Current approaches to trauma treatment regarding traumatized children often prioritize symptom reduction rather than fostering resilience. Overlooking resilience misses a crucial aspect of children's post-traumatic development, as resilience has the ability to equip children with important coping-mechanisms. There is a need for more research on resilience-focused strategies tailored specifically for children under six years, given their unique developmental trajectory compared to adults or teenagers. Therefore, this study aims to explore how social workers employ resilience-building strategies, emphasizing internal resilience factors, the caregiverchild bond, and the home environment. Additionally, it explores the role of play and creative methods in cultivating resilience. Qualitative semi-structured interviewswith social workers at child and adolescent psychiatry (BUP), child protective services and non-profit organizations were employed to collect data. The analysisutlizied a combination of thematic and framework analysis methodologies. The results reveal that while social-workers do employ resilience-building strategies, the emphasis is mostly centered around enhancing the caregiver-child relationship, with other aspects of resilience often being considered being the caregiver’s responsibility. Moreover, play emerges as an important component in building resilience, as it can be used to reframe traumatic experiences and enhance the caregiver-child relationship.
