[en] ANALYSIS OF THE COMPETITIVE STRATEGIES OF THE BRAZILIAN COFFEE INDUSTRY, BASED ON PORTER`S TYPOLOGY / [pt] ANÁLISE DAS ESTRATÉGIAS COMPETITIVAS DA INDÚSTRIA BRASILEIRA DO CAFÉ, BASEADA NA TIPOLOGIA DE PORTERDANIELA VIEIRA CANCELLA 22 May 2006 (has links)
indústria brasileira do
mercado e consultas a
enfoque, conforme a
desregulamentação do mercado. / [en] The aim of this work was the study of the Brazilian coffee
industry,
concerning its competitive and strategic positioning
before and after the market
deregulation, and the performances analysis achieved in
the search of a
competitive advantage at the present scenery. Using the
data of the form answered
by a specialist in this market and also consultations of
secondary data, we
obtained a result for the analysis of the strategic
behavior and performance of the
companies, using as a basis Porter`s typology, for the
creation of strategic groups,
using as a sample 22 companies members of ABIC, Associação
Brasileira da
Indústria do Café. The results achieved show that the
companies are still adapting
themselves to the new scenery and looking for a strategic
positioning and suggest
that the companies with better performance are those which
look for competitive
advantage, through the differentiation and costs
reduction. These results show yet
that the companies which look for a focused strategy,
according to Porter`s
typology, were not yet identified in this new scenery of
market deregulation.

[en] ANALYSIS OF THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY BASED ON PORTER S THEORY / [pt] ANÁLISE DA INDÚSTRIA DE CONSTRUÇÃO CIVIL COM BASE NA TEORIA DE PORTERCAROLINA LIFCHITZ PINHEIRO 05 July 2018 (has links)
[en] The main objective of this study is to identify in the construction industry how the strategies of companies during the period from 2011 to 2016 affected their positioning and consequently their performance. It also identifies the main strategic dimensions adopted by firms that reflect how they compete. Finally, the
presence of strategic groups in this industry is evaluated. The database used is composed of 15 companies and contains information about their strategic behavior. Five strategic variables and seven performance variables are considered. The data collected were analyzed using multivariate statistical methods such as factor analysis, cluster analysis and MANOVA. The results obtained through this analysis suggest that the average performance differences of the strategic groups formed can be explained by the differences between the strategic decisions of each company in the sample.

[en] ANALYSIS OF THE INSURANCE INDUSTRY BASED ON THE POTER`S TYPOLOGY / [pt] ANALISE DA INDÚSTRIA DE SEGUROS À LUZ DA TIPOLOGIA DE PORTERMONIQUE ISABELLA RODRIGUES SAMPAIO 13 May 2010 (has links)
variáveis estratégicas e as variáveis do ambiente.
[en] This study aims to quantitatively analyze and classify 49 companies of the
insurance industry into strategic groups based on Porter`s typology (1980) and to
identify the competitive strategies of the groups that presented the best
performance between the years of 2006 until 2008. For this, some concepts about
strategic groups, competitive strategy, Porter s generic typology and performance
evaluation were reviewed in the literature. The data used for this study were
obtained from two secondary sources: the first was given confidentially by Costa
(2006) and contributed with part of the strategic and environmental variables. The
second source was the SUSEP (Superintendence of Private Insurance) website
from which two strategic variables and the performance variables were extracted.
Then, in the consolidated database, statistical tests were applied, such as: z score,
Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk, k-means clusters, MANOVA, ANOVA,
among others. Five strategic groups have been identified and 32.65% of the firms
surveyed were allocated in the group without placement. This has direct relation
to the past of this highly regulated market which consequently presents low
competition.

[pt] ESTRATÉGIA COMO FATOR DETERMINANTE DE DESEMPENHO NA INDÚSTRIA AUTOMOBILÍSTICA BRASILEIRA / [en] STRATEGY AS KEY PERFORMANCE FACTOR IN BRAZILIAN AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRYBRUNO CASTELLO MEMORIA 24 September 2015 (has links)
[en] This study aims to evaluate the possible theoretical relationship between strategic groups of the Brazilian automobile industry and the performance of companies belonging to these strategic groups. To achieve this goal, were analyzed 30 car assemblers companies, identifying strategic groups, using Michael Porter s typology as a base. After the identification of competitive strategies, analysis was conducted on the performance of the groups, observing how the strategic groups present within this industry. Data were statistically analyzed (Z-score, Shapiro-Wilks, factor analysis, K-means clustering, ANOVA and MANOVA), allowing more consistent analyzes of the strategic co-alignment of industry companies concerned. As a result, five strategic groups were found, with significant differences between their average performances for some dependent variables, highlighting the Consumer Satisfaction variable. This difference between the average performances of strategic groups indicates the importance of studying the competitive strategies of the particular industry companies, suggesting a possible theoretical relationship between strategy and performance.

[en] MANAGING STRATEGIC GROUPS: AFRAMEWORK FOR THE ANALYSIS OF THE STRATEGIC IMPLICATIONS OF THEIR RELATIONSHIP NETWORKS / [pt] GERENCIANDO GRUPOS ESTRATÉGICOS: ARCABOUÇO PARA A ANÁLISE DAS IMPLICAÇÕES ESTRATÉGICAS DAS SUAS REDES DE RELACIONAMENTOIRENE RAGUENET TROCCOLI 10 March 2004 (has links)
[pt] No atual ambiente competitivo globalizado, as empresas
maior especificidade facilita o estudo do desempenho
A investigação envolveu
positivista.
provêm acesso a informações relevantes, proporcionam
Quatro
recomendações a futuras pesquisas são destacadas. / [en] In the present globalized competitive environment,
companies are continuoulsy pushed to establish strategic
alliances and strategic relationship networks to complement
their resources. The research studied how the strategic
implications of alliances and other strategic
relationships, in the case of companies in a strategic
group, complement the traditional analysis about the
strategic implications of the organizational and
macroenvironmental factors.The study was sophisticated
through the introduction of the strategic block
concept created by Nohria & Garcia-Pont (1991), that
complements the strategic groups study, and whose deeper
specificity improves the study of the organizational
strategic performance of companies located in groups and
envolved in strategic relationship networks. The
investigation envolved four companies, including a strategic
group that simultaneously is a strategic block, observed in
a specific scope of the Brazilian ready-to-drink
industrialized orange juice subsector up to the end of 2001.
The research was descriptive and exploratory, with a mainly
positivist methodological vision. It is a multiple case
study since it envolves several companies, and it
complemented, through the relational approach, the
traditional approach of opportunities and threats to the
surpassing of the mobility barriers for the inter-group
migration of companies. In order to answer the main
question, first a secondary reasearch was made,
based on bilbiographical and documental research. The
constructs for the analysis of the strategic implications
of networks and blocks for strategic groups were
indicated, and were used in the analysis of strategic
groups through the relational perspective. The relational
implications to the threats faced by the companies of
the focal group in the traditional perspective were
indicated. In the following stage, the primary research was
accomplished, and its results were: 1) it rectified, from
two to three, the number of strategic groups in
the sector analysed in the secondary research; 2) it showed
that strategic alliances and relationship networks give
birth to threats and opportunities to the strategic
performance of the company that are hardly identified
through the traditional approach of the performance
analysis; 3) the alliance networks of a company
located in a strategic group may enable it to surpass the
intergroupal barriers, since they provide the company with
capacities foreign to its core business; 4) in the case of
strategic alliances with key clients - very relevant in the
case of the analysed economic sector - this capacity of
surpassing barriers may be modulated by the way the company
positions itself in the relationship. Four recommendations
for future research are proposed.
