Comprendre la guerre, J.F.C. Fuller / Understand the War, J.F.C. Fuller

Entraygues, Olivier 30 March 2012 (has links)
Each part equally divided into 4 chapters. To start with this study it was basically relevant to depict the manthroughout his different aspects. Thus the aim of the first part is to answer the question: Who is genuinely Major-generalJFC Fuller. One can discover what the British Empire framework as JFC Fuller matrix is. The man needs also to beunderstood as 3 different ways such as a British officer, his political ideas and as a prolix writer. The second part focuseson Fuller intellectual matrix. Here the goals are to find the filiations of his thoughts and his early events thatbenchmarked his life. His commitment during the Boer War and his 3 years assignment in India are 2 importantmilestones to be studied. From 1907 with his come back in England , Fuller start to write his first military essay. His firstwriting and the article Tactics of Penetration are his main stuff as Staff College Student in Camberley that are deeplyrelevant to be analysed. The third part underlines what the very true characteristics are of a new school of thought. Facingthe tactical deadlock in years 1915 and 1916, Fuller fixed the following issue: How to recover the operational mobilityback? Newly posted in the Heavy Machine Gun his discovered the tanks. His thought gradually became the core of newIdeas that allows to plan and conduct the tank attack at Cambrai on November 20th, 1917. All his studies carried on asGSO 1 of the Tank Corps lead Fuller to write the visionary Plan 1919. This paper will became the leading document forthe interwar strategical thinking for Germans and Soviets senior officers. Then The Journal of the Royal United ServiceInstitution awarded Fuller thought and wrting through The Gold Military Prize Essay for year 1919. The fourth partdepicts the never-ending ambition to implement carefully a scientific method to study War. Within the scope of his firstbook, Training Soldiers for War, one can discover the links with the French school pre-1914. An historical analysisbound to the senior officers behaviour give the floor to understand what is Generalship. An other leading subject lead tofollow Fuller evolution towards his own definition of the principles of war. Then. The Fondations of the Science of Warhis the very books to understand what is Fuller’s scientific method to analyse War.Finally, the fifth part helps to stressthe influence and relevancy of Fuller writings. British Empire crisis at the beginning of the 20’s strengthened the militaryOld school of thought that hampered the evolution pf the Army through mechanisation. Nevertheless in the USA, inFrance but mainly in Germany and in Soviet Union, Fuller name means the reception of a new way of thinking. This newthought is not opposed to Clausewitz’ one because Fuller writings are the very continuation of the former. At last, Fullerrelevancy is this of a brilliant military theorist that each officer must read. In order to summarize Fuller works and toextend his writings the author has underlined what is Military Darwinism.

O fantástico no contexto sócio-cultural do século XX: José J. Veiga (Brasil) e Mia Couto (Moçambique) / The Fantastic in the socio-cultural the twentieth century: Joseph J. Veiga (Brazil) and Mia Couto (Mozambique)

Rezende, Irene Severina 16 April 2009 (has links)
The development of this work is guided into artwork, politically engaged, belonging to the macrosystem of Literatures in English, namely, a Mozambican: A River called Tempo, a house call Earth, Mia Couto, and another Brazilian, Shadows of Kings Barbuda, from J.J. Veiga. From this comparative between the two contexts, it was an idea of what is the great contemporary, and tried to deepen the socio-cultural study highlighted in the contents of the two works. The theme oppression permitted to study the relationships of power and submission between the characters of the two works. This thematic been present throughout the literary-critical analysis reasons, philosophically, the actions of the characters, often reflected the historical situation experienced by the authors. Semantically varied and controversy, the word oppression is provided in this approach, the possibility of an interpretation of a study of socio-cultural moment in which the works were written, following the philosophical line developed by the German thinker Sigmund Freud, in refers to the interpretation of the double. The research was theoretical served as Todorov, Caillois and Bessière to the approach of gender in this fantastic two works. Because of having to be searched throughout the literature of the two authors, felt the need to quote other works, which helped to establish a dialogue between the narratives and other selected works of the two writers. By studying the narratives of the authors, it was thought it was a necessary insertion in the recent history of two countries whose survey is inserted in the annexes. Why not forget the socio-cultural context of the preparation of the two texts, is that the survey reflects the historical circumstances at the time of their creation, while, however, understand that the literature that goes beyond simple mirror of reality, because the literary work In addition to dialogue with the world around them, and argue with times and places other than the reality. The choice of this theme is also gave the theoretical question of order, hence the choice of the body, submitted for study

\"Constantes de acoplamento a partir das regras de soma da QCD\" / The coupling constants in QCD sum rules

Silva, Rômulo Rodrigues da 29 June 2005 (has links)
Também comparamos os nossos resultados com outros métodos: o modelo de quark méson constituintes e o modelo de quarks relativísticos constituintes / We use the QCD sum rules to obtain the masses of the pentaquarks _+(1540) and _−−(1862), _+ decay width and the coupling constant and the form factor for the J/ DD* vertex. In the study of the pentaquarks, we use two kinds of interpolating fields, containing two highly correlated diquarks. We get the masses in a good agreement with the experimental value, but this sum rule has a large continuuum contribution and the OPE convergence is not so good. We get the decay width compatible with the experimental value, since we subtract the diagrams that represent _+ as a K − n bound state. In the study of J/ DD* vertex, we calculate the form factor and the coupling constant considering three cases: D off-shell, D* off-shell and J/ off-shell. The coupling constant is the same in those three cases, however the form factor depends on the choice of the particle off-shell, where for the J/ off-shell the form factor is much harder than the form factor obtained for the other cases. We also compare our results with other methods: the constituent quark meson model and the relativistic constituent quark model.

