The presented thesis deals with the holy foolishness and other expressions of sub- standard behaviour as part of hagiography. It is examined from the point of view of the so-called "singular speech-behaviour tactics" (сингулярные рече-поведенческие тактики) and based on the analysis of texts taken from the most comprehensive corpus of the hagiographic texts written in the Church Slavonic, Dimitry of Rostov's Chetii Minei. The thesis consists of the Introduction, three main chapters, Conclusion and Bibliography. The first chapter focuses on history: it describes relevant works on the Russian hagiographic literature of the 11th-17th centuries concerning the hagiographies of the holy fools, it shows the current state of search in Russia and describes the basic monuments of literature. The second part of this chapter deals with the life and work of a great Russian writer of the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries, Dimitry of Rostov (1651-1709). The second chapter is devoted to the methodological approach used in the thesis, i.e. the singular speech-behaviour tactics as understood by E.M. Vereshchagin and V.G. SOLUTION STRATEGIES FOR NONLINEAR MULTISCALE MULTIPATCH PROBLEMS WITH APPLICATION TO ANALYSIS OF LOCAL SINGULARITIES

<div>Many Engineering structures, including electronic component assemblies, are inherently multi-scale in nature. These structures often experience complex local nonlinear behavior such as plasticity, damage or fracture. These local behaviors eventually lead to the failure at the macro length scale. Connecting the behavior across the length scales to develop an understanding of the failure mechanism is important for developing reliable products.</div><div><br></div><div>To solve multi-scale problems in which the critical region is much smaller than the entire structure, an iterative solution approach based on domain decomposition techniques is proposed. Two independent models are constructed to model the global and local substructures respectively. The unbalanced force at the interface is iteratively reduced to ensure force equilibrium of the overall structure in the final solution. The approach is non-intrusive since only nodal values on the interface are transferred between the global and local models. Solution acceleration using SR1 and BFGS updates is also demonstrated. Equally importantly, the two updates are applied in a non-intrusive manner, meaning that the technique is implemented without needing access to the codes using which the sub-domains are analyzed. Code- and mesh-agnostic solutions for problems with local nonlinear material behavior or local crack growth are demonstrated. Analysis in which the global and local models are solved using two different commercial codes is also demonstrated.</div><div><br></div><div>Engineering analysis using numerical models are helpful in providing insight into the connection between the structure, loading history, behavior and failure. Specifically, Isogeometric analysis (IGA) is advantageous for engineering problems with evolving geometry compared to the traditional finite element method (FEM). IGA carries out analysis by building behavioral approximations isoparametrically on the geometrical model (commonly NURBS) and is thus a promising approach to integrating Computer-Aided Design (CAD) with Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE).</div><div><br></div><div>In enriched isogeometric Analysis (EIGA), the solution is enriched with known behavior on lower dimensional geometrical features such as crack tips or interfaces. In the present research, enriched field approximation techniques are developed for the application of boundary conditions, coupling patches with non-matching discretizations and for modeling singular stresses in the structure.</div><div><br></div><div>The first problem solution discussed is to apply Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions on boundary representation (B-rep) CAD models immersed in an underlying domain of regular grid points. The boundary conditions are applied on the degrees of freedom of the lower dimensional B-rep part directly. The solution approach for the immersed analysis uses signed algebraic level sets constructed from the B-rep surfaces to blend the enriched</div><div>field with the underlying field. The algebraic level sets provide a surrogate for distance, are non-iteratively (or algebraically) computed and allow implicit Boolean compositions.</div><div><br></div><div>The methodology is also applied to couple solution approximations of decomposed patches by smoothly blending incompatible geometries to an arbitrary degree of smoothness. A parametrically described frame or interface is introduced to “stitch” the adjacent patches. A hierarchical blending procedure is then developed to stitch multiple unstructured patches including those with T-junctions or extraordinary vertices.</div><div><br></div><div>Finally, using the EIGA technique, a computational method for analyzing general multimaterial sharp corners that enables accurate estimations of the generalized stress intensity factors is proposed. Explicitly modeled geometries of material junctions, crack tips and deboned interfaces are isogeometrically and hierarchically enriched to construct approximations with the known local behavior. specifically, a vertex enrichment is used to approximate the asymptotic field near the re-entrant corner or crack tip, Heaviside function is used to approximate the discontinuous crack face and the parametric smooth stitching technique is used to approximate the behavior across material interface. The developed method allows direct extraction of generalized stress intensity factors without needing a posteriori evaluation of path independent integrals for decisions on crack propagation. The numerical implementation is validated through analysis of a bi-material corner, interface crack and growth of an inclined crack in a homogeneous solid. The developed procedure demonstrates rapid convergence to the solution stress intensity factors with relatively fewer degrees of freedom, even with uniformly coarse discretizations.</div>

