[en] AN ELASTO-PLASTIC MODEL FOR PIPE WHIP / [pt] UM MODELO ELASTO-PLÁSTICO PARA CHICOTEAMENTO DE TUBULAÇÕESJOSE EDUARDO DE ALMEIDA MANESCHY 06 February 2012 (has links)
[en] The dynamic behavior of a cantilever beam simulating a pipe after full rupture at a given cross-section is investigated.
This problem, know as pipe whip, has to be analysed within the frame of plastic deformations. The physical model is represented by a cantilever, subjected to a step- load at the free end, and a support designed to absorb the maximum possible kinect energy of the tube generated by suddenly applied force.
The analysis is performed using the Bernoulli theory for straight beams, assuming for the moment-curvature relation a bi-linear law. The beam is discretized into finite elements and the time integration is done througth a step-by-step integration technique (Newmark). The support is assumed to follow a rigid plastic constitutive relation.
The influence of the gap between the support and the pipe in the dynamic response is investigated, the momento-curvature relations as well.

[en] THREE DIMENSIONAL MODELING OF A SINGLE UNIT SLUG IN A HORIZONTAL PIPELINE WITH THE VOF MODEL / [pt] MODELAGEM TRIDIMENSIONAL DE GOLFADA UNITÁRIA EM TUBULAÇÃO HORIZONTAL COM MODELO VOF (VOLUME OF FLUID)MIJAIL FEBRES SORIA 05 February 2010 (has links)
determinada com o modelo VOF (Volume of Fluid). Os resultados das
simulações foram comparados com dados experimentais disponíveis,
apresentando uma boa concordância. / [en] Pipeline and equipment multiphase flow modeling in oil industry has
become a crucial task due to the constant increasing fossil fuel demand
and latest oil discovers in Brazil. Among all possible flow configurations
that multiphase flow can take, the slug flow regime plays an important role
due to its intermittent characteristics and its strong pressure gradients in
pipelines, where this flow regime can be found. In the present work, a
numerical study of a slug flow is performed, with the finite volume method.
The flow and pressure field are determined, as well as, the Taylor bubble
nose shape and the translational velocity of a three dimensional single
unit slug in a horizontal pipeline. The flow field was considered isothermal
and it was employed a coordinate system coincident with the Taylor
bubble. To model the turbulent flow, the RNG K−E model was selected.
The interface was determined with the Volume of Fluid models (VOF).
The results from the simulations were compared with available
experimental data, presenting good agreement.

[en] STRESS ANALISYS IN PIPES COMPOSED BY MITER BENDS / [pt] ANALISE DE TENSÕES EM TUBULAÇÕES COMPOSTAS POR CURVAS EM GOMOSARTHUR MARTINS BARBOSA BRAGA 06 April 2018 (has links)
[en] The aim of this work is to present and discuss the structural behaviour of piping systems containning mitred bends. A duct that joins a reactor to a catch-all vessel of a phosporic acid production unit was studied under the thermal loads (in-plane) imposed during its operation. The pipe high diameter to thichness ratio makes unsuitable the approach of usual flexibility analysis (beam theory) so the finite element method was applied using shell elements. The finite element model was verified by an experimental analysis and by
comparing results with those obtainned from a theoretical solution proposed by Kitching. The end effects due to flanges and the piping behaviour when different boundary conditions are imposed at its ends were studied. Also the ANSI/ASME standards for flexibility analysis were discussed.
