A critical analysis of the ordained leadership in the Full Gospel Church of South Africa

Jacobs, Nigel January 2020 (has links)
Magister Philosophiae - MPhil / This research stems from a personal internal conflict and concern regarding the impact the local church is making in the community and on its congregational members. Through personal involvement in the Full Gospel Church of South Africa on a local level, the researcher set out find out what can be done to make the church more effective, relevant, and impactful in its function as a church. The way the world operates today compared to twenty years ago is vastly different. Yet, despite the vast changes that have taken place on a global, national, and even local level, the question remains whether the church has experienced similar strides to remain relevant and effective without compromising its values and purpose.

Take the shackles off the pipe organs so they can dance : En studie i tillvägagångssätt för att kunna ackompangera en gospelkör på kyrkorgel

Lilja, Sabina January 2022 (has links)
J S Bach (1685-1750)Trés vitement ur fantasia in G, BWV 572

Mary Mary m fl. Mission and Development in the International Central Gospel Church in Ghana

Tamakloe, Mawuli Kofi January 2020 (has links)
Objective: The study investigated the relationship between mission and development in the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) in Ghana and applied sustainable approaches making impactful contributions reflective of mission and global development concepts. Necessitated by majority of Charismatic churches inability to prosecute sustainable, impactful national mission and development activities that improves people’s lives; except few Churches in four decades after their emergence since 1979, the study asked: What factors facilitated the emergence of Charismatic churches? What mission approach accounted for sustainable, impactful national mission? What accounted for sustainable development activities relative to SDGs, and participants’ human and socio-economic well-being? Population: The International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) was purposefully sampled from Charismatic churches in Ghana for the national character and scope of her mission and human development activities. The Clergy, members and non-members of (ICGC) associated with above mentioned programmes were sampled purposefully for interrogation. Method: The qualitative ‘case study’ research design was employed for in-depth information. Both primary and secondary data were employed. Primary data on “opinions and views” were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews of key respondents, focused group discussants and participatory observation. Inductive data analysis was employed to analyze the data. Findings: Analysis of responses show the existence of relationship between mission and development in the Charismatic church in Ghana and applied sustainable approaches, reflecting mission and development concepts, making impactful national mission and human development contributions. It also established correlation between the mission and socio-economic challenges of the 1970s and 1980s in sub-Saharan Africa and the emergence of Charismatic churches in Ghana. Conclusion: Based on findings, I conclude that “God centered” and “members centered” approaches help ensure sustainable mission with national spread reflective of mission Dei, mission ecclesiae and Henry Venn’s indigenous Church concept. And that human development initiative combined with elimination of anti-sustainable issues, occasion sustainable development, reflective of SDGs Agenda 2030. Application: Findings will enable smaller and stagnant churches adopt above approaches to facilitate sustainable mission and development activities for growth and improvement of followers’ holistic human development and well-being. / Thesis (PhD)--University of Pretoria, 2020. / Science of Religion and Missiology / PhD / Unrestricted

Marturia in the Gospel of John : towards an emerging, missional ecclesiology within a South African Dutch Reformed context

