armazenamento, especialmente no caso do biodiesel.
No
entanto, comparando alguns poluentes individualmente, as emissões de benzeno e
etilbenzeno foram maiores para B100 e B100 adt. O B5 apresentou o maior perfil
A menor emissão
de poluentes foi durante a queima do etanol aditivado. / [en]
The emissions of fossil fuels derived from oil have a significant impact on the
environment, climate change, air pollution, and others. Therefore, there is great
interest in alternative energy sources, especially those that can reduce emissions of
air pollutants. The aim of this study was the evaluation of concentration profiles of
criteria pollutants, particulate matter (PM) and CO2 and unregulated pollutants (i.e.,
benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH),
aliphatic hydrocarbons, aldehyde and metals) originated from burning of different
fuels: The evaluated fuels were the binary mixture of fossil diesel with 5 percent biodiesel
(B5), biodiesel soybean (B100), additivated biodiesel soybean (B100 adt) and
additivated ethanol using a stationary diesel engine cycle, operating at the speed of
1800 rpm and 0 percent load. For a larger reliability of results, the method validation for
determination the monoaromatic and aldehydes by gas chromatography flame
ionization detection (GC-FID) and high-performance liquid chromatography
(HPLC), respectively. PM mass was determinate by gravimetry, PAH associated to
the PM were determined by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry
(GC-MS), aliphatic hydrocarbons were determined by GC-FID, and metals were
determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The
concentration profiles were evaluated considering: 1) burning time (15, 30, and 60
minutes) and; 2) storage time (7, 14, and 21 days) at 40 Celsius Degrees to evaluate the oxidative
processes that occur during storage, especially for biodiesel. When it is still cold
(i.e., 15 minutes), the operation of the engine showed negative effect on particulate
matter (PM), benzene, and ethylbenzene emissions for B100 compared to B5. In
this study, the concentration profiles of the monoaromatic, aliphatic hydrocarbons,
and PAH showed similar results to those reported in the literature, where B5 fuel
emits more pollutants than pure biodiesel. However, comparing some pollutants
individually, the benzene and ethylbenzene emissions were higher for B100 and
B100 adt. For long engine operation periods, B5 showed the highest concentration
profile for the PAH sum in the gaseous in comparison to PAH sum in the particulate
phase. The storage time reduced the PM emissions in 40 percent (B100), 20 percent (B100
adt), and 3 percent (B5). Regarding the concentration of aromatics, the reduction was
circa 60 percent for B100 and B100 adt. The lowest emission of pollutants was observed
for additived ethanol burning.

[en] Faced with the current environmental crisis, developing technologies with
less negative impact and promoting energy efficiency actions are essential to
reconcile productivity and emissions reduction. In this context, the study of internal combustion engines by modeling their operation presents itself as a very
interesting tool, whether by bench tests or modeling. The present work aimed
to develop models using different architectures of Artificial Neural Networks
(ANNs) to obtain performance parameters of Internal Combustion Engines
powered by natural gas and blends of diesel – biodiesel – ethanol. For the
first case, 5 engines were considered to evaluate the thermal efficiency, specific consumption, exhaust temperature, and for the second case, the database
includes an engine, on which, in addition to the mentioned parameters, the
compression and expansion polytropic coefficients were evaluated, the specific
consumption of ethanol, the maximum rate of heat release and the maximum
pressure. For the networks that presented better results, response surfaces were
made in order to analyze the models from the perspective of the phenomenon
they represent. It was possible to obtain models with good representation of
the mentioned parameters (obtaining R2 values above 70 percent for training and
test data), except for the two polytropic coefficients. In this case, although the
errors were relatively satisfactory, the response surfaces reached extremes that
do not agree with the related theory. On the other hand, it was possible to
build a model for thermal efficiency from consumption and throttle, with R2 of
99 percent for training and testing. This is explained by the fact that the first input
variable is part of the equation that calculates this parameter, and the second
is linked to the air-fuel ratio of the mixture.

[pt] A CONTRIBUIÇÃO DO BIODIESEL PARA A REDUÇÃO DAS EMISSÕES DE GASES DO EFEITO ESTUFA (GEE) DA MATRIZ ENERGÉTICA BRASILEIRA E PARA OS OBJETIVOS DE DESENVOLVIMENTO SUSTENTÁVEL (ODS) / [en] THE CONTRIBUTION OF BIODIESEL TO THE REDUCTION OF GREENHOUSE GAS (GHG) EMISSIONS FROM THE BRAZILIAN ENERGY MATRIX AND TO THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDGS)FERNANDO ABRITTA FIGUEIREDO 16 October 2023 (has links)
No aspecto
e renda no campo e o desenvolvimento regional. Desse modo, o PNPB contribui
[en] The dissertation analyzes the National Program for the Production and Use
of Biodiesel (PNPB), created in 2005, which introduced biodiesel into the
Brazilian energy matrix, a renewable and organic fuel that can be produced from
vegetable oils, animal fats and used cooking oil. The PNPB established the
gradual and partial addition of biodiesel to fossil diesel, whose content should
reach 15 percent in 2026. The PNPB was analyzed based on the three pillars of
sustainability, considering the economic, social and environmental aspects. In the
economy, despite the higher costs of biodiesel than diesel, the PNPB has
contributed to reducing diesel imports, improving the trade balance. On the
environmental side, biodiesel contributes to the decarbonization of the transport
sector by partly replacing diesel consumption. It also helps Brazil to meet its Paris
Agreement emission reduction objectives, since biodiesel emits about 70 percent less
GHG than fossil diesel. In terms of social contribution, even though it did not
fulfill its original objective to prioritize family farming in the North and
Northeast, the PNPB instituted tax breaks for biodiesel producers who purchase
raw materials from family farmers through the Social Biofuel Certificate,
fostering social inclusion, the generation of jobs and income in the countryside
and regional development. In this way, the PNPB contributes to the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs), which include environmental, economic and social
goals, which must be met by 2030. The dissertation also analyzes whether there is
relevant land use competition between the production of biodiesel with land
reserved for environmental conservation or used in food production. Finally,
different future scenarios of production and use of biodiesel and biofuels in Brazil
are analyzed, in a context in which electric vehicles tend to be increasingly
widespread, but with lower intensity in the case of heavy vehicles (trucks and
buses) and in developing countries.
