Velásquez Huamaní, Pedro Jean Piere January 2015 (has links)
--- Objectives: To determine prozone phenomenon frecuencies by RPR test in individuals with HIV and syphilis co-infection. Also, determine the frequency of HIV/syphilis coinfection in patients treated at Health Strategy for Control of STI and HIV/AIDS (ESNITSS) of the National Hospital Dos de Mayo. Methods: A total of 567 serum samples from HIV positive patients attended at Hospital Nacional Dos de Mayo by ESNITSS program were evaluated. All samples underwent qualitative and quantitative RPR testing up to1:32 dilution in order to assess the presence of prozone phenomenon, all positive samples were confirmed for serological confirmation of syphilis infection using TPHA. Results: There were not prozone phenomenon in all samples assessed. Of 567 samples analyzed, 114 samples were reactive for RPR, from these 108 were positive at TPHA and 6 resulted indeterminate. Syphilis seroprevalence in HIV-positive patients treated by ESNITSS of the Hospital Nacional Dos de Mayo was 20.1 %. Conclusions: We did not found any case of prozone phenomenon in evaluated samples. The seroprevalence of syphilis in HIV positive patients treated at the Hospital Nacional Dos de Mayo by the SNITSS program is significantly high and this could indicate that a high percentage of HIV-positive patients do not take prevention measures during intercourse.

Optimal Design of a Planar 3-RPR Haptic Interface Based on Manipulability

Harris, Wesley Kay 17 March 2010 (has links) (PDF)
A haptic interface is a robotic force feedback device that provides a sense of touch to users of virtual reality simulations. This thesis presents a general method for the design optimization of parallel planar haptic devices based on maximizing the manipulability of the interface over its workspace. Manipulability is selected as the key design objective to ensure avoidance of singular configurations within the workspace and to maximize the interface's ability to generate feedback forces and torques in each direction in each handle location and orientation. The optimization approach developed in this thesis results in a set of candidate designs that are found by stepping the design parameters through the range of possible values, and testing the manipulability and other measures (including workspace area and space) at each location and orientation of the interface handle. To find the optimal design, a multi-objective approach is taken to generate a set of Pareto optimal designs. A smart Pareto filter is employed to yield a smaller set of designs representative of the full Pareto frontier. The most desirable design is chosen from this reduced set. The result is a general optimization method applicable to parallel haptic interfaces. The method is demonstrated on the design of a 3-RPR parallel planar interface.

Agricultural waste and wood waste for pyrolysis and biochar : An assessment for Rwanda / Jordbruks- och träavfall för produktion av biokol : En utvärdering för Rwanda

Eliasson, Jenny, Carlsson, Viktor January 2020 (has links)
A high priority in order to combat climate change is disposal of waste. In low-income countries, a large portion of biomass residues generated in the forestry, agricultural and industrial sectors could be usable, instead of being seen as waste. For instance, it could be converted into biochar, which is proven to have many environmental benefits. In Rwanda, the agricultural sector employs 80% of the population and accounts for 35% of GDP. This sector, together with later refinement of crops and forestry production, cause large amounts of residue that many times is considered as waste. In this report, a literature study was conducted to evaluate possible biochar production from agricultural and wood wastes in Rwanda. Characteristics that determine if a biomass could be suitable for a biochar production were identified as C, H, O, N, S, hemicellulose, cellulose, lignin, ash and moisture content, residue-to-product ratio, and low heating value. These characteristics were assessed for the chosen Rwandan agricultural and wood wastes, by compiling values from published reports. The result shows that there are large volumes of residues that have potential for biochar production instead of being seen as waste in Rwanda. Biochar production from these wastes could enable environmental benefits for Rwanda, although further investigation of each single biomass could be needed in order to see if it is practically, technically and financially possible to do in reality.
