[en] COVERAGE PLANNING OF BROADBAND ACCESS NETWORKS OPERATING AT FREQUENCIES ABOVE 20 GHZ / [pt] PLANEJAMENTO DE COBERTURA DE SISTEMAS DE RÁDIO ACESSO EM BANDA LARGA OPERANDO ACIMA DE 20 GHZGUSTAVO PINHEIRO MACHADO 19 February 2004 (has links)
Entretanto,
nível do sinal recebido reduzindo a cobertura e o
desempenho do sistema.
sinal-interferência do sistema. / [en] Broadband wireless access systems in frequencies above 20
GHz can provide a simple and effective solution for high
speed, video, audio and multimedia service providers being
an excellent alternative to cable systems for the last
mile. At these frequencies bands, the broadband radio
access system uses point to multipoint link in the downlink
direction and point to point in the uplink. The
configuration is similar to those of cellular networks.
However, at these high frequencies the links are line-of-
sight and the main problem is rain attenuation, that
seriously affects the received signal level reducing
coverage and system performance. In this work a
computational tool is developed with the purpose of simula-
ting coverage prediction, capacity and system availability
calculations using models for rain attenuation prediction
developed by ITU-R and CETUC. Also considered is the effect
of differential attenuation, what allows a complete
treatment of rain effects in point to multipoint links and
the calculation of the total degradation in the signal to
interference ratio.

[en] RAIN ATTENUATION TIME SERIES SYNTHESIZERS FOR TERRESTRIAL LINKS / [pt] SINTETIZAÇÃO DE SÉRIES TEMPORAIS DE ATENUAÇÃO POR CHUVAS EM ENLACES TERRESTRESFERNANDO JOSE DE ALMEIDA ANDRADE 19 January 2011 (has links)
[en] Rain attenuation is the main cause of unavailability in fixed terrestrial radio systems operating at frequency of above 10 GHz in tropical areas. Propagation impairments are expected to be quite severe in these regions. Due to these adverse propagation conditions, Fade Mitigating Techniques (FMT) are often needed. To design and optimize FMT, the knowledge of the cumulative distribution of rain attenuation and of the dynamic behavior of the propagation channel, as provided by fade durations and fade slope statistics, is required. This need can be fulfilled by the introduction of time series of propagation impairments in system simulation. If real data collected from propagation experiments are not available, typical fading time-series may be generated making use of climatologic characteristics as well as geometrical and radiowave parameters of the link. Three models for long-term rain attenuation time series synthesizers are presented and tested in this work using data measured in five terrestrial radio links operating at 15 GHz. The first one was originally developed for satellite systems in temperate climates whereas the second one is a modified version proposed in this work for terrestrial links in tropical areas. A third model is proposed in this work and is based on a different approach using the Gamma distribution. Time series were synthesized by the three models and stationary and dynamic statistics between synthesized and experimental data were compared. The first two models provide good results in some cases but the third model provides significantly better results for cumulative distributions of attenuation and fade-slope.

[en] A SEMI-EMPIRIC CONSISTENT MODEL FOR RAIN ATTENUATION PREDICTION IN TERRESTRIAL AND SATELLITE RADIO LINKS / [pt] PREVISÃO DA ATENUAÇÃO POR CHUVAS ATRAVÉS DE UMA MODELAGEM SEMI-EMPÍRICA CONSISTENTE PARA ENLACES RÁDIO TERRESTRE E VIA SATÉLITERODRIGO MARTINS DE SOUZA 13 February 2007 (has links)
regiões do Brasil,
realizadas no período de desenvolvimento deste trabalho,
além de medidas de
várias partes do mundo, disponíveis no banco de dados de
propagação da União
Internacional de Telecomunicações (UIT-R). Os modelos
desenvolvidos
região do enlace. Embora existam diversos modelos
reais. / [en] The development of new technologies for broadband wireless
access, using
increasingly higher frequencies, points to the necessity
of more accurate methods
for rain attenuation, that represents the most serious
impairment for radio systems
operating in frequencies above 10 GHz. This work presents
semi-empirical
models for the prediction of rain attenuation in
terrestrial and satellite links. The
models were developed using data obtained in concurrent
measurements of rain
attenuation and point rainfall rate in different regions
of Brazil. Some of these
measurements were performed as part of this work and some
were already
available from previous measurements campaigns. Data
available in the UIT-R
data banks of propagation measurements were also used, in
order to develop
global methods. The models that have been developed allow
the prediction of the
cumulative probability distribution of rain attenuation
from the cumulative
distribution of point rainfall rate in the region of the
link. Although several
methods with these purpose can be found in the technical
literature, the ones
developed in this work present some important features
that are not found, as a
whole, in any of those models: they use the full rainfall
rate distribution over the
entire range of time percentages of interest; the
terrestrial and satellite models are
consistent, that is, the elements used in the terrestrial
prediction model are kept in
the satellite prediction model that involves a mor complex
geometry. Besides that,
the models proposed show an excelent performance in terms
of prediction error,
when compared with measured data.