Optimal Design of a Planar 3-RPR Haptic Interface Based on Manipulability

A haptic interface is a robotic force feedback device that provides a sense of touch to users of virtual reality simulations. This thesis presents a general method for the design optimization of parallel planar haptic devices based on maximizing the manipulability of the interface over its workspace. Manipulability is selected as the key design objective to ensure avoidance of singular configurations within the workspace and to maximize the interface's ability to generate feedback forces and torques in each direction in each handle location and orientation. The optimization approach developed in this thesis results in a set of candidate designs that are found by stepping the design parameters through the range of possible values, and testing the manipulability and other measures (including workspace area and space) at each location and orientation of the interface handle. To find the optimal design, a multi-objective approach is taken to generate a set of Pareto optimal designs. A smart Pareto filter is employed to yield a smaller set of designs representative of the full Pareto frontier. The most desirable design is chosen from this reduced set. The result is a general optimization method applicable to parallel haptic interfaces. The method is demonstrated on the design of a 3-RPR parallel planar interface.

A Capabilities Approach to Late Modernity : Flexibility, Singularity, and Human Flourishing in the Labor Market

In my paper, I argue that the underlying social ideals of the late modern labor market, namely flexibility and singularity, undermine human flourishing as conceptualized by Martha C. Nussbaum. It is on these grounds, that we should be critical of late modernity. For an account of late modernity, I rely on the sociological works of Ulrich Beck (1992), Zygmunt Bauman (2000; 2007a), and Andreas Reckwitz (Reckwitz &amp; Pakis, 2020). My account of this socio-historical era focusses on the three main components that set it apart from the previous industrial modernity according to the aforementioned sociologists: the revolution in ICT, the creative economy, and the socio-cultural revolution within the new middle class. It becomes clear that these three components contribute to a more liquid, flexible, and singularized setting. On this basis, then, I will introduce the ethical theory of Martha C. Nussbaum: The Capabilities Approach. I will justify the methodological choice of using her theory, and not that the Capabilities approach of Amartya Sen. My focus on human flourishing will be defended against the accusation of being universalist or biased, and the suggestion that preference utilitarianism would be a better fit for my research objective.  The main body of my paper is the ethical analysis and weighing of arguments for and against my thesis, that we ought to object to the social ideals promoted by the late modern labor market because they undermine human flourishing. I will give two main arguments in support of this thesis, each corresponding to one of Nussbaum's central Capabilities. The first one identifies a conflict between the requirements for our emotional Capability and the kind of self-sufficiency needed to achieve the social ideal of flexibility. I show, that flexibility has become a necessary coping strategy for the late modern individual, making the conflict a pressing one to solve. My second argument draws out a lack of respect and dignity granted to those who perform functional labor (mostly in the service sector) in late modernity, because the functional worker can not live up to the social ideal of singularity. The lack of respect for functional workers pushes them below the threshold required for human flourishing. Finally, I will consider the counterargument, that the late modern labor market provides better opportunities for creative expression and self-actualization. Is that not the epitome of human flourishing i.e. the actualization of one's potentialities? However, I refute this counterargument on multiple grounds: firstly, the goal is not human flourishing, but economic profit. Secondly, it promotes a kind of consumerism, that seems to conflict with emotional needs. Lastly, the workers who are enabled creative expression, are and will remain few.
