Application of K12 Digital School Integrating Information in Biology Instruction¡ÐTake¡¨Human Digestive and Circulatory System¡¨ as example

Lee, Heng-Chia 04 July 2010 (has links)
This study aims to discuss the teaching portfolio and learning efficacy gained after integrating K12 digital school information into the biology lessons of junior high school. The research method is to divide students into two groups: two classes of 7th grade junior high students are the experimental group, which receive K12 integrated teaching; and three classes of 7th grade junior high students are the control group, which receive traditional teaching. The experimental course is ¡§human digestion and circulation system,¡¨ consisting of 19 units, lasting for 6 weeks. During the experimental process, the researcher collected diverse types of evaluation information, including observations, peer reviews, student works, learning slips, review questions, and surveys, in order to give research findings greater objectivity and accuracy. Results suggest that, in terms of learning efficacy, the overall learning efficacy of the experimental group is better than that of the control group. Among all, there is a significant difference between students having moderate and low scores. Regarding learning attitudes, there is no significant difference between the experimental group and the control group. However, many students hold positive attitudes towards K12 regarding homework, unit assessment, and learning slips. Regarding teaching applications, upon first use of K12 support teaching, there were difficulties experienced in installing the digital teaching materials. However, as they become more accustomed to the use of K12, they could easily implement the ideals of diversified evaluation. In sum, the K12 digital school is a helpful auxiliary tool for teaching.

The role of teaching-learning media in teaching biology in OBE-classes / T.M.E. Burke

Burke, Thora Maria Elizabeth January 2005 (has links)
A review of literature concerning teaching-learning media and the factors that influence the choice of teaching-learning media was conducted, in order to establish which teaching-learning media teachers are using to present a lesson, especially in OBE. The classification of teaching-learning media by different media specialists was looked into, before it was applied in a Biology lesson. The plant cell and animal cell sketches were used as examples to draw up transparencies, overlay-transparencies and to build models. An empirical investigation was undertaken to investigate which teaching-learning media teachers are using and why they are using certain teaching-learning media. It also investigated the role teaching-learning media plays in presenting a lesson and what can be done to help teachers to use more effective teaching-learning media in teaching Biology as part of Natural Science in the senior phase of OBE. According to the investigation teachers seem to stay with the traditional teaching-learning media, such as the chalkboard and textbook, for they are easily available, user-friendly and cost saving. However, there is a need that more courses should be offered, where teachers can be trained how to use certain teaching-learning media and how to create their own teaching-learning media. / Thesis (M.Ed.)--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2005.

Labarce, Eliane Cerdas. January 2009 (has links)
Abstract: Education is always a concern in our society. Regarding Science education, concern includes the need to promote Science cognitive skills that allow more durable learnings. Our research is part is part of a larger project, which aims to improve the quality of education offered by a Brazilian public high school and consequently a more significant and integral formation of students. During research, we propose and conduct a didactic sequence for implementing the Energy theme in the discipline of Biology in a group of 21 students from 1st year of high school. From that didactic sequence, based on practical and contextualized activities, our goal was to verify which cognitive or thought skills the students developed during the processes of teaching/learning. According to the research results, we can conclude that the practice and contextualized activities contributed to the improvement of cognitive skills of students as well as for developing new languages and formalization of concepts. Using the potential of these activities and the obstacles faced to teach them, teacher must in his search for better conditions for the practical and contextualized work to overcome several obstacles, rangig from the physical organization of a laboratory, the purchase of equipment necessary to perform activities, until the involvement of colleagues from other areas and the struggle for political victories, enabling him to work better. / Orientador: Jehud Bortollozi / Coorientador: Ana Maria de Andrade Caldeira / Banca: Alvaro Lorencini Junior / Banca: Fernando Bastos / Mestre