Smit, Guillaume H 08 June 2011 (has links)
In “Marturia and the Gospel of John” the following hypothesis is investigated: Theological investigation of the ìáñôõñéá lexeme in the Gospel of John contributes significantly towards an understanding of an emerging, missional ecclesiology. The study is precipitated by the accelerated pace of change our society is currently experiencing. The technological developments of the past fifty years created a society that is totally dependent on the technology it developed. This dependence led to the developing of a new cultural paradigm in which the church is ill at home. Not only are the ecclesial structures ill-adapted to effectively minister to people who increasingly live in a different cultural milieu, but also the premises upon which itstheology is built, has increasingly come under scrutiny. The question of an emerging, missional ecclesiology is therefore not only a question of developing new ministry praxis. Neither is it a matter of reframing theological theses with new metaphors. A growing realisation exists of the need for theological research from the perspective of this developing new paradigm. Theology needs to turn to Scripture in a quest for such answers and it is proposed that a hermeneutic approach should be taken towards this investigation. This exegetical study is conducted from a New Testament perspective, specifically focusing on the Gospel of John. It is done through a sequential reading of the Gospel with special emphasis on the pericopes that contain the word-group, marturiva. Finally, the insights gathered from this study are systemized into a framework that aims to contribute towards the further development of an emerging, missional ecclesiology. It will be argued that ecclesiology serves as the integration point for reflection and practical missional ministry. As such, the church as object of investigation is the ultimate technological praxis, as the community of believers serves as the show-case of God’s presence in this world, as sacrament of his redemptive mission, and as mediator of the governance in his kingdom. Outline of the study In Chapter One attention is given to the changing cultural paradigm and the implications this holds for ministry as well as for theology. These changes are presented as the study’s research problem. The Gospel of John is also introduced as a case study in the ongoing development of an emerging, missional ecclesiology as foundational cornerstone to a postmodern theological paradigm. In Chapter Two the framework from which the hermeneutical study is undertaken, is established. A bird’s eye view of the Gospel of John is attempted and a preliminary investigation into the marturiva lexeme is also undertaken. Chapter Three investigates the testimony of John the Baptist, as recounted in John’s Gospel from John 1-4. Chapter Four reads the second part of Jesus’ public ministry, starting with John 5 and continuing until John concludes his narrative of this section of Jesus’ mission in John 12. Chapter Five studies John’s account of Jesus’ conversation with his disciples in John 13-17. It also reads John 18-21, which comprises of the Passion narrative and the Epilogue to the Gospel. In Chapter Six the matter at hand will be the development of an emerging, missional ecclesiology as a result of the exegetical study of John’s Gospel. Finally, we conclude the study by exploring some issues that need further investigation. / Thesis (PhD)--University of Pretoria, 2011. / New Testament Studies / unrestricted

Postava apoštola Petra v díle evangelisty Lukáše / The Image of the Apostle Peter in the Work of the Evangelist Luke

Suroviak, Jaroslav January 2016 (has links)
The Image of the Apostle Peter in the Work of the Evangelist Luke. This thesis focuses on examining the character of the leader of the group Twelve in the work of Luke the Evangelist. Introduction outlines the baseline of the entire treatise. The first part of the chapter presents information on the author of two New Testament writings himself, followed by an indication of the circumstances under which the work was shaped. Afterwards the views of experts are presented on the possible sources from which the author composed and edited the final text. This part ends in effort to determine the expected place and time of origin of the whole work. The second part of the first chapter informs on the theology of Luke's writings. This part contains discussion of the authors' intentions and theological accents with regard to the first of the apostles. Due to more complex view there is also mentioned a statistical survey of the character Peter the Apostle in episodes of different New Testament books. The second chapter forms the backbone of the work, and again in two subsections presents information obtained by studying the available literature on all periscopes in Luke's diptych in which the leader of the Apostles emerges as one of the main characters. The first part relates to the stories enrolled in the...

Být jako děti? Exegeze perikopy Mk 10,13-16 / To be as children? Exegesis of Mark 10:13-16

Reichel, František January 2016 (has links)
To Be As A Children? Exegesy Of Mk 10:13-16 The study deals with the exegesis of the pericope of the Gospel of Mark (Mk 10:13-16), generally known under the title The Little Children and Jesus. A part of the work is dedicated to the text of the pericope, not only from the point of view of its Czech translation, but also with consideration of the Greek text through which we strive to understand the original message of the author and its perception by the then recipients as well as the contemporary ones. To grasp the studied text better, it is perceived in the immediate context of the Transjordan passage of the Second Gospel, as well as in the broader context of the entire Gospel of Mark. Mark's text and his compositions are also compared with the parallel texts of synoptic gospels whose authors used Mark's original as a background. Two separate chapters are dedicated to the analysis of two crucial terms of Jesus's statement in the fifteenth verse: children - as the ancient and postmodern interpretations may differ significantly - and the kingdom of God, which is the core of the pericope, as well as the entire Mark's narration of Jesus's earthly preaching. The purpose of the work is to interpret the story and to understand, in depth, Jesus's statement: "Anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God...

