[en] MARAMBAIA: SUBVERSIVE ISLAND: THE MULTIPLE ASPECTS OF THE IDENTITIES CONSTRUCTION PROCESS WITHIN THE BLACK TERRITORY CALLED RUNAWAY SOCIETY REMAINING / [pt] MARAMBAIA: ILHA SUBVERSIVA : MÚLTIPLOS ASPECTOS DO PROCESSO DE FORMAÇÃO DE IDENTIDADES NO TERRITÓRIO NEGRO REMANESCENTE DE QUILOMBO

ESTELA MARTINI WILLEMAN 04 March 2008 (has links)
[en] This work describes and discusses the process of construction of a positive racial identity within a black territory. The object of this study is the Marambaia Reef, located on the Southern coast of Rio de Janeiro State, which is known as Marambaia Island. At this moment, this area is the most important reference of racial resistance in Rio de Janeiro, concerning the concession of land property titles to the heirs of runaway societies remaining territories, as prescribed by Article 68 of the 1988 Federal Constitution. Since the informal donation by a carioca slave trader from the Nineteenth Century of this lands to the families of ex-slaves who used to live there, untill our days, this territory have been under several disputes for its holding, use and property. Controlled by the Brazilian Navy since 1971, and recently recognized as a runaway society remaining area, this reef still shelters the families of the ex-slaves who are the heirs of the initial donation. Those are the ones who presently dispute with many others social agents the right of use and property of this territory based on their racial and cultural heritage. The goal of this work is to understand the process that made possible to deconstruct the previouss negative racial identity of that population to give birth to positive racial identities, individual and collective, for the historical owners of that land. In terms of methods, this work uses a qualitative approach and the documental base is composed by interviews with residents and institutional agents, public documentation about the recognition of the region as a runaway society remaining area and the historical, geographic and anthropological data contained on the official anthropologial report about the region.

[en] UNDER THE SPOILS OF HISTORY: BLACK TRADITIONAL TERRITORIES DURING THE MILITARY DICTATORSHIP IN BRAZIL / [pt] SOB OS DESPOJOS DA HISTÓRIA: TERRITÓRIOS NEGROS TRADICIONAIS EM MEIO À DITADURA MILITAR NO BRASIL

ALINE CALDEIRA LOPES 09 May 2018 (has links)
[en] The research addresses the issue of socio-legal conflicts in traditional black territories located in military areas in Brazil during the 1970s. It regards the analysis and understanding of documents and reports that narrate part of the daily violence in areas that are, at the same time, recognized as remainder communities of quilombos. The thesis aims to understand the processes of domination and resistance during the military dictatorship from the empirical experience of the Island of Marambaia (RJ) in dialogue with documents related to the territory of Rio dos Macacos (BA). In both cases, the beginning of the occupation by the Brazilian Navy starts in the year of 1971. Therefore, this research focus on the perspective of conscructing and re-constructing the loser s history. It is an approach that seeks to read the history against the grain, giving rise to the fragments of documents and memories that will allow re-reading and deepening of understanding about the past. In this sense, the research recommends to consolidate the human rights violations reparation policies to the practices perpetrated in those territories in the midst of Military Dictatorship in Brazil, for which it was sought a dialogue with the conclusions of the Peasant Commission of Truth.

[pt] O BAILE BLACK: O LUGAR, O ESPAÇO, O PONTO DE ENCONTRO, A PASSARELA DA INSURGÊNCIA NO CENTRO DE SÃO PAULO / [en] THE BLACK BALL: THE PLACE, THE SPACE, THE MEETING POINT, THE CATWALK OF INSURGENCY IN DOWNTOWN SÃO PAULO

CLOVIS NASCIMENTO JUNIOR 30 November 2023 (has links)
[en] This research project investigates how the black population living in the municipality of São Paulo, SP, mobilized around the so-called Bailes Blacks. Especially in its periphery-center relationship, this social conjuncture produced strategies for survival in a territory demarcated by attempts at erasure, racial segregation and displacement within this urban fabric. These movements — from regions located on the edges of the city to strategic meeting points in the central region — are recognized as generating territorialities in transformation, constituting a field of constant socio-economic, symbolic and, especially, political disputes. Against the backdrop of a dynamic of meeting and socializing of peers, this type of appropriation in the city of São Paulo — especially through dance and music — has allowed for the formation of what is characterized in the work as a type of festive knowledge. The research was conducted using a methodology that analyzed the history of the black population s relationship with dances in Brazil: from the post-abolition period, with clubs; through associations, such as the Black Press and the Brazilian Black Front; and culminating with the Black Dances, which are highlighted in a time frame that began in the late 1950s until the mid-1980s. As research techniques for this dissertation, a literature review was carried out - which considered the in-depth study of articles on the subject.
