Brahma, Mohamed 13 December 2006 (has links) (PDF)

An Effecient Scheme in IEEE 802.22 WRAN for Real Time and Non Real Time Traffic Delay

R-Smith, Nawfal Al-Zubaidi, Humood, Khaled January 2013 (has links)
Cognitive radio network has emerged as a prevailing technique and an exciting and promising technology which has the potential of dealing with the inflexible prerequisites and the inadequacy of the radio spectrum usage. In cognitive radios, in-band sensing is fundamental for the protection of the licensed spectrum users, enabling secondary users to vacate channels immediately upon detection of primary users. This channel sensing scheme directly affects the quality-of-service of cognitive radio user and licensed user especially with the undesirable delay induced into the system. In this thesis, a combination of different delay reduction schemes from different papers has been introduced, the first paper [47] argues about performing fine sensing for non-real time traffic, while real time traffic continues transmission in the channel. The second paper [46] argues about performing fine sensing after multiple alarms that have been triggered. Both schemes have combined with applying data rate reservation as well in order to reduce as much as possible this crucial factor of delay for IEEE 802.22 wireless regional area network and to improve the channel utilization. Data rate reservation for real time users has been applied in order to reduce the queuing delay for real time services [47]. The average packet delay for the proposed scheme combination has been analyzed, with both numerical and simulation results. The results show that the scheme combination considerably reduces the average packet delay for both real time and non-real time services and hence satisfies the performance of IEEE 802.22 wireless regional networks. Index terms–Channel sensing, Cognitive radio, energy and feature detection, IEEE 802.22, quiet period. / Kungsmarksvagen 71, karlskrona +4520939959

A Synergistic Test Flight: Smart Sensors, EQDR and PCM Backfill

Jones, Charles H., Wigent, Mark, Morgan, Jon, Beech, Russ 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2014 Conference Proceedings / The Fiftieth Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 20-23, 2014 / Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, San Diego, CA / This is the story of three projects, which use three different research funding sources, coming together to demonstrate a small, but complete, instrumentation system that advances several technologies. The Onboard Smart Sensor (OSS) project is a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) project that incorporates IEEE 1451.4 sensors into an existing Common Airborne Instrumentation System (CAIS) based instrumentation system. These sensors are "smart" in that they can self-identify basic information via a Transducer Electronic Data Sheet (TEDS). The Enhanced Query Data Recorder (EQDR) is being developed under the T&E Science & Technology Spectrum Efficient Technology (S&T SET) portfolio. This recorder is based on the integrated Network Enhanced Telemetry (iNET) specifications. One of the objectives of iNET is to be able to query a recorder in real-time and transfer the request across a network telemetry link. The third project provides Pulse Code Modulation (PCM) backfill to compensate for dropouts. One of the envisioned applications enabled by the iNET architecture is the ability to provide PCM displays in the control room that do not have dropouts. This is called PCM Backfill. The basic scenario is that PCM is both transmitted (as it traditionally has been via serial streaming telemetry (SST)) and recorded onboard. When dropouts occur, a request over the telemetry network is made to the recorder (the EQDR in this case) and the dropped portions of the PCM stream are sent over the telemetry network to backfill the ground display. By adding a PCM-to- Ethernet/iNET bridge, the OSS and legacy instrumentation system can provide data to both the standard PCM and to the EQDR. Combined, this mini-system demonstrates a vision of having intelligence and networking ability across the entire instrumentation system – from sensor to display.

Förening av trådlösa mesh-nätverk och PLC-miljö för industriella behov / Composition of wireless mesh networks and PLC for industrial needs

Polya, Alexander, Lindén, Anders January 2015 (has links)
In conjunction with the possibility of inexpensive wireless communication, many products of tomorrow are developed with the support for wireless communication. The technology enables the possibilty of wireless communication to small plattforms at a realistic price. The cheap connectivity allows for great creativity and gives the developers imagination a wide discretion in the development of new products. This thesis aims to evaluate how the serial communication protocol Modbus RTU - RS232, performs and behaves when transported through meshed networks (Atmel lightweight mesh will be used in this thesis). The work was commissioned by M2M Solutions in J¨onk¨oping. The report will answer the following questions1. How does Modbus RTU behaves when transported through a meshed network. 2. How does Modbus RTU preform when transported through Atmel Lightweight Mesh. The authors have chosen to conduct action research to answer established questions. A test system consisting of both hardware and software was designed and created. With this system, several different tests were conducted and the results were observed and subjected to reflection. The different tests varied the distance, the network’s composition and location of the network infrastructure. Through observation of the test system and evaluation of the recorded data conclusions concering Modbus RTU’s performance and behavior during transport in Atmel lightweigh mesh has been drawn. The test system has been designed with the help of clients and previously made research. Modbus behaves nominally during transportation through Atmel lightweight mesh. Before the network is fully established, an inability to transport data has beend observed. The performance is evaluated by the time it takes to send data, the time is greatly affected by the following factors; Network composition and changes in signal strength (that creates changes in transport routes). For each additional node that traffic is transported through an increase of 5-10ms in the responstime was noted. The network’s ability to change the transport route is also expected to increase performance. The wireless communication provides a longer range than during transportation by standard conventional cable.Considering the results, the authors believe that Modbus RTU has the potential for use in transportation through wireless, meshed networks. One possible scenario is when several Modbus RTU masters are beeing used and data needs to be transported over large distances.
