The effect of Perceptions of Organizational Politics on Job Involvement and Job Stress

Pan, Bih-Jiuan 30 December 2003 (has links)
This research relates to the relationship between organic political awareness and work stress and involvement and other issues of employees. It also aims to discuss variables for harmonization of organic politics and results using personality as interfering parameter. This study is mainly conducted on lucrative institutions and businesses in private sector. A total of 948 effective questionnaires were received and the survey was conducted using data for factor analysis, credibility analysis, relevant analysis, regressive analysis and level-based regressive analysis among other approaches. The outcome suggests sound credibility of the quantitative tables, which is available for reference. While organic political awareness does create impacts on work involvement and work stress, we have come to realize that personality does remarkably interfere with the interaction between organic political awareness and work stress and involvement.

Under the theory of Organizational behavior, ¡§leadership behavior¡¨ and ¡§organization culture¡¨ are important aspects of the organization behavior. Broadcasting organizations and news professionals are working under complex social restrains. Gallagher (1994:240) media organization news department consists of new reporters and managers. Managers have the authorities to reward and punish, and various level of access to sensitive knowledge and decision making. And to promote job satisfaction and accomplish the goals of the organization. This study was sampled based on the news professionals of the electronic media organizations in the southern Taiwan region including Chia-Yi, Tainan, Pin-Tung, and southern Kaoushing area. The rapid sampling methods was used based on 155 surveys, 39 of the samples are invalid, therefore 74.8% with 116 valid samples. Utilizing factor analysis, double cycle analysis, t-test, and ANOVA analysis, the study was concluded as following: (1) There is positive relationship among transformational leadership, organization political awareness, role pressure and job satisfaction. (2) Transformational leadership has partial significant effect on organization political awareness and role pressure. No. of bitstreams: 1 Ezio Alves da Silva Junior.pdf: 3558684 bytes, checksum: 085b3c829a79fec09d0f9481e7062aee (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-09-02 / The following degree work conclusion is bound to the Political Psychology Research and Social Movements core (NUPMOS) of the Post-graduate program in Social Psychology of the Pontifícia Universidade Católica of São Paulo (PUC-SP). With the technological revolution and the massification of the internet we have observed the quick insertion of the digital media in the quotidian. The time spent in the social media by users has grown in the last years as well new ways of online political participation. Example of the online participation which has materialized in the streets were the June Journeys, the beginning of a cicle of mobiliziations which are the symptom and expression of a serious political and institutional crisis. The present study proposes to analyze the Twitter messages regarding the vote on PEC 182/07, which is related to political reform, one of the several unfoldings of the June Journeys. The proposal of reform voted on the lower house of Congress occurs in midst of turbulent political manifestations in all national territory. The social media as new public spheres, build new spaces to political participation and awareness. The wish for concrete change is expressed in society through various social mobilizations, but the proposal described in the text of the PEC 182/07, concerns about specific changes of the electoral system and without consultation or public participation. As method it was used the analysis of social networks, the data were analyzed from the categories proposed by Sandoval (2001) in his model of political awareness. The data were collected through the NodeXl, where were captured 439 tweets that focused on political reform. The results show the beginning of a process of awareness about what is a reform, linked to the relation between followed and followers while political identity. We also identified in the speeches of some users groups the perception that the political reform is antidemocratic and imposed from top to the bottom, and in another groups instead there is the perception that the proposed changes have little relevance. This perception of the reform reinforces the framework of a low political efficiency and intervention capacity and constitutes fragmented political identities, but still linked to the followed and follower relationship. The main political opponent identified in the coletive speech of the left-wing groups was the Chamber of Deputies president, Eduardo Cunha / A presente dissertação é vinculada ao núcleo de Pesquisa de Psicologia Política e Movimentos Sociais (NUPMOS) do Programa de Pós-graduados em Psicologia Social da Pontificia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (PUC-SP).

Možnosti veřejné politiky ve zvyšování politické informovanosti dospělých občanů v České republice / Public Policy Options in Increasing Political Sophistication of Adult Citizens in the Czech Republic

Černá, Lucie January 2015 (has links)
This thesis presents the theme of low political awareness of adult citizens in the Czech Republic from the perspective of public policy. Low level of political awareness is conceived as a major reason that voters are not able to vote according to their real interests. The focus is on whether the problem is a topic that public policy should pursue and whether it is possible to find a public policy tools to deal with it. It is mainly based on the three-dimensional model of political sophistication, Evert Vedung's concept of public policy instruments, the concept of the correct voting and ideas of participatory democracy. Despite the fact that the given issue bears the hallmarks of an ideal problem for public policy and we can find some tools that could improve the current situation, there are broader factors that hinder their operations. These include the impact of previous undemocratic regime or the behavior of politicians. Such barriers are closely related to the way of human thinking and can be removed only with difficulty.

