雖然在全球觀光產業呈現成長的趨勢中，飯店產業看似是主要的受益產業之ㄧ，但飯店業者的生存及成長往往受到許多因素的影響，如潛在競爭者的進入、現有競爭者的削價以及競爭策略、全球環境的變動趨勢間接影響地區觀光產業發展、政府政策法令等眾多不可測因素的影響，而這也大大的增加飯店業者經營的難度。 因此，本研究期望能對飯店產業進行完整的探討後，瞭解飯店產業所面臨的機會以及威脅，並運用策略的本質來為飯店產業發掘成長機會以及競爭優勢的延續以及創造新的優勢的可能性。
