Exploring a paradigm for New Testament theology in an Asian context

Deininger, Friedrich Wilhelm 30 June 2002 (has links)
The thesis proposes that developing NT theology for the Asian context is important because of the cultural and multi-religious background of the people. The text of the Bible must be the source of theology and must be applied systematically to the Asian context. John the Baptist has been instrumental in preparing the way for Jesus Christ. His theological significance needs to be considered at the beginning of NT theology and also in his contribution to the Asian context. Jesus Christ is the center and unity of NT theology. Consideration has been given to the person of Jesus Christ, his mission, his ministry, and the community of his followers. Jesus Christ has been unique in many ways especially when compared to the life and teaching of Buddha.

Geofyzikální průzkům okolí kostela Stětí sv. Jana Křtitele v Dolních Chabrech / Geophysical Survey in Vinicity of the Church Stětí sv. Jana Křtitele in Dolní Chabry

Buneš, Josef January 2020 (has links)
v Abstract The diploma thesis "Geophysical survey of the surroundings of the Church of the Beheading of St. John the Baptist in Dolní Chabry" describes the realized geophysical measurements at an important archaeological locality and interprets its results. The locality is approached from the historical, geographical and geological point of view. There are described physical properties of rocks, basic principles of geophysical methods used and methodology of field work and data processing. Finally, the measurement results are interpreted. The following methods were used for the research: symmetric resistivity profiling, dipole electromagnetic profiling, electrical resistivity tomography and seismic rafraction. Several anomalies corresponding to already known objects were identified and localized in the locality, another part of captured anomalies corresponds to previously unknown buried archaeological objects. Keywords: archeology, geophysics, archeogeophysics, Dolní Chabry, Church of the Beheading of St. John the Baptist

The messianic forerunner concept in earliest Christianity (Q)

Flowers, Michael January 2017 (has links)
In this thesis I consider the messianic forerunner concept within "Q" (which I take to be a source used by all three of the synoptic authors). I argue that at least five units in Q (3:2-3+7-9+16b-17; 3:21-22; 7:18-20+22-23; 7:24-27; 7:28) envisage John as a messianic forerunner to the Messiah Jesus. The messianic forerunner concept is therefore quite pervasive in Q and cannot be said to have originated with the evangelist Mark, as is sometimes supposed. Q attempts to deal with the historical fact that Jesus had not fulfilled Israel's messianic expectations. It did this by portraying Jesus as a rejected Messiah whose redemptive mission had been thwarted by Israel's unbelief. Jesus will ultimately redeem Israel but this will take place at his second coming and that cannot take place until Israel repents. I consider whether Q's redactor(s) utilised any earlier sources. I find this not to have been the case in Q's Prologue (3:2-3+7-9+16b-17) or in Jesus' Baptism by John (3:21-22). Earlier source material can, however, be detected in 7:18-19+22-23; 7:24-27; and 7:28. I consider whether any of this latter material derives from a rival "Baptist" source and conclude that it does not. The question of whether the messianic forerunner concept had its origins in Judaism prior to Jesus and his new movement can therefore not be established by any of the Q units examined in this thesis. What can be established, however, is that the concept goes back to some of the earliest traditions of Jesus' followers.

[en] JOHN THE BAPTIST, THE GREATEST WOMEN BORN: AN EXEGETICAL ANALYSIS OF MT 11,2-15 / [pt] JOÃO, O BATISTA, O MAIOR ENTRE OS NASCIDOS DE MULHERES: UMA ANÁLISE EXEGÉTICA DE MT 11,2-15

ADALBERTO DO CARMO TELLES 17 April 2020 (has links)
[en] This research deals with the greatest among women born based on the text of Mt 11,2-15. Based on this principle, the research addresses John the Baptist s testimony given by Jesus to the disciples around him. It is quite true that the life of John the Baptist is a riddle to be unraveled, given the little information offered about his life, except for that found in New Testament texts (Gospels and Acts of the Apostles). and in extrabiblical texts. In researching this pericope, we find a parallel in Luke 7,18-28, with its similarities and differences, which we will mention here in our study and approach. In this sense, this work makes an analysis of the base text researched here, using the historical context of Matthew, passing through the Matean community, where the Gospel was developed, and the testimony of Jesus was identified to John the Baptist. In another moment, we will make a status quaestionis on the theme John the Baptist, the greatest among the born of women in Mt 11,2-15 with the necessary contributions of some authors. Finally, we will make an exegesis of the pericope of Mt 11,2-15, following the criteria of the Historical-Critical Method and Biblical Rhetorical Analysis, in order to reach the proper meaning of the text, directing to the understanding of the theme: “John the Baptist, the greatest among women born: An exegetical analysis of Mt 11,2-15.
