Každodennost novináře v letech 1970-1990 / Everyday life of journalists in the years 1970-1990

Čepková, Markéta January 2013 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the everyday life of journalists between years 1970 - 1990. It is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part draws mainly from books on sociology, Statistics Office and publications and journals of "The Journalist" ("Novinář") publishing. There are definitions of the key terms and statistic data on media, culture and life style in the first part. It also depicts Czech society in the time of Normalization, as well as professional and social structure of the population, scholar-ship and the position of a journalist in this era. The practical part is devoted to the interviews with journalists and analyses separate aspects of everyday life. This analysis was made with the usage of the qualitative method and compares particular responses of the journalists with the data from the theoretical part.

Propaganda v československém tisku při olympijských hrách v letech 1980 a 1984 / Propaganda in czechoslovak press during the Olympic games in 1980 and 1984

Hlucháň, Martin January 2013 (has links)
This work offers analysis of propaganda used in Czechoslovak daily journal Rude Pravo, that focused on the topic of the Moscow 1980 and Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Games. Both Games were notably affected by Cold War related boycott. Therefore, theoretical part of this work describes major circumstances of the conflict along with socio-historical and media context of Czechoslovakia in its period of normalization. The emphasis is focused mainly on description of censorship mechanisms. The research part of this work analyses the main theme units, found in Rude Pravo and searches for their connection with available documents of censoring authorities ÚV KSČ, ČÚTI and FÚTI.

Obraz normalizačního Československa ve francouzském tisku / French press and Czechoslovakia under the Normalization

Schindlerová, Klára January 2017 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to map and to present the chosen themes of cultural and political scene of the Czechoslovakia under the normalization, as that they were presented in a given period and in a specific french journal. Among a great number of press published in France beween 1968 and 1989, I've chosen Le Monde as a significant journal. Firstly I expose the main problematics of my subject and I contextualize it in time and space. Then I propose a quantitative analysis, followed by an interpretation considering the cultural and political evolution in both countries. In order to complete the image of Czechoslovakia under the normalization made by media, I also use the press published by Czech and Slovak emigrants living in France. The image made by french television, whose importance grows continuously from 1970s, contibues as well to my problematic. I consider this thesis as a contribution to the Czech-French cultural relations in 1968-1989, a theme that has not been studied enough by historians.

Manipulace s dějinami v historických filmech Otakara Vávry se zaměřením na trilogii Dny zrady, Sokolovo a Osvobození Prahy / Manipulation with history in historical Otakar Vávra's movies focusing on the trilogy Dny zrady, Sokolovo a Osvobození Prahy

Hodura, Pavel January 2017 (has links)
This thesis deals with the manipulation of history in the historical film trilogy Dny zrady, Sokolovo and Osvobození Prahy, directed by Otakar Vávra. This thesis tries to define, on the basis of a comparation of historiographical works of the communist and modern historiography, the amount of historical distortion presented in these films. The normalization regime endeavoured to revise the historical knowledge of the second half of the 60s and to resume the tendencies of the communist regime of the late 40s and 50s and attempted to create a myth of perception of mordern national history, in which the positive influence of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia in the 30s and 40s was emphasized. Moreover, this myth of the perception of history aimed to discredite figures that were unwanted by the regime and to emphasize friendship with the Soviet Union. Films and tv-series were an appropriate tool to form the perception of history among the people.

Statistical inference for varying coefficient models

Chen, Yixin January 1900 (has links)
Doctor of Philosophy / Department of Statistics / Weixin Yao / This dissertation contains two projects that are related to varying coefficient models. The traditional least squares based kernel estimates of the varying coefficient model will lose some efficiency when the error distribution is not normal. In the first project, we propose a novel adaptive estimation method that can adapt to different error distributions and provide an efficient EM algorithm to implement the proposed estimation. The asymptotic properties of the resulting estimator is established. Both simulation studies and real data examples are used to illustrate the finite sample performance of the new estimation procedure. The numerical results show that the gain of the adaptive procedure over the least squares estimation can be quite substantial for non-Gaussian errors. In the second project, we propose a unified inference for sparse and dense longitudinal data in time-varying coefficient models. The time-varying coefficient model is a special case of the varying coefficient model and is very useful in longitudinal/panel data analysis. A mixed-effects time-varying coefficient model is considered to account for the within subject correlation for longitudinal data. We show that when the kernel smoothing method is used to estimate the smooth functions in the time-varying coefficient model for sparse or dense longitudinal data, the asymptotic results of these two situations are essentially different. Therefore, a subjective choice between the sparse and dense cases may lead to wrong conclusions for statistical inference. In order to solve this problem, we establish a unified self-normalized central limit theorem, based on which a unified inference is proposed without deciding whether the data are sparse or dense. The effectiveness of the proposed unified inference is demonstrated through a simulation study and a real data application.