Evaluating the Impact of a Biology I Professional Development Series

Sampsell, Jacquelyn Scipper 07 May 2005 (has links)
Effective professional development offers opportunities for teachers to reflect on their practices, modify and implement changes in the classroom, and eventually impact students? learning. However, professional development must be evaluated to determine whether the desired results are actually occurring in the classroom. The Program for Research and Evaluation for Public Schools, Inc. (PREPS) created a Biology I Workshop series to assist school districts in Mississippi in aligning curriculum, instruction, and assessment that will ultimately improve student achievement in the classroom and performance on the current high-stakes test. This study evaluated the PREPS Biology I Subject Area workshops by using Thomas Guskey?s evaluation model as a guide for the process. This study used a mixed-method design and collected data from three primary sources: the PREPS Final Evaluation Form completed at the conclusion of workshops, a questionnaire created by the researcher, and interviews with six-case study teacher participants selected from the results of the questionnaire. According to the ratings and comments written on the two instruments and supporting evidence from the case-study teachers, the participants of the Biology I workshop found the workshops to be effective for all five levels of Guskey?s evaluation model. The content was rated effective because the workshop materials were aligned to the curriculum frameworks and were focused on using student learning to improve student achievement. Working through the activities rather than simply being told about them and having a successful classroom biology teacher as a presenter were the factors that contributed to the increase in the participants? knowledge and skills. Organizational results indicate that the workshop was effective in that the goals of the workshop series aligned with the schools? mission and goals for student learning. Several issues, such as financial support, time for collaboration with peers, and reward opportunity for successful teachers, were rated low in school organizational structures. The results also indicate that the PREPS Biology I workshops had a positive impact on student achievement both in the classroom and on the Mississippi Biology I Subject Area Test for the schools that implemented the teaching units and strategies.

Abstract: This investigation studies goal, in a general sense, is the teaching of science and biology in basic education theory. The job started from the mean hypothesis, that it was possible to locate, articulate and based on, from general rules of historical-critical pedagogy and the General Didactics, a joint of methodology, principles for the science and biology teaching, grouped and developed to serve as management and ways for the classes activities in the scholar teaching of these subjects, they are: contextualization, troubles, inter-disciplines, instrument, approach history-sociology of the contents, adjusts, balance among procedure of transmition and the assimilation, dialogues, totality, system, aplication, evaluative focus, environment focus, emphasis in education for health and in methodology of the natural sciences. From the methodology for the investigation, we had a clear articulation of these methodological principles with the other fundamental elements of the practical process: goals, contents, methodology, learning, teaching, condition and means for the teaching. Such as, we stablish, the relations these methodology principles with the general principles of dialect logic and the general principles of Didatics. The general results we are approached was the initial purpose of the theory of the science and the biology for the basis education in the perspective of PHC, joint to the General Didactics theory fundamental on historical and dialect materialism. / Doutor

O professor e as perguntas na construção do discurso em sala de aula / The teacher and the questions in the construction of discourse in classroom

Lorencini Júnior, Álvaro 20 July 2000 (has links)
This study is based upon the construction of a didactic model of questions formulation to meet the educational demands of students during the classes of Sciences and Biology. This didactic model has as its core unit the interactive discourse between the teacher and the students for the attribution of shared meanings, that we call reflexive discourse. We consider that the perspective of a reflexive, investigatory and critical continuing educational enables the teacher to implement the didactic model of questions formulation which will provoke meaningful effects in the cognitive and interactive process in the classroom. By adopting a didactic model of questions formulation, the teachers promote changes in their pedagogical attitude toward the teaching and learning sciences, and give new meaning to the their conceptions of the curriculum and its elements: contents, educational objectives, learning activities and evaluation.

Using conceptual maps as resource for the construction of knowledge in biology focusing on the articulation of micro and macrobiology

Cordeiro, Carina de Souza 05 September 2018 (has links)
The practice of teaching the contents of Biology as a discipline of High School presents many obstacles to learning, among them the non-developing of the student\'s holistic and articulated vision when dealing with the approach of micro and macrobiology. This favors the construction of a fragmented view of a complex and interdependent system. As a way to overcome this difficulty, it is proposed to use the conceptual maps by students of the 1st and 3rd Year of High School in a private school in Pindamonhangaba - SP, aiming to offer a pedagogical practice which with the exploration of conceptual maps, creates conditions for the student to build the biology\'s knowledge, developing a holistic view of the phenomena with their entities and processes. The research was applied in four stages and carried out by the students organized in groups. Initially, activities were developed to familiarize with the tool, using the CmapTools software. Next, the students completed maps previously constructed; inserting concepts and available relations in stagnation, besides constructing a map from text of the didactic material adopted and completed this map from research, which sought, among other things, the development of autonomy in the pursuit of knowledge. Finally, four maps were constructed based on focal questions, elaborated with the purpose of seeking the integrative reconciliation in the construction of students\' knowledge. The results reveal that most of the students were able to integrate the concepts and relations necessary to answer the focal question, allowing the student\'s protagonism, meaningful learning and the collaborative construction of knowledge.