Clustering and forecasting for rain attenuation time series dataLi, Jing January 2017 (has links)
Clustering is one of unsupervised learning algorithm to group similar objects into the same cluster and the objects in the same cluster are more similar to each other than those in the other clusters. Forecasting is making prediction based on the past data and efficient artificial intelligence models to predict data developing tendency, which can help to make appropriate decisions ahead. The datasets used in this thesis are the signal attenuation time series data from the microwave networks. Microwave networks are communication systems to transmit information between two fixed locations on the earth. They can support increasing capacity demands of mobile networks and play an important role in next generation wireless communication technology. But inherent vulnerability to random fluctuation such as rainfall will cause significant network performance degradation. In this thesis, K-means, Fuzzy c-means and 2-state Hidden Markov Model are used to develop one step and two step rain attenuation data clustering models. The forecasting models are designed based on k-nearest neighbor method and implemented with linear regression to predict the real-time rain attenuation in order to help microwave transport networks mitigate rain impact, make proper decisions ahead of time and improve the general performance.

Wideband Terrestrial Path Loss Measurement Results For Characterization of Pico-cell Radio Links at 38 GHz and 60 GHz Bands of FrequenciesKukshya, Vikas 22 June 2001 (has links)
The advent of Internet based digital services, and bandwidth-intensive business and personal applications has necessitated deployment of broadband network access technologies. Research analysts project that the U.S. market for broadband wireless networking will grow to nearly $2 billion by 2004 and Local Multipoint Distribution Services (LMDS) have enormous potential to emerge as the most reliable and cost-effective solution. However, in order to design and deploy LMDS systems, it is vital for system designers to be able to predict the behavior of mm-waves (28, 38 and 60GHz) during different weather conditions, especially rain. This research attempts to characterize the performance of pico-cell scenario broadband wireless channels by measuring path loss statistics during different weather conditions.
Hardware and software components of a wideband direct-sequence spread spectrum (DSS) channel sounding system, used extensively throughout measurement campaigns, are discussed in detail in this dissertation. The measurement plan comprehensively describes the methodology, logistics, equipment setup, and calibration procedures for propagation measurement campaigns.
Power Delay Profile (PDP) snapshots recorded during measurement campaigns are thoroughly analyzed using the 'Channel Imaging Analysis Suite' and Path Loss as well as Rain Attenuation statistics, calculated from recorded PDP data files, are classified and tabulated on the basis of measurement locations, propagation frequencies and antenna polarizations. Path Loss Exponent values are also calculated and Rain Attenuation statistics are compared with popular rain models. Results from Frequency Diversity measurement campaigns are also presented. / Master of Science

[en] PROPAGATION EFFECTS IN LOW EARTH ORBIT SATTELITE LINKS / [pt] MODELAMENTO DE EFEITOS DE PROPAGAÇÃO EM ENLACES SATÉLITE DE ÓRBITA BAIXAMARTA PUDWELL CHAVES DE ALMEIDA 02 December 2003 (has links)
variante no tempo.
desenvolvido e a simulação. / [en] Rain attenuation is the most important propagation effect
to be taken into account in the performance calculation for
satellite systems operation at frequencies above 10 GHz.
The technological evolution of such systems and the
need for personal communication systems with global
coverage lead to the use of low earth orbit communication
systems, that not only have shorter propagation
delays but also allow the use of lower transmission power
than the traditional geostationary systems. Low earth orbit
(LEO) satellites have altitudes around 1.000 Km and are in
motion relatively to the earth stations. This mobility
requires a new approach to the problem of rain attenuation
prediction, particularly the need for a prediction model
that takes into account the elevation angle variability.
In this work, an improved rain attenuation prediction
method for the geostationary case has been developed as a
starting point for the analysis of the nongeostationary
case. Then, the rain attenuation in the a LEO system has
been simulated using measured data from fixed system
systems and the satellite constellation model. A general
method for slant path rain attenuation prediction
considering variable elevation angles is proposed. The
method uses the histogram of the elevation angles to weight
the distributions obtained for fixed elevation. The method
has been tested with simulations performed for the
Globalstar LEO system and a very good agreement was
obtained.