A Notion of Equilibrium in Relational Form Games and Politics

Pâquet, Sylvain 10 December 2018 (has links)
This dissertation consists of a development of the notion of equilibrium in non-cooperative games (introduced by John Nash in his doctoral dissertation submitted in May 1950) from the point of view of games played by complex adaptive systems (such as States) who adapt to an asymmetric distribution of bargaining power. The main ingredient of this dissertation is the notion of the contextually normalized solution, that implies that players routinely repeat strategies that work, and that an asymmetric complex game will be in a stable state so long as the set of normal strategies consists of the stronger players’ most preferred and the weaker players’ least disliked strategies. There is no other generality in rational behaviour; all else is relative to the frame of reference.

Modelamento numérico da técnica de normalização linear para determinação de curvas J-R / Numerical modeling of the linear normalization technique for J-R curves determination

Colafemea, Angelo Antonio 20 August 2001 (has links)
In this research, results from Reese; Schwalbe (1993) linear normalization methodology for deriving J-R curves are compared to those obtained from the traditional unloading elastic compliance technique. Both methodologies were applied to a nuclear grade steel A508-CL3A. Several miniaturized 0.394TC[S] specimens, were tested at typical NPV operating temperatures. Small scale testpieces were heat treated aiming to simulate the embritlemment exhibited by the structural steel when submitted to different levels of neutron exposure, whereas other specimens were tested in the as-received condition. All experimental and analytical procedures employed in this study have been fully computerized, including data acquisition, data refinement and J-R curve plotting, when the guidelines supplied by most recent version of ASTM standard for J-R curves, namely ASTM-E1820, were followed. The assessed variables affecting J-R curves behavior comprised crack propagation increment, number of load-Ioad line displacement data points, and it was also analyzed the agreement of the normalization method when compared to the compliance technique. Research results have shown that linear normalization is a trustworthy and very simple methodology to be applied in a vast range of mechanical behavior as sampled in this study, as long as computer programming is employed.

Análise de dados de expressão gênica: normalização de microarrays e modelagem de redes regulatórias / Gene expression data analysis: microarrays and regulatory networks modelling

Fujita, André 10 August 2007 (has links)
The analyses of DNA microarrays gene expression data are allowing a better comprehension of the dynamics and mechanisms involved in cellular processes at the molecular level. In the cancer field, the improvement of gene expression interpretation is crucial to better understand the molecular basis of the neoplasias and to identify molecular markers to be used in diagnosis and in the design of new anti-tumoral drugs. The main goals of this work were to develop a new method to normalize DNA microarray data and two models to construct gene expression regulatory networks. One method analyses the dynamic connectivity between genes through the cell cycle and the other solves the dimensionality problem in regulatory networks, meaning that the number of experiments is lower than the number of genes. We also developed a toolbox with a user-friendly interface, displaying several established statistical methods implemented to analyze gene expression data as well as the new approaches presented in this work.

Esta organização possibilitou a análise dos saberes que operam nestas equipes e como estas se articulam para posicionar os sujeitos submetidos à educação especial em diferentes es / In this dissertation, my proposal is to analyse the interdisciplinar and multiprofessional staff who acted in the Especial Education context of a Municipal School District situated in “Vale do Rio dos Sinos” from the period of 1983 to 2003, as well as problematize the discourses that operate on these staffs which are composed by specialists from the Education and Health area. This study takes a post-structuralist perspective which approaches the studies of Michel Foucault. The corpus of this research was selected by twenty annual reports made by these staffs and was discussed in a archgenealogical approach. The analytical tools that were used – discourse, correction and normalization – allowed this study to get articulated by considering two analytical fronts: specialized knowledge and correction. This organization permitted the analysis of the knowledge that operate on these stuffs as well as their articulation to establish the subjects submitted to special education in different school places.
