E depois da escola? Desafios de jovens egressos do ensino médio público na cidade de São Paulo / And after school? Challenges of young egress of public high school in the city of São Paulo

Santos, Raquel Souza dos 14 December 2018 (has links)
This work aims to identify, describe and analyze the challenges faced by young students egress from public high schools and that belongs to families of the popular classes. Based on the studies of the Sociology of Youth and on the analysis of individuation processes in contemporary society, more precisely, in the approach of Franco-Peruvian sociologist Danilo Martuccelli, it seeks to contribute to the production of knowledge about the condition of the youth and to the situation of the young people from urban areas. Based on the testimony of 40 individuals between the ages of 18 and 24, graduates of public high school in the city of São Paulo, this paper defends the thesis that these young people face structurally manufactured challenges and that these challenges are faced by unequal resources and supports. In this sense, it focuses the search of young people for new educational credentials, as well as their attempts at insertion and occupational mobility and the search for a relative autonomy and independence of their parents and families, such processes would be important dimensions for the understanding of the relative heterogeneity of young people and their itineraries, even though they are situated in the same social position.

It wanted to understand which ways a high school youth group from public education network of Porangatu establish virtual social networks. It comes from Karl Marx, Pierre Bourdieu, Raymond Williams, Clifford Geertz, Juarez Dayrell, José Machado Pais, Gilberto Velho conceptions, among others to delimit the scope of social, cultural and the young cultures relations processes. While for the study social networks it resorts to authors like Pierre Lévy, Manuel Castells and Raquel da Cunha Recuero. It aims to highlight the formation of young sociability processes from virtual social networks with emphasis on social-historical approaches of cultures and young cultures in order to establish a list of ways of being young people and their cultures in the contemporary world. To understand the social and cultural dimension, with the field of sociability relationships built from the virtual world, it chose the qualitative research that it had caracteristic that correspond to the need of this research. The final considerations show that sociability relations are multiple, occurring either in person or virtually. But even that sociability is currently enhanced by virtual meetings it was found that the physical presence, the face-to-face has not lost its importance in the process of social relationships of young people. It also demonstrates that the youth group establish a sense of belonging of being together that allow them to be real groups in virtual social networks. It contacted although cyberspace is in another place of meeting, sharing groups, the front communities the experiences made in both physical and virtual spaces.

Dahlgren, Hanna, Dahlgren, Ida January 2016 (has links)
Nyckelord: cannabis, socialarbetare, social kontruktionism, socialtjänst, ungdomar / The aim of this study was to obtain a deeper understanding of young people's use of cannabis. To do that is this study made out of a qualitative interview method where we have interviewed four social workers and one policeman. All informants have experience of working with young people who used cannabis. To analyse the findings raised during the interviews, we have chosen to use the theoretical perspectives of social constructionism and the development of psychopathology. Furthermore, we have in the study used the risk and protective factors to analyse the factors that can influence a young person use of cannabis. The result indicates that the factors behind the use of cannabis are mental illness, neuropsychiatric diagnosis as ADHD or ADD and a problematic home. This result further discussion of risk factors such as a lack of schooling and whether sex has any significance or difference among those who use cannabis as an intoxicant. One of the main results that emerge is that mental illness is the most common risk factor for young people who use cannabis, and who is current to the social services. Keywords: cannabis, social constructionism, social service, social worker, young people

Civic experiences and public connection : media and young people in Estonia

Kaun, Anne January 2012 (has links)
How do young people in Estonia experience the political, politics and citizenship? How are these civic experiences connected to young peoples’ experiences with the media? Anne Kaun’s thesis Civic Experiences and Public Connection presents a theoretical and empirical investigation of how civic experiences, particularly public connection, emerge in the context of contemporary Estonia. Employing open-ended online diaries and in-depth interviews, she aims to develop an in-depth understanding of how young people experience democracy today, and how they express themselves as citizens; expression not only through the physical performance of citizenship, but also through orientation, interest in, and reflection about issues that are of common concern or should be seen as such. The empirical investigation of public connection as critical media connection, playful public connection and historical public connection, is based on narrative analysis and embedded in a theoretical exploration of key concepts in the context of civic culture studies, namely the political, politics and citizenship. Combining Chantal Mouffe’s conflict theory with Paul Ricoeur’s narrative identity, Kaun aims to shed light on contemporary democracy from the citizens’ perspective. The author proposes a holistic approach to both civic experiences and the role that media might play in relation to them. Following a non-media- centric approach, she shows that media, despite their ubiquity, are an important but not exclusive source of the civic experiences of young adults in Estonia.

Evelina, Malmin January 2016 (has links)
Background: Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease which is treated with insulin, good eating habits and physical activity. The disease is more common in children and young people who describe difficulties to balance their self-care with their everyday life. Aim: To elucidate teenagers and young people's experiences of living with type 1 diabetes. Method: A literature study was performed.  Eight qualitative articles was included in the results and was analyzed according to Friberg’s method for literature review. Results: Five categories were created during the analysis: The relationships to the surrounding, support and lack of support from the surroundings, lost autonomy, emotional and physical reactions and management and adjustment. Conclusions: Living with type 1 diabetes can be tough for teenagers and young people in many ways. They describe difficulties associated with being dependent of parents and adults as well as insecurity in the management of the disease which might worsen the situation. To involve teenagers and young people in self-care activities at an earlier age might help them to feel more confident and become more independent in the management of the disease.

Embodying policy? : young people, health education and obesity discourse

De Pian, Laura January 2013 (has links)
This thesis stems from a large, international research project funded in the UK by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) (RES-000-22-2003) and led by Dr. Emma Rich and Professor John Evans at Loughborough University between 2007 and 2009. The study investigated how new health imperatives and associated curriculum initiatives were operationalized within and across eight schools located in a county in the Midlands region of England. The schools were chosen to reflect a variety of socio-cultural settings in the UK, and specifically those that were typical of the Midlands county in which the study took place. The research findings formed part of a three-way international collaboration with parallel studies conducted in Australia (led by Professor Jan Wright) and New Zealand (led by Associate Professor Lisette Burrows) and revealed, among other significant findings, that whilst some young people are deeply troubled by obesity discourse, others are emboldened by it. In pursuit of this key finding, this PhD study departs from the aforementioned project through detailed case study exploration of the emplacement , enactment and embodiment of health policy in three of the eight UK schools from the ESRC-funded study, focusing specifically on the class and cultural mediations of health imperatives in each setting and the various ways these can affect a young person s developing sense of self (particularly the relationships they develop with their own weight/size). Young people are considered to be body subjects (Blackman, 2012) whose embodiments are assembled, performed and enacted in situ. I therefore speak of troubled , insouciant and emboldened bodies as categories which reflect the fundamentally agentic, contingent, relational and fluid nature of young people s embodiment in time, place and space. Hence, whilst highlighting the deleterious and indeed ubiquitous effects of some health education programmes on some young people s relationships with their weight/size, key findings presented in this thesis offer nuance and complexity to the notion of the neoliberal body (Heywood, 2007; Rizvi and Lingard, 2010; Rose, 1999) through exploration of the ways in which contemporary health imperatives also have potential to privilege and empower some young people. The thesis concludes with a discussion of the implications of these findings for policy makers, educators and researchers whose work concerns young people s health and well-being.
