Žmogaus sukurtų daiktų pavadinimų etimologinė motyvacija / Derivative motivation of the names of man made things

Podvorska, Alina 05 August 2013 (has links)
Darbo objektas – žmogaus sukurtų daiktų pavadinimai. Darbo tikslas – aptarti kai kurių žmogaus sukurtų daiktų pavadinimų etimologinę motyvaciją, suskirstyti šiuos žodžius etimologiniu leksiniu požiūriu. Darbe stengtasi pateikti daug perskaitytos literatūros, kur tarp įvairių autorių kyla daug diskusijų. Pagrindiniam tikslui įgyvendinti keliami tokie uždaviniai: 1) Apibrėžti etimologijos sąvoką. 2) Išrinkti žodžius (žmogaus sukurtų daiktų pavadinimų), pateiktus Algirdo Sabaliausko „Lietuvių kalbos leksikoje“ ir papildyti juos kituose veikaluose etimologizuotais žodžiais (Wojciech Smoczyński „Słownik etymologiczny języka litewskiego” ir kt.). 3) Sudaryti žodynėlį, remiantis dabartinės lietuvių kalbos žodyno elektronine versija. 4) Suskirstyti žodžius kilmės atžvilgiu. 5) Suskirstyti žodžius grupėmis. 6) Objektyviai aptarti visų žodžių etimologinę motyvaciją, remiantis įvairių kalbininkų subjektyviomis ir objektyviomis nuomonėmis. 7) Diagramose pateikti statistinius duomenis. Išvadose pateikti statistiniai duomenys: Lietuvių kalbos leksikos (be skolintinės) žmogaus sukurtų daiktų pavadinimų pagrindas yra baltų kalboms būdinga leksika, kurios skaičius 32% (41 ž.). Nedaug atsilieka senoji ide. leksika ir tik lietuvių kalbai būdinga leksika po 25% (33/34 ž.). Mažiausias skaičius, bet nemažai yra bendrosios baltų ir slavų leksikos 16% (20 ž.). Bendrai etimologizuoti lietuvių kalbos leksikos (be skolintinės) 128 lietuvių kalboje vartojami žodžiai. Daugiausia skolinių... [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / The subject of the work – „the Names of Man – Made Things“. The aim of the wort is to investigate the motivation of giving derivate names of man-made things, to divide them according to their lexikal derivative meaning. In the work I tried to present the material used fro different sources, as there is a discussion and difference in opinions among a lot of authors. The main tasks of the work are: 1) To describe the meaning of derivation. 2) To choose the words (man-made things) given in „Lietuvių kalbos leksika“ by Algirdas Sabaliauskas and to supplement them with derivative words (Wojciech Smoczyński „Słownik etymologiczny języka litewskiego” etc.). 3) To make a small dictionary taking into consideration E-version of modern Lithuanian dictionary. 4) To dividive the words according their origin. 5) To unite the words in groups. 6) To discuss objectively all the words’ derivative motivation, taking into consideration all the subjective and objective opinions of the speakers. 7) To present statistic’s data in the diagram. In the conclusion the statistic’s data is shown. The basis of the original (not borrowed) Lithuanian names of man-made things is the peculiarity of the Baltic languages, the number of which is 32% (41 w.). Not much is behind the old ide. and only for the Lithuanian language peculiar lexics 25% (34/33 w.). The smallest number but very important one is common Baltic and Slave lexics that makes 16% (20 w.). In general there are 128 derivative (not... [to full text]

Becoming a Man: Contemporary Experiences of Achieving Manhood

Klath, Cory Jason 06 May 2014 (has links)
This novel study explores the catalytic experiences that demarcate the achievement of manhood and the means by which the participants knew this transition had occurred. Its significance is in its unique findings and contribution to a largely unexplored topic in the research literature. Qualitative methodologies, including narrative interviewing and thematic analysis, were used. Ten individuals were interviewed and asked to tell the story of when they became men and how they knew. Thematic findings include experiences that led to gaining attributes associated with self-reliance and changes related to fathers or fatherhood. The participants uniformly reported that the significance was known by virtue of experiencing a distinct ‘felt sense.’ Social validation was also noted as a key feature. Further research is recommended including the exploration of this same issue with specific populations and groups, with the larger goal of enhancing the current understanding of these issues by encouraging further dialog in effort to explore the meanings associated with manhood in the contemporary context. / Graduate / 0519 / 0621 / coryklath@gmail.com

