Vers une typologie de l'exil exupérienBiela, Stephan. January 1996 (has links)
Exile is a recurring theme in the writing of Antoine de Saint-Exupery; this master's thesis examines three forms--physical, psychological, symbolic--this leitmotif takes. The first chapter includes a review of Exuperian criticism and a discussion of the concept of exile; it also outlines the three critical approaches which frame our study of exile in the second chapter. / Our analysis of "physical" exile borrows from the sociohistorical approach of "exile literature" to examine the portrayal of aviation as a world apart in Terre des hommes and Vol de nuit. We turn to feminist rereadings of Lacanian psychoanalysis to assist us in addressing "psychological" exile, which presents itself in the Lettres a sa mere as a constant conflict between the freedom of childhood and the restraints of adulthood. Finally, we examine "symbolic" exile, which arises from the failed relationships of women and men in Courrier sud, in the light of the Anglo-American concept of "gender".

Nietzsche's view of Socrates in The birth of tragedySkilnick, Randall. January 1996 (has links)
This thesis outlines Nietzsche's view of Socrates in The Birth of Tragedy. Socrates is first argued to be the father of science and then, after having explained the artistic nature of the world and ourselves according to Nietzsche, Socrates' degenerative, nihilistic influence upon the world is detailed. Science is then explained to have originated in a moral perspective on the world, the latter growing out of self-denial, and ultimately illness. The "dying Socrates" is Nietzsche's symbol of science as a negative positing of the artistic forces one is, from whence Nietzsche concludes the impossibility of escaping from oneself by such means.

The danger of Nietzsche : a look at Nietzsche's view of Kant in Twilight of the idolsBryan, Bradley W. (Bradley William) January 1994 (has links)
The author argues that Nietzsche's discussion of Kant in Twilight of the Idols illuminates a very troubling tension at the heart of political philosophy. By looking at two sections, the author shows the way in which Nietzsche understands Kantian philosophy as an outcome of a historical movement he refers to as the "devaluation of values". Nietzsche's claim is that Kantian critique, rather than establish grounds, ultimately exposes the lack of ground truth and value have in objective reality.

Kärnkraft - säkerhetsrisk eller energitillgång? : Energipolitisk opinionsbildning inför folkomröstningen 1980Engholm, Albin January 2014 (has links)

Economic development in the Kimberley region of Western Australia: a history and dependency theory perspectiveSharpe, Leslie J. January 2004 (has links)
[Abstract]:The focus of the research undertaken for this dissertation is the economic development of the Kimberley region of Western Australia. The period studied is, approximately, the one hundred years from 1900–2000. The region has many of the characteristics of an underdeveloped area and of a low income economy. This research used dependency theory as a framework for examining the causes of underdevelopment in the Kimberley. The development that occurred in the region during the relevant period has been catalogued by the creation of a database. This has enabled the collected information to be examined and manipulated in many ways. The database has allowed the detail of development in the Kimberley to be studied with respect to time, place and type of activity. This made it possible to examine the five hypotheses proposed by A. G. Frank which he considered likely to lead to fruitful research. The detailed study of these hypotheses would not have been possible in the way described without the database. It was found that dependency theory does help to explain and understand the development experience of the Kimberley region of Western Australia during the twentieth century. This was the clear and positive result of this study. The extension to Frank’s core dependency theory, the five hypotheses, were not found to be applicable to the Kimberley region nor supported by the data. The hypotheses, therefore, do not add to our understanding of the nature of Kimberley development during the period examined. This does not invalidate or devalue the usefulness of dependency theory in this study.