People's perceptions of government in terms of the assessment and feasibility of development programmes

Iturralde, Diego 01 August 2002 (has links)
This study is about the perceptions, feelings, attitudes and knowledge of people towards government with regard to service delivery and participation with communities in order to accelerate social development. Government's enthusiasm to get things done often results in development not occurring at all. Entering into balanced partnerships with the private sector and communities needs to be explored a lot deeper. It must be borne in mind that people's attitudes, perceptions and feelings may differ according to the different strata of government. The study was undertaken to ascertain how people feel and thereby assess how effective government has been in the past seven years. This in turn will enable government to focus its efforts in the right direction. The study took into account various theoretical issues regarding the role of the state in developing a nation, the importance of knowledge and the management thereof as well as the changing face of development over the years. The shift in paradigm of the study of development is discussed as a matter of importance with structural adjustment programmes often resulting in slowed development and negative economic growth. Often schools of thought in development try to impose their thinking, but what this paper proposes is that schools of thought are not of importance here but quality of life in terms of social development and empowerment are. The study was conducted by means of three focus groups whereby each focus group had different characteristics. After the focus groups were conducted coding of the information gathered took place so as to facilitate analysis and interpretation. The study found that people are generally happy with the efforts of national government but that the delivery of service by regional and local government does not meet their expectations. It is also clear that the private and NGO sector seem to concentrate on the big urban townships whilst ignoring the plight of rural areas. The road ahead seems to indicate that consultation must take place and be improved with the communities as well as with big business who wish to develop their social responsibility programmes. It is recommended that local government be improved in terms of its effectiveness and responsiveness to its communities. Private sector must also re-assess its role in social development in the communities of its employees. The importance of this is then that government and private sector can work together in partnership in order to accelerate the pace of development. The credibility of government amongst the people as well as the reinforcement of democracy is at stake and the development of impoverished areas by ways of innovative strategies can only benefit all the peoples of our country. / Thesis (MA (Sociology))--University of Pretoria, 2004. / Sociology / unrestricted

No. of bitstreams: 1 Lucia Maria Rangel Azevedo.pdf: 1343425 bytes, checksum: 9f1779fb0a57d9f3e0a9e69f89e82609 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2011-06-08 / As a university professor in private institutions of the Vale do Paraíba we have noticed over the years that graduate students have very limited participation and little interest in political activities. Political participation of university students plays an important role in the development of the concept of citizenship, and the insertion of these students in public life. Therefore, we decided to study this political detachment searching for a better understanding of the behavior of our students. Importantly, the preservation of democratic institutions is directly related to the concept of citizenship developed by its society. We initiated this study by reviewing our graduate courses since its emergence in the 19th century to present days. We then explored the political participation of university students in the second half of the 20th century, during historical events such as the military dictatorship that occurred between 1964 and 1985. Our theoretical basis referred to previous studies on the concept of political awareness, as well as its development and forms of manifestation. In order to reach our objectives, we utilized the concept of political awareness and its forms of manifestation developed by Professor Sandoval. We developed a research tool that was applied to 301 graduate students from private universities located in Vale do Paraíba. All subjects involved in the research were included in the analysis which compared data of five different courses, from three cities. Results were analyzed in order to correlate student behavior with known levels of political awareness. It revealed solidary, ethical students, concerned with others´ well being, but resistant to participate in public and political activities. This behavior pattern was observed in all levels of political awareness. Some differences have been found between courses, but between cities we found many similarities / Como professora universitária em escolas particulares desta região, temos observado ao longo dos anos que a participação dos alunos em atividades políticas é limitada, o desinteresse é grande.

Students’ Exposure to Political News on the Internet and Political Awareness: A Comparison between Germany and Egypt

Ahmed, Mohamed 12 March 2012 (has links) (PDF)
The recent political events in Egypt, Libya, Yemen, and Tunisia (2011) have confirmed the key role of social networks (SNSs), as well as online political news in supporting citizens with their self-determination. Furthermore, “changes in the media landscape present new challenges for scholars interested in the relationship between the media and civil society. Additionally, the explosion of the Internet that started in advanced democracies and has spread through much of the globe provides new and unexplored pathways for communication. Moreover, the inclusion of the Internet in the media environment raises new questions for citizens, politicians, researchers, journalists, and government” (Oates, Owen & Gibson, 2006, p. 1). This study looks at the relationships between young people’s exposure to political news on the Internet and their political awareness. It develops and applies an index for political participation composed of several variables measuring political interest, discussion, knowledge, and participation. The survey among students in both countries was administered in Arabic and German, while the master questionnaire was developed in English. The survey was conducted between April and June 2010 in Egypt at Minia University and in Germany at Technical university of Dresden. The sample size was 1000 (500 in each country) students from several departments representing different academic fields: three departments of Engineering, three departments of Humanities and Social Science, and finally three departments of Natural Science. The study’s main research question was: “What is the impact of students’ exposure to political news on the Internet on their political awareness and civic activities?” The researcher started from the hypothesis that heavy use of political news on the Internet is positively related to political awareness. A further research question aimed at gauging the role of intervening variables such as gender and field of study for the relationship between the use of political news on the Internet and the level of political awareness. Results show that there is a positive relationship between using political online news and political awareness. German students’ political awareness for German students was higher than Egypt student’s political awareness (M=63.02, SD=15.65, comparing to M=45.72, SD= 17.65 for Egyptians).