Fracture assessment of pipelines using constraint designed test specimens: a 3D extension of the J-Q approach.

Silva, Luiz Augusto de Lima e 31 January 2006 (has links)
This study describes an extensive set of 3-D analyses conducted on conventional fracture specimens, including pin-load and clamped SE(T) specimens, and axially cracked pipes with varying crack configurations. The primary objective is to examine 3-D effects on the correlation of fracture behavior for the analyzed crack configurations using the J-Q methodology. An average measure of constraint over the crack front, as given by an average hydrostatic parameter, denoted Qs, is employed to replace the plain-strain measure of constraint, Q. Alternatively, a local measure of constraint evaluated at the midthickness region of the specimen, denoted Qm, is also utilized. The extensive 3-D numerical analyses presented here provide a representative set of solutions which provide further support for using constraint-designed SE(T) specimens in fracture assessments of pressurized pipes and cylindrical vessels.

Emprego de progesterona injetável de longa ação para pré-sincronização da ovulação em novilhas Nelore / Long-acting injectable progesterone for pre-synchronization of ovulation in Nelore heifers

Lima, Rafaela Sanchez de 15 December 2017 (has links)
No D12, apenas as novilhas tratadas, receberam 150 µg de D-cloprostenol (PGF, I.M.) e 1 mg de benzoato de estradiol (BE, I.M.). / The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of long-acting injectable progesterone (P4) pre-synchronization protocol and the influence of its effects on the pregnancy rate of the timed artificial insemination (TAI) J -Synch adapted protocol. Nelore heifers (n=638; 21.5±3.1 months and 295±23.3 kg) were classified by ultrasonography on D22 and D12 in pubertal (with corpus luteum (CL) on D22 and/or D12) or prepubertal (absence of CL in both evaluations), and received 150 mg of long-acting P4 I.M. on D22 (treatment) or not (control), making a factorial arrangement 2X2. On D12, only heifers treated with P4 received 150 µg of D-cloprostenol (PGF, I.M.) and 1 mg of estradiol benzoate (EB, I.M.). On D0, presence of CL was evaluated and all heifers were synchronized according to the adapted J-Synch protocol: D0: intravaginal release P4 device (1 g) + 2 mg EB and 75 µg PGF; D6: removal of the P4 device + 150 µg PGF. Animals detected in estrus at 48 hours after device removal were inseminated 12 h after or at fixed time on D9, with application of 10,5 µg buserelin acetate I.M. The largest follicular diameter was evaluated by ultrasound and was determined a uterine score (US= 1-6). The pregnancy diagnostic was performed on D39. After 12 days of treatment (D0), lowest proportion of heifers presenting CL was verified in control group, when compared to treated heifers. This difference was more pronounced in the prepubertal (control: 11.4% (23/199) vs. treatment: 63.7% (136/215); P<0,0001), when compared to pubertal (control: 79.5% (92/113) vs. treatament: 91.2% (102/111); P=0,002). The pregnancy rate was 42.2% and tended to be influenced by treatment (P=0.07). Control heifers had lower pregnancy rate, estrus manifestation 48 h after device remotion (P = 0.02) and early ovulation (P = 0.007), when compared to treated heifers (37.3% (119/312) vs. 44.7% (150/326); 15.9% (48/312) vs. 23.3% (52/224); 7.5% (23/258) vs. 15.4% (42/244), respectively). For diameter of the dominant follicle at TAI (D9) there was interaction between pubertal status and treatment (P<0,05), and the two treated groups did not differ (prepubertal: 11.1±0.13 mm vs. pubertal: 11.1±0.17 mm; P=0,99). For control heifers, follicular diameter was smaller for prepubertal (10.9 ± 0.13 mm) than for pubertal (11.5 ± 0.17 mm, P = 0.03). Probability of cyclicity was influenced by follicular diameter on D22 and D12, for treated prepubertal heifers (P <0.05). Use of P4 increased the follicular diameter and US on D12 for prepubertal heifers treated, when compared to controls (P <0.05). Pregnancy rates was greater in heifers that showed estrus 48 h after the device was removed and were inseminated with 60h (60h: 66.1% (85/124); TAI: 34.8% (185/515)), and in heifers with CL on D0 (with CL: 51.5% (181/353); without CL: 30.5% (89/286)). In conclusion, pre-synchronization protocol with long-acting P4 increases the percentage of cyclic heifers and tends to increase the pregnancy rate after J-Synch adapted protocol.

Adequação e impasses de uma narrativa: uma leitura de A hora dos ruminantes, de José J. Veiga / Suitability and impasses of a narrative: a reading of The hours of ruminants, of Joseph J. Veiga

Santos, Nedilson César Rodrigues dos 05 March 2009 (has links)
This work is focused on a careful examination and interpretation of the narrative written by José J. Veiga A hora dos ruminantes. The real aim of this essay is to identify in the plot some traces of the new historical moment coming in the Brazilian West-Center in mid past century. Meanwhile, a certain formal innovation in the arrangement of this local subject is in a changing process. The introduction of this new idea is caused by an unusual interference of an element in the narrative, which path takes into account some realistic features. Here the unusual element is seen not as an ability in dealing with the strange and unreal, but as an allegorical resource based in the benjaminian general conception of the allegory. A brief retrospective analysis is useful to understand a better contextualization of Veigas work A hora dos ruminantes in the whole authors technical evolution.
