Exposing institutional influences on entrepreneurship among Kuwaiti youth

Almethen, Abdullah K. M. K. January 2015 (has links)
This research focuses on the influence of institutions on entrepreneurship among Kuwaiti youth. It aims to capture the role played by institutions on youth entrepreneurship at the backdrop of a dampening ‘spirit’ for it. This research is currently very important due to various economic and geo-political factors leading to an economic downturn, which has led to the need for entrepreneurial ventures. It reviews and consolidates concepts and factors purported to facilitate and increase entrepreneurship for the benefit of the society and economy of Kuwait. This research uses a social constructionist approach to make sense of how institutions influence Kuwaiti youth in their quest to become entrepreneurs. It exposes institutional endorsement and legitimacy from formal and informal institutions. It shows the use of regulative, normative and cognitive dimensions and influences on entrepreneurial intentions and actions. This research shows how institutions interact with Kuwaiti youth and what role they play in the formulation of intentions and actions concerning entrepreneurship. A number of key formal and informal institutions have come to the fore that influence one another (in)directly as living entities, and likewise influence the youth (in)directly. The research contribution also shows that young people have to approach some key institutions and in return their desire to become entrepreneurs is strengthened or weakened depending on how institutions respond and what role they are willing to play in their lives.

The aim of this research was to investigate the preponderant aspects in the youth's representation in the elaboration of their concept of the future through their high school trajectory. These young students generally come from subaltern social classes and lower middle classes. They try to find in the public high school the credentials to enter in superior and technique courses and, mainly, to obtain the knowledge that permits them to find better jobs. For this, it was analyzed some documents elaborated by MEC, concerning the renovation of the high school system, to comprehend the ideology and interests of high school as well as to know its effects on the young students' development. Interviews were done with school principals, teachers and students' parents. For the analyzed students, besides the interview, it was applied some questionnaires. The students were separated in focal groups what enable the understanding of their conception of the future elaborated through their trajectory in high school. A complex reality was found due to the fact that the curriculum appied in the public high school does not consider the opportunities of curriculum applied in the public high school does not consider the opportunities of knowledge construction and become, therefore, an obstacle to the concretization of the students, future projects. Because of this, the young students prefer working over studying. They share insecurities and worries, and construct non-significant expectations of the future. According to what was observed studying, working and having a family are common projects for the yong students that search for financial independence and personal autonomy. For them, studying despite its obstacles, can be a means of social ascension.

Anderson Pimentel Meneguce 20 June 2009 (has links)
An analysis of the religiosity of the young peoples in IPB. The first part covers the early adulthood, psychosocial aspects, cognitive, moral and their faith, from the theories of development. The second part brings a social research with young people to identify the stages where they are and identify their needs in the context of faith and morals. The third and last part, seeks to offer grants a christian form of religious education for youths from the characteristics of young adulthood and the challenges and anxieties that this stage of life provides for humans. The Christian religious education to young adulthood in the Presbyterian Church of Brazil should be a safe and protected, where young people might question their faith, their morals, their existence and their religious group. The answers to these questions should not sound like truths sacred, immutable, but indicate the way for a meeting with the reflective True and Living God and to embrace a morality of universal principles. Thus, the couple is ready to mature, to exercise a role in search for a fairer society and have the ability to reflect critically on their identity and their ideologies.

Understanding adolescent and young people's sexual health and development in a public health context : research studies and interventions

Downing, Jennifer January 2014 (has links)
Sexual health risk-taking behaviour is typically initiated during adolescence and continues throughout teenage years and early adulthood at higher levels than at other life stages. For some groups (e.g. deprived and vulnerable populations) the risks can be greater still. Risk behaviours in early youth are related to increased rates of risk-taking and the adoption of multiple risk behaviours in early adulthood. Prevention interventions implemented early on are shown to be most effective at preventing or reducing the poor health outcomes associated with risk-behaviours. Policies and prevention interventions are informed by current data showing patterns of risk behaviour, identification of emerging behaviour, factors associated with these behaviours and evidence of intervention prevention effectiveness. This submission presents a linking commentary which summarises and critiques a series of peer reviewed publications, supported by additional publications, all of which were carried out during my employment at Liverpool John Moores University. Studies have identified key factors affecting sexual development and associated behaviour; associations between sexual and other behaviours, such as alcohol behaviours; and the relationship between social and well-being factors and sexual behaviours in adolescents and young people. Studies also evaluate public health initiatives and review public health evidence of intervention effectiveness. These studies have contributed to understanding sexual development and its impact on behaviours during the life course; have highlighted the health service and education needs of young people; and have identified effective interventions and intervention components to inform national guidance, public health policy and intervention development.
