A Creation of Environmental Issues Print Ads with Spokes-Characters--The Case of Disney

Quek, Shao Chin Unknown Date (has links)
There is no denying that human activities have caused environmental issues. However, living an urban life have made people unware of such environmental issues as the garbage mountains/oceans, the hunger from food shortage, and the despair of dry seasons, etc. Therefore they have no sense of crisis about these issues. People heard of those terms but they still bury their heads in the sand. Different from political, religious or social issues, environmental issues are more like serious ethical issues, which allow none to either choose a stance or stay neutral. Those who have depleted the natural resources are responsible to protect the environment. Baudrillard, a French sociologist and a philosopher, said: “we were made aware of”. To the people who care about environment, helping more people understand the severity of environmental issues becomes the most important thing. Therefore, a lot of celebrities who are aware of the importance of environmental protection spare no effort to promote environmental issues, even engaging themselves in the environmental protection industry. They have become influential spokespersons of the environment. However, we’ve rarely seen the cases of fictional characters being used in the environment endorsement. So the idea of combining environmental issues with spokes-characters is born. These Print Ads creations will use Disney’s characters to achieve the effect of spokespersons. The exhibition have shown the creation successfully attracted audience attention, affecting both their attitudes and behaviors to environmental issues. The results have reached the effect of spokespersons and purpose of the creation.

The Narrative Strategies of Environmental Documentaries: A Perspective of Collective Action Frame

Wang, Yu Yan Unknown Date (has links)
“Art is not a mirror, but a hammer,” claimed John Grierson, who exerted pivotal influence on British documentary film movement. It is believed that documentary as one of the art forms is able to construct social issues, and explore further the causes of those problems. This study is going to focus on the possibility of documentary as political action. This study will adopt “collective action frame” as analyzing structure, to analyze how documentaries represent environmental issues, evaluate its effectiveness in related ideas, and mobilize the viewer to take up social actions. Behind the Miracle (2002), Biographies of the Macaques (2004), and How Are You, GongLiao? (2004) are the three environmental documentaries that the author chooses to examine. There are four findings in this study: 1.Environmental justice frames are adopted as master frames 2.Structural elements of environmental issues become the major investigating points 3.Proposals of management policy vary 4.The directors endeavor to call for the resonance and mobilization of the audience

The Political Economy of the Environment Issue-a case study on the practice of the UNFCCC in Taiwan

Liu, Ya-Chuan Unknown Date (has links)
This study explores the political economy behind the environmental policy making process through a case study of Taiwan’s practice of the UNFCCC. First, this study analyzes the reasons and characteristics of environmental problems, as well as the political economy of the formation of international environment awareness. For the case study, the development of international environment law toward global warming is reviewed to clarify international trends in dealing with this problem. Next, the author analyzes two aspects of Taiwan’s environmental policy: domestic environmental policy and international environmental policy in the past fifty years to give background information of Taiwan’s global warming policy. Then, through in-depth interviews, an examination of organization, legislation, and policy aspects of the UNFCCC practice in Taiwan is conducted to understand how the policy implements. The conclusions are as followed: (1) Institution settings for Taiwan’s global warming policies still have some limitations and need to be reviewed. (2) Although some GHG reduction regulations have already been sent to the Legislative Yuan to be reviewed, the government has yet to carry out overwhelming legal evaluation in all aspects to address the climate change issues. (3) Policy lacks superior guidelines laying out the direction for whole country to follow and implement. After all, political and economic factors both play influential roles in the development of environmental policy. Taiwan’s future action regarding global warming still depends on the determination and executive ability of the new ruling party.
