Study on Fault Restoration Strategy of Distribution Systems with Colored Petri Net Model

Tsai, Hung-Ying 12 June 2003 (has links)
With load growth of distribution systems, it becomes very complicated for dispatchers to obtain restoration plan for unfaulted but out-of-service areas. In this thesis, a rule-based expert system with a colored Petri net (CPN) inference model is developed. The CPN models of distribution components such as four-way line switches are proposed to derive the proper switching operation plan for service restoration by applying reasoning in the CPN. After main transformer contingency has been identified and isolated, it is highly possible that the out of service customers can not be restored completely because of the shortage of capacity reserve. The feeders which serve more key customers with higher service priority will have better chance to be selected for restoration. With the system reconfiguration to cover the load change of service zones over a longer period, during the process of switching operation, the maximum load demand of out-of-service area over the restoration time is considered in the CPN. To prevent the over-unbalance tripping of distribution feeders during switching operation process, the maximum tolerable current unbalance between any two phases is also considered in the CPN model. To assure the restoration plan complying with the operation regulation, heuristic rules based on the standard operation procedures of Taipower distribution system are included in the best first search of the CPN. A Taipower distribution system with 67 feeders is selected for computer simulation in this thesis to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology. It is found that the service restoration of distribution systems can be obtained very efficiently by applying the proposed CPN model.

Projecting net incomes for Texas crop producers: an application of probabilistic forecasting

Eggerman, Christopher Ryan 30 October 2006 (has links)
Agricultural policy changes directly affect the economic viability of Texas crop producers because government payments make up a significant portion of their net farm income (NFI). NFI projections benefit producers, agribusinesses and policy makers, but an economic model making these projections for Texas did not previously exist. The objective of this study was to develop a model to project annual NFI for producers of major crops in Texas. The Texas crop model was developed to achieve this objective, estimating state prices, yields and production costs as a function of their national counterparts. Five hundred iterations of national price and yield projections from the Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute (FAPRI), along with FAPRI’s average production cost projections, were used as input to the Texas crop model. The stochastic FAPRI Baseline and residuals for Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) equations relating Texas variables to national variables were used to incorporate the risk left unexplained by OLS equations between Texas and U.S. variables. Deterministic and probabilistic NFI projections for Texas crops were compared under the January 2005 and January 2006 FAPRI Baseline projections. With production costs increasing considerably and prices rising moderately in the January 2006 Baseline, deterministic projections of 2006-2014 Texas NFI decreased by an average of 26 percent for corn, 3 percent for cotton, 15 percent for peanuts, and 12 percent for rice, and were negative for sorghum and wheat. Probability distributions of projected NFI fell for all program crops, especially sorghum and wheat. Higher hay price projections caused deterministic projections of NFI for hay to rise roughly 13 percent, and increased the probability distributions of projected hay NFI. Deterministic and probabilistic projections of total NFI decreased for each year, especially for 2006-2008 when fuel price projections were the highest. The Texas crop model can be used to simulate NFI for Texas crop producers under alternative FAPRI baselines. The model shows the impact of baseline changes on probability distributions of NFI for each crop and for Texas as a whole. It can also be useful as a policy analysis tool to compare impacts of alternative farm and macroeconomic policies on NFI.

The most effective multinational transfer pricing---the empirical study of Taiwan

Huang, Chung-jian 19 January 2010 (has links)
Governments around the world have regulated multinational enterprises to adopt arm¡¦s length transactions to facilitate identifications and comparisons between non-transfer pricing transactions with independent, non-related enterprises and transactions with related enterprises that are suspected of transfer pricing. Currently, most of the optimal transfer pricing methods for establishing arm¡¦s length principles for multinational enterprises have been addressed in Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development's "Transfer Pricing Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises and Tax Administrations". These guidelines emphasize the establishment of a range of arm¡¦s length transactions through the comparability analysis and the economic analysis of transfer pricing transactions; a taxpayer's returns from transactions with related companies are then compared to the range of arm¡¦s length transactions. Currently the academic world is taking the initiative in the development of relevant models to describe corporate transfer pricing decisions or to measure the net income of corporate transfer pricing transactions. This research stems from these purposes and attempts to describe transfer pricing decisions in real practice through stringent modelling; this model is then used to measure the net income of transfer pricing transactions that took place among electronic industry participants who are publicly listed in the TSE or OTC in Taiwan. We further investigated the main factors that affect the levels of net income transferred by enterprises. Based on the empirical results of this research, we discovered that the impact of raw material costs is highly significant to the corporate transfer pricing decisions, and the magnitude of impacts vary depending on the allocation of net income from transfer pricing. We recommend that the tax administration detect corporate transfer pricing decisions by monitoring the weight of raw material costs in a company.