False consensus in romantically involved couples / False consensus in couples

Cleveland, Amanda J. 15 December 2012 (has links)
The aim of this study was to describe false consensus in romantically involved couples. False consensus is the tendency of the perceiver to overestimate the degree to which other people agree with his or her beliefs, opinions and behavioral choices. Previous research has demonstrated false consensus in a variety of situations and circumstances, but prior to this study false consensus had not been measured in couples. This study asked two research questions: (1) Does false consensus occur at the same rate in romantically involved couples that it occurs in non-couples? (2) Does false consensus occur less in romantically involved couples in longer-term relationships? In order to examine these questions this study surveyed 143 couples using modified versions of the Relationship Beliefs Scale (RBS) and the Attitudes Toward Divorce Scale (ATDS). The scale were modified to measure false consensus by adding the question “Do you believe that your partner agrees with your view on this item?” to each item. The results indicated that while false consensus does occur in couples it occurs at a lower rate than in non-couples. This study did not find a relationship between false consensus and length of time in the relationship. Clinical implications are discussed. / Department of Counseling Psychology and Guidance Services

Mannet och egentligheten

Bäck, Gunnar January 2014 (has links)
The essay deals with the understanding of the two key concepts from Sein und Zeit (SZ) mentioned in the headline, including a debate on the issue of das Man in Inquiry: an Interdisciplinary Journal of Philosophy. It is noted that reading SZ involves being simultaneously written by the work in a process of reciprocity; this entails a questioning of alleged possession of this or any work, it having been made accessible to the public by its publication. Das Man, as a concept for inauthenticity, needs a counterpart for authenticity, which in SZ is provided by Eigentlichkeit, Self-ownership.This comes into existence via “being-towards-death”, where the caring being, as a being of possibilities, encounters its ultimate possibility death which is also the end of possibilities. The Inquiry debate, the main contenders of which were Hubert Dreyfus and Frederick Olafson, hinges on the question whether das Man should be understood primarily as “at bottom a deformation of Mitsein” (Olafson) or “the conformity necessary for the institution of collectively intelligible social practices (Dreyfus, in the words of his advocate in the debate, Taylor Carman). Both sides, however, give evidence of misreadings of SZ of a kind that call for an explanation. The proposal is that this could be given in an analysis of such a rhetoric of polemics that transforms SZ into a state of Vorhandenheit when making it an object of investigation by the contenders rather than such a tool for being-changed that is mentioned above. The relation between the two aspects of das Man, as oppressive know-all or as forms of established truth for Dasein, remains unsolved, however. At the end of the essay, das Man is understood primarily as established truth. It is argued that it should be seen as involved in a process of change as its immobility must be challenged by the living/dying, a challenge that is being recuperated into das Man in order to re-establish itself as undisputed truth and thereby changing it. This change involves technical developments, including the threat of these to the living.

Campus Network Design and Man-In-The-Middle Attack

Nazari, Mahmood, Zhou, Kun January 2014 (has links)
Security is at the front line of most networks, and most companies apply an exclusive security policy enclosing many of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) layers, from application layer all the way down to Internet Protocol (IP) security. On the other hand, an area that is often not protected with high level of security is the second layer of OSI model and this can compromise the entire network to a diversity of attacks. This report presents an experimental performance analysis within the real environment. It focuses on understanding and preventing the Man-In-The-Middle (MITM) also known as Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) Poisoning on the Cisco Catalyst 3560 series switches with Cisco IOS Software. The Linux Command Line (CLI) tools and Ettercap tool were used to launch the Layer 2 attacks that you might come up against. Mitigation methods to stop this attack are evaluated and concluded. Finally we will answer if Secure Socket Layer (SSL) is enough to protect the users’ data against MITM in the network.A HP laptop and two DELL PCs were utilized for these tests and acted as the attacker, the Server and the victim. Victim PC runs Windows 7, attacker’s Laptop and server run Linux. Finally, three different case studies were analyzed and compared with each other and different solutions that might help to solve or detect the issue of MITM attack are concluded.

Relationship commitment and accommodation : the role of direct and indirect measures of commitment in relationship maintenance behaviour

Burton, Kimberly, 1976- January 2000 (has links)
Research has demonstrated that self-reported relationship commitment is positively associated with behaviours that help to maintain relationships. One of these, accommodation, refers to an individual's willingness to respond constructively, rather than destructively, to his or her partner's transgressions. Until now, commitment has been measured using mainly self-report methods. This study sought to show that cognitive accessibility of commitment may also be able to predict the relationship maintenance behaviour of accommodation. Participants either encountered the relationship threat of an attractive opposite-sex confederate or encountered no threat. They then complete measures of the accessibility of commitment and accommodation. Results revealed that for women only, the accessibility of commitment was a significant predictor of accommodation in both conditions, independent of self-reported commitment. The implications for understanding relationship maintenance processes and commitment, as well as the study of romantic relationships are discussed.
