Afirmativní akce nebo pozitivní diskriminace? / Affirmative action or positive discrimination?

Buldrová, Andrea January 2008 (has links)
This thesis deals with the idea of affirmative action and its importance in the development of American society. The main goal is to analyze the effects of affirmative action and to evaluate its positive and negative impacts. The thesis has following structure. At first the theory and basic defenitions of affirmative action and other connected terms are explained. The second part is oriented on historical development of the fight against discrimination and for equal rights of minorities and women. Since 60's it focuses directly on affirmative action programs. At the same time the public stance is examined as well as the main influeces that were and are able to change it. That is why this work deals with some concrete Supreme Court cases which played an essential role in changing the focus and popularity of affirmative action. Particular Supreme Court sentences acted in both directions - there are some cases which were judged in favor of institutions practising affirmative policy or of a member of a group which had to face past discrimination. On the other hand, some sentences led to the end of such programs, especially in 80's when many conservative justices were nominated by president Ronald Reagan. The present situation and the future of affirmative action depend fundamentally on the stance of U.S. administration. The new one around president Barack Obama gives hope to affirmative policy and its supporters.

Slaďování rodinného a profesního života žen v ČR / Coordinating home and vocational life of women in Czech Republic

Pítová, Ivana January 2008 (has links)
My diploma thesis analyses the problems encountered by women in their attempt to reconcile the responsibilities of family and work. In order to successfully harmonise these two areas of life women need to receive assistance from their employer. Women are frequently faced with the necessity of making decisions which give precedence to either family or career. It is of interest to chart aspects of the contemporary situation and so subsequently be able to point to the possibilities which can help to solve this pressing problem. Coordinating home and vocational life is a particularly relevant issue, and, if a deeper understanding of this problem can be allied to practicalities, it will facilitate making decisions concerned with career and raising a family that confront many qualified women. This diploma thesis firstly takes a theoretical overview of policies towards coordinating home and vocational life. The next section considers practical help available to address these issues through membership of the European Union. Part of the section concerned with practical matters is the results from processing information from a questionnaire sent to women who have recently returned to the work place after maternity and family leave, and who have experience of the difficulties of balancing domestic and professional responsibilities.

Více žen do politiky: občanské aktivity v ČR / More Women into Politics: Civil Society Activities in the Czech Republic

Dušková, Štěpánka January 2014 (has links)
The master's thesis deals with the role civil society plays in the process of introducing more women into politics. Women are significantly underrepresented in the Czech politics. This situation can be changed by adopting measures to support women in politics. These measures must either be voluntarily adopted by political parties or regulated by law. In order for political parties to recognize the necessity of such measures, they must be pressured by the voters. That is why nongovernmental organizations' activity is needed, as they are able to push interests through and they can inform public as well as cooperate with other subjects in order to achieve their goals. An example of such an organization is the organization Fórum 50 %, whose activities are subject to an analysis in this thesis. The master's thesis is divided into four chapters. The first part of the thesis covers the civil society and interest representation in theory. The second chapter is concerned with the concept of women's political representation, presents statistics of the number of women in Czech politics, identifies the main barriers that prevent women from political participation and introduces the instruments that can help regulate the amount of women in politics. The third chapter depicts female-oriented nongovernmental organizations in the Czech Republic after 1989 and the women's movement development. The last chapter focuses on the analysis of activities of the organization Fórum 50 %.

Shen, Yu-Ting January 2015 (has links)
The main goal of the thesis was to discover the relation between Taiwan economic development and women position with respect to the analysis of trade liberalization in Taiwan (especially after 1990) and its influence on Taiwanese economic status of women and their opportunity to participate in trade. The thesis uses descriptive analysis which is one of the quantitative method as a mean to interpret the selected data to discuss the changing role of women in the economic development of Taiwan. The conclusions from the thesis are as follows. The economic development of Taiwan has placed women at the important position. In just fifty years, Taiwan has experienced rapid economic development, which transformed the industrial structure to the service sector. After becoming officially a member of WTO in 2002, the female labor participation rate has continued to grow year by year up to more than 50% till today and most of the women participate in the service sector. Till 2014, average hourly payment of men has been 15% higher than the one of women, though the women reached higher level of education. The rising women position in the society affects that women not only postpone the age of getting married and having a baby, but also the fertility rate has been reduced to 1.1 in Taiwan.

Problematika spravedlivého odměňování / The issue of fair remuneration

Seidlová, Jitka January 2021 (has links)
The issue of fair remuneration The diploma thesis focuses on the issue of fair remuneration in the Czech Republic, or rather lack thereof. The aim of this paper is to outline and evaluate the legislation of fair remuneration that is currently in effect. It must be said that the current fair remuneration legislation, at the first sight, seems to be sufficient and effective in practice. However, that is not true yet, as one of the remaining issues of fair remuneration is the inequality in the remuneration of women and men, where women are generally paid less than men for the same work. This thesis comprises of five chapters. The first chapter provides an overview and evaluation of the legislation of fair remuneration. The second chapter attempts to define the term "fair remuneration" while also outlining other key terms. In general, fair remuneration is such that is in absolute accordance with the current legislation. However, that does not guarantee that such remuneration would be perceived as fair by the employees themselves. Therefore, each employee should know how he or she is remunerated and what specific criteria affect the amount of his remuneration. It follows that each employer should have a transparent remuneration system in place, which would indicate which criteria play a role in...

Ženy v rekatolizaci českých zemí / Women in the Recatholization of the Czech Lands

Jiřincová, Barbora January 2019 (has links)
The thesis addresses the topic of women in the process of the recatholization of Bohemia and focuses mainly on the first half of the 17th century. The author investigated if and how much the experience of women differed from that of men. More than the legislation and newly created norms the application of these directions enlightens the topic of women. Rich material connected to the activity of the recatholization commission and other authorities devoted to the conversion of Czech population was used. Sources of statistical character were used for evaluation of the results of the process. Because of their extent, regional restriction had to be made - we focused on Boleslavsko. In the focus of the thesis were mainly townswomen and lower nobility. One of the most important findings is the fact that the authorities saw women as important as men in the process. Although specific, seemingly more moderate, means for coercion were used in women's case. This flexibility is typical for the Catholic church's approach to women and we are in concord with other researchers, mostly from abroad. The findings also contribute to our knowledge of the process of the recatholization of the Czech lands. KEY WORDS Recatholization, Catholic reformation, women's history, gender history, early modern ages, counter-reformation.