Assessment of an environmentally-friendly method of ornamental fishing associated with revenues of fishers in Tejakula sub-district, Buleleng region, Bali, Indonesia

Pasaribu-Guzina, Stella Sherley Miryam 17 September 2013 (has links)
This study examined the impact of reformed fishing and reef management practices in a community-based marine ornamental fishery in Tejakula sub-district, Bali, Indonesia, on the development of effective community-based natural resource management. With the absence of cyanide fishing for one decade, the coral reef condition has improved from 26% of area coverage to 53%. T-test result shows that there is no significant difference in individual fishing revenue and a considerable decrease in total fishery revenue. The fishers have benefited in resource conservation and a 73% decrease in fishing costs. The overall number of ornamental fishers has declined, due to social pressure, a smaller overall fishing space because of No Take Zones (NTZ), and fewer orders for ornamental fish.Environmental education for local community members is critical to maintain adherence to the reformed method of fishing. Clear definition of the NTZS policy should be acknowledged to avoid recurring conflict among stakeholders.

Optimized pre-coating of equipment used for CVD

Cao, Jie January 2014 (has links)
In the cutting tool industry, replaceable cutting edge (insert) is often used. As insert support, steel nets are used which are pre-coated before use, since the iron will affect the coatingquality of the inserts. Titanium carbide (TiC) is an ideal material for pre-coating purposes andthe deposition of TiC is performed by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) using a gaseousmixture of TiCl4, CH4 and H2. In order to optimize both the process time and to ensure goodquality, in this master thesis a series of experiments were designed to investigate the influenceof gas flow rates, the CH4/TiCl4 ratio, and the total pressure. The measured parameters werethe coating thickness and the coating quality. The experimental results showed that increasingthe TiCl4 flow rate resulted in an increased coating thickness, but generated HCl has aretarding effect by adsorption. Increasing the CH4/TiCl4 mole ratio led to higher depositionrates, but outgrowth was observed at high ratios. Increasing the total pressure resulted in anincreased deposition rate, but hazardous TiO2 white smoke was observed. The optimal receipt with higher gas flow, CH4/TiCl4 mole ratio, and depositiontemperatures gave a 3.4 μm thick TiC coating after 12.5 h. Compared with the originalprocess, the optimal process obtained in this thesis saved 47 % process time.Surface morphology and grain size were examined using an optical microscope and ascanning electron microscope, and deposited TiC had a grain size of 1-2 μm. Line profileanalysis using energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy showed that the coated TiC layerprevented the diffusion of iron and there was no iron on the surface of the coated steel nets.

Mathematical model of trawl cod-end geometry

O'Neill, Finbarr Gerard January 1998 (has links)
To ensure that the conservation regulations which govern fishing gears are effective, they must be based on an understanding of the process by which fish are selected. The region where most fish selection is considered to take place is the cod-end, the aftmost part of a trawl net and the region where the catch accumulates. In recent years, it has become increasingly apparent that fish selection in the cod-end is dependent on a range of physical, environmental and fish behavioural parameters. Essential to a study of any of these parameters is a knowledge of the cod-end geometry which is determined by the interaction of the water flow, the catch size and the design and physical characteristics of the netting. In this thesis a continuum model of the deformation of a class of axisymmetric networks is developed where the mesh elements are reflection symmetric, the mesh bars are extensible and where arbitrary membrane forces act in the plane of the net, normal to the edges of the mesh elements. When applied to the fishing industry this provides a continuum model of the geometry of an axisymmetric trawl cod-end made from netting of a generalized mesh shape. It is shown how mesh shapes that are of interest to the fishing industry can be investigated, and the geometry of cod-ends made from diamond shaped mesh under the influence of various types of pressure loads is examined in detail. A qualitative description of the hydrodynamic forces that act on the cod-end catch is presented and it is shown that the predictions based on this description are consistent with experimental results from a series of wind tunnel trials. Using this description of the hydrodynamic forces the effect on cod-end geometry of mesh resistance to opening which arises as a result of twine flexural rigidity is examined.
