J/psi Measurement in Au+Au Collisions at sqrt{s_{NN}} = 39 and 62.4 GeVSen, Abhisek 26 November 2012 (has links)
J/psi production is considered a very important probes for studying the properties of quark-gluon plasma (QGP). At the PHENIX experiment at Brookhaven National Laboratory, a large suppression of J/psi production in Au+Au collisions at 200 GeV center of mass energy as compared to the binary collision scaled p+p collisions was observed. The level of suppression is similar to that observed at other energies at CERN's SPS and LHC experiments. This work addresses the PHENIX J/psi measurements at sqrt{s_{NN}}= 39 and 62 GeV Au+Au collisions. These allow for the energy dependent J/psi suppression measurements in order to disentangle the important contributing factors of J/psi production. J/psi results over a wide range of center of mass energies (39-200 GeV) from PHENIX are discussed, in addition to a comprehensive comparison with other experiments.

A Study of Three Sonatas for Viola da Gamba by J. S. BachTang, Ko-hsin 01 September 2006 (has links)
Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), one of the best known German composers. He has a strong influence on the development of Western Music.
Bach's three Viola da Gamba Sonatas (BWV 1027-1029) were composed during his Koethen period. These works were inspired by Arcangelo Corelli and Antonio Vivaldi, and have influenced the Classical Sonatas.
The purpose of this thesis is to give a thorough presentation on Bach's three Viola da Gamba Sonatas. This essay consists of three chapters. The first chapter includes the introduction to Bach¡¦s life, the background of the three sonatas, and the development of the viola da gamba. The second chapter is the elimentary analysis of these works. The final chapter offers a comprehensive comparison to the different versions of the three Viola da Gamba Sonatas. The purpose of the thesis is to understand Bach¡¦s three viola da gamba sonatas deeply through the above aspects.

Exploring eCommerce Strategies and Business Models for Gold & Jewelry Industry in TaiwanChin-Chang, Lin 09 July 2001 (has links)
As the fast progress of world economy and information technologies, each major business in Taiwan is now thinking hardly to find out a upgrade path to adapt to the outside environment¡¦s changes. The gold and jewelry industry in Taiwan cannot be an exception. Both of traditional jewelry dealers or the newly emerged jewelry associate have all been well developed. If they want to have another breakthrough in business, they should consider of using the power of information technology to recreate a new business model so that the overall industry will be benefit. Thus it is the time for business owners to understand information techniques and internet, and start thinking how to use it to change the way of running his business.
The approach of this study uses the methodology of exploration research. It is done in two paths. The ¡§inside out¡¨ path first collects the real data from business, identifies its current issues and difficulties through strategy analysis, and then finds out possible solutions. The ¡§outside in¡¨ path refers to the successful business strategies and models that are currently using in ecommerce from other businesses, and thinking inwardly to see if any of them can be adopted. Then the results from the two paths of research are compared with pros and cons. Those that are feasible in gold and jewelry industry are classified and ranked.
In the end of this paper, it also suggests two strategies about how to introduce ecommerce to the gold and jewelry industry for reference. Their possible IT strategies and business models are described.

A continuing investigation into the stress field around two parallet-edge cracks in a finite bodyGilman, Justin Patrick 17 February 2005 (has links)
The goal of this research was to extend the investigation into a method to
represent and analyze the stress field around two parallel edge cracks in a finite body.
The Westergaard-Schwarz method combined with the local collocation method was used
to analyze different cases of two parallel edge cracks in a finite body. Using this method
a determination of when two parallel edge cracks could be analyzed as isolated single
edge cracks was determined
Numerical experimentation was conducted using ABAQUS. It was used to obtain
the coordinate and stress information required in the local collocation method. The
numerical models were created by maintaining one crack at a fixed length while varying
the length of the second crack as well as the separation distance of the two cracks. The
results obtained through the local collocation method were compared with the finite
element obtained J-Integrals to verify the accuracy of the results.
The results obtained in the analysis showed that the major factor in determining
when the second cracks stress field has to be considered was the crack separation
distance. It was found that a reduction in the second cracks length did not have a
significant effect on overall stress intensity factors of the fixed crack. A larger change in
the opening mode stress intensity factor can be seen by varying the crack separation
distance. As well as seeing a steady reduction in shear mode stress intensity factors as the
crack separation was increased. The results showed that after a certain crack separation
distance the two cracks could be analyzed separately without introducing significant
error into the stress field calculations.
