Eksplorasie van paradokse en die nut daarvan vir die gesinsterapie praktyk

Verster, Barbara C. 06 1900 (has links)
Text in Afrikaans / 'n Terapeutiese sisteem word gevorm, wanneer 'n terapeut hom by 'n gesin aansluit. 'n Terapeut fokus op patrone van interaksie en verhoudinge van die gesin wat terapie benodig. Deur met die gesin te bind, tree die terapeut in interaksie met die ekologie van die gesin. Sekere idees word hierdeur gegenereer aangaande die moontlike intervensies, wat tot die verlangde veranderinge kan lei. In die studie, tree ek as navorser op en as gesinsterapeut gedurende die terapeutiese interaksie, het dit geblyk dat die patrone in die gesin, elemente van paradokse bevat. T een-paradokse is as intervensies geformuleer. / A therapeutic system is formed when the therapist enters a particular family. A therapist focuses on the patterns of interaction and the relationships of a family that requires therapeutic intervention. By joining the family, the therapist finds in the ecology of the family some ideas for the possible interventions that might lead to the desired changes. In this study, I acted as both researcher and family therapist. During the therapeutic interaction it became aparent that the patterns in the family contained elements of paradoxes. Counter-paradoxes were formulated as interventions. The phenomenon of paradoxes and its usefulness in family therapy captured the researcher/therapist's imagination. This study presents some theoretical aspects regarding paradoxes, and a demonstration of the use of the paradox as applied during three sessions in family therapy. I also share my punctuations of the usefulness of the paradox for the family therapy practice with the reader. / Social Work / M.A. (Sosiale Wetenskappe (Geestesgesondheid))

Creative maps for training systemic psychotherapists

Nel, Pieter Willem 08 1900 (has links)
In this study psychotherapy training is described from a new epistemological perspective. This perspective, based upon new science and physics and Batesonian evolution, embodies elements of holism, reciprocity, circularity and a both/and view of the universe. From a new epistemological perspective understandings of psychotherapy training are constructed, not discovered. By precluding the notion of absolute truth, an infinite variety of alternative constructions of training becomes possible. The conceptual map constructed in this study incorporates a process model for the training of systemic psychotherapists. In terms of this model, training should be a context where various orders of learning are encountered by student and trainer. In particular, the trainees must learn how to differentiate from each other and how to separate from the trainer. Three evolutionary stages of training are identified to describe how an emancipatory learning context may be created. It is suggested that training may never be concluded. / Psychology / M.A. (Clinical Psychology)

The mediating effect of art therapy for traumatic bereavement

06 November 2008 (has links)
D.Litt. et Phil. / In this phenomenological study, art therapy is explored and described for its mediating effect on the grieving process of parents who have been traumatically bereaved by the loss of a child. The focus is on the ‘inner world’ of the bereaved parents and their subjective experience of being part of a psychotherapy group that uses artworks, as well as language, to explore and express feelings and to clarify existential meaning systems. Traumatic bereavement can result in detrimental long-term psychological consequences. The therapeutic value of existing grief therapies is currently under debate in the literature. To evaluate art therapy as an alternative therapeutic approach, art therapy sessions were held and a ‘text’, consisting of the participants’ artworks and reflections, established. From this text themes were drawn, which facilitated an in-depth understanding of the participants’ lived experience of traumatic bereavement and elucidated their perceptions of the usefulness of art therapy. Art therapy appears to offer a viable alternative to mainstream, language-based therapies. It provides a context in which creative play can facilitate healing and angry feelings sublimated. It assists the participants to rebuild their fragmented sense of ‘self’ through an exploration of their ‘inner world’ via the symbolic function of the artwork. It facilitates the revisiting of the traumatic event and encourages the reconstruction of new meaning. It promotes adaptive grieving through the expression of emotions and cognitions too painful and/or threatening to be verbalised.