THE JOHANNINE COMMUNITY, THE SYNOPTIC GOSPELS, AND THE TRADITIONS BEHIND JOHN’S RESURRECTION NARRATIVE

Unknown Date (has links)
What sources informed the resurrection narrative of Jesus in the Gospel of John? Some scholars argue that the author of John used the Synoptic Gospels along with oral traditions as sources, but others maintain that John used only independent traditions to write his resurrection story. This paper argues that John did not use the Synoptics for this narrative because the reconstructed history of the Johannine community provides an adequate basis for postulating independent traditions which succeed at explaining both the similarities and differences between John and the Synoptics. While it does not claim to prove that the author was unaware of the Synoptics, it maintains that the evidence for the use of those Gospels in addition to tradition is too weak, whereas independent traditions alone can account for the material. / Includes bibliography. / Thesis (M.A.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2020. / FAU Electronic Theses and Dissertations Collection

Materiality and Materialism of Middle Byzantine Gospel Lectionaries (Eleventh–Twelfth Centuries CE)

Kopta, Joseph, 0000-0001-9579-0313 January 2022 (has links)
Materiality and considerations of color in medieval art have been the subject of a growing number of studies in recent years, but have tended to address architecture, monumental works of art such as mosaics, or metalworking. Scholars working on western medieval manuscripts have shown how much can be done with technical art history in this arena, but to date, the study of manuscript materials and their meanings with respect to the Byzantine world have been lacking. This dissertation resituates the understanding of Middle Byzantine (East Medieval Roman) manuscript production from the eleventh and twelfth centuries CE, employing a cross-disciplinary approach that synthesizes traditional codicological analysis with new technologies that identify precise materials and techniques. In particular, this work explores Middle Byzantine manuscript materiality along two perspectives. First, it investigates modes of manufacture, identifying materials and techniques of Middle Byzantine manuscripts themselves, especially in the Lectionary of Katherine Komnena and the Dumbarton Oaks Lectionary. Secondly, it analyzes the meanings and understandings of those materials along liturgical, monastic, and scientific-intellectual contexts in the manuscripts’ specific use in Middle Byzantine milieus. In each case, the focus is Middle Byzantine, Greek-language Gospel Lectionaries traceable to the Rite of Constantinople. These lavishly illuminated books played important roles in Christian liturgical contexts, and provide an opportunity to explore what Byzantines thought about the natural world. This study revises both the methodological approaches of earlier manuscript scholars and interpretations that assign place of production and meaning of materials as solely iconographic or stylistic problems. Byzantine manuscripts — in part due to twentieth-century historiographic traditions — have rarely been considered in terms of their material production, in contrast to their counterparts in western Medieval Europe, which have been explored with modern technology in exciting new ways in recent decades. As a result, this void in Byzantine studies provides a great opportunity for considering the specific contexts of these objects in their production and significance. As this dissertation attends to the material contexts of Byzantine Gospel Lectionaries, it analyzes the manuscripts in terms of their materials and methods of production, and consider the relationships between materials, Byzantine understandings of matter through the field of alchemy, and the production of knowledge about artmaking in Byzantium. This strategy seeks to account for both the interest in Byzantine intellectual works on the nature of matter and the manner in which knowledge about codex creation was passed on. Although this dissertation follows art historical methodologies and not those of the hard sciences, it incorporates scientific data that identifies precise pigments on manuscript pages into my study. In this work, the materials used by the manuscript makers of the studied objects are identified. This involves performing non-destructive analysis, collaborating with conservators, through close observation and the use of x-ray reflectography, which allows for the non-invasive, in situ study of manuscript materials. / Art History

[pt] ESTES SINAIS ACOMPANHARÃO OS QUE CREEM: O FALAR EM LÍNGUAS EM MARCOS 16,15-18 / [en] THESE SIGNS SHALL FOLLOW THOSE WHO BELIEVE: SPEAKING IN TONGUES IN MARK 16,15-18

RODRIGO FERNANDO DE SOUSA FIGUEIREDO 19 October 2015 (has links)
[en] This research analyzes the speaking in tongues in Mark 16.15 to 18 and the diachronic process of theological evolution of speaking in tongues in the canonical literature, where speaking in tongues: 1. Initially would be a free and community experience of glossolalia ; 2. It was standardized by Paul in 1 Corinthians, but keeping their glossolalia characteristics; 3. theologized in Acts being linked to spread of the Gospel, however, being experienced now by evangelizing (Acts 2 equal xenoglossy), then by evangelized (Acts 10:19 equal glossolalia); 4. To finally be thouth theologically as a sign that accompanies the itinerant missionaries in evangelization (Mark 16.15 to 18). Understand the diachronic of speaking in tongues is important to improve the dialogue between this last theological proposal received by the Church s tradition, and will serve as a reading filter and theological thought of training on speaking in tongues for those who read or hear the synchronic narrative through the allocation of the canonical Gospel of Mark (promise of Jesus), Acts of the Apostles (early Church) and the First Letter of Paul to the Corinthians (ecclesiastical explanation).
