Data collection was collected through interviews with overnight guests at Källans spa. The material has later been analysed using thematic analysis to find connections with therapeutic landscapes. Results show important aspects for well-being in the physical and social environment while well-being aspects from the spiritual environment appear weak.

Martins, Lucione de Bitencourt January 2015 (has links)
Além disso, promovem a aprendizagem e o desenvolvimento do raciocínio matemático. / This work presents a learning proposal which is based on the development of a research using some questions from the Brazilian Math Olympiads of Public Schools (OBMEP – Olimpíada Brasileira de Matemática das Escolas Públicas) as teaching materials, followed by experimentation in elementary and high school. The selected questions allow different solving ways; especially because they are discursive cross- questions and pseudo cross of the second phase. The research was conducted during eight meetings with 52 students from two schools of the public school system, between August and September 2014. The main objective was to develop a sequence of activities or teaching materials that showed the importance of the strategies used by the students in solving the problems. The different strategies used by the participants were analyzed according to the theory of Problem Solving (Polya and Onuchic-Allevato), with emphasis on the construction of a Landscapes of Investigation (Skovsmose). By reflecting about it and analyzing the recorded strategies in the search for solving the problems, teacher-student, we conclude that these questions foment for the understanding of the mathematical concepts and content. Besides, they promote learning and development of mathematical logic.

This work has as its main objective to present a study of nature representations in the photographic reports published in O Cruzeiro magazine, from the years 1954 to1961. Part in a conglomerate of diversified companies owned by the business magnate Assis Chateaubriand, O Cruzeiro was considered the most important news medium in the country, during the 1950s. Photojournalism was used as a new language which highlighted the movement, based on a dynamic diagramation where the number photographs excelled the amount of written texts; such an arrangement of photographs would tell the story. A typographical model such as this made reading easier and the magazine came to reach more than three million readers. As a very complex concept, nature by definition varies from culture to culture, where the landscape always represents the result of man's relationship with his surrounding environment. O Cruzeiro brought to the Brazilian readers images of the geography and costumes of foreign people and their lands, as well as images of practically every region of the country; projecting values and wishes, feeding the nature's imaginary of the readers with printed photographs. A process of national identity redefinition and fast industrialization, the years under study may be characterized by changes in consumerism habits and by a developmentism which could be synthesized in the slogan 50 years in five and in the construction of Brasilia. This work aims at understanding the concepts of nature that O Cruzeiro helped to create, the world visions which were projected through these concepts, the economical and political interests involved, as well as the strategies used for that.

A State of Words: Writing about Arizona, 1912-2012

January 2014 (has links)
abstract: This dissertation explores how the written word and natural and cultural landscapes entwine to create a place, the process by which Arizona's landscapes affected narratives written about the place and how those narratives created representations of Arizona over time. From before Arizona became a state in 1912 to the day its citizens celebrated one hundred years as a state in 2012, words have played a role in making it the place it is. The literature about Arizona and narratives drawn from its landscapes reveal writers' perceptions, what they believe is important and useful, what motivates or attracts them to the place. Those perceptions translated into words organized in various ways create an image of Arizona for readers. I explore written works taken at twenty-five year intervals--1912 and subsequent twenty-five year anniversaries--synthesizing narratives about Arizona and examining how those representations of the place changed (or did not change). To capture one hundred years of published material, I chose sources from several genres including official state publications, newspapers, novels, poetry, autobiography, journals, federal publications, and the Arizona Highways magazine. I chose sources that would have been available to the reading public, publications that demonstrated a wide readership. In examining the words about Arizona that have been readily available to the English-reading public, the importance of the power of the printed word becomes clear. Arizona became the place it is in the twenty-first century, in part, because people with power--in the federal and state governments, boosters, and business leaders--wrote about it in such a way as to influence growth and tourism sometimes at the expense of minority groups and the environment. Minority groups' narratives in their own words were absent from Arizona's written narrative landscape until the second half of the twentieth century when they began publishing their own stories. The narratives about Arizona changed over time, from literature dominated by boosting and promotion to a body of literature with many layers, many voices. Women, Native American, and Hispanic narratives, and environmentalists' and boosters' words created a more complex representation of Arizona in the twenty-first century, and more accurately reflected its cultural landscape, than the Arizona represented in earlier narratives. / Dissertation/Thesis / Ph.D. History 2014
