La modernité religieuse dans la pensée sociologique : Ernst Troeltsch et Max WeberGendron, Pierre, 1948- January 2001 (has links)
This study is centered on the social question as addressed and defined by Ernst Troeltsch (1865--1923) and by Max Weber (1864--1920); it pertains mainly to the rise of religious modernity and its conditions of possibility; based on a comparative analysis of the socio1ogy of religion of Troeltsch and Weber, it deals with the question how religious modernity has to be thought from a sociological perspective. / Along with modern historical science and scientific rationality in general, the social question challenged religion in the nineteenth century; this study brings out the originality of Troeltsch's vision of a modernity compatible with belief in the future of religion. / Motivated by the debate on the social question, Troeltsch's concern was the social foundations of the Christian doctrine in its relation to secular domains of activity, and this calls for a new outlook on the issue of the relation between religion and culture. / Eventually, the comparative approach of the sociological thought of Weber and Troeltsch pursued in the present work, while providing new insight into Weber's views on religion, brings about a better understanding of Troeltsch as a theologian and a philosopher of religion.

'The ideology of the revolution' : an inquiry into Șevket Süreyya Aydemir's interpretation of the Turkish RevolutionKuyas, Ahmet January 1995 (has links)
Influenced by national Communists with whom he came in contact in Bolshevik Russia, Sevket Sureyya Aydemir developed in early republican Turkey a theory which he called theory of national emancipation movements. According to this theory, the emancipation of a colonial nation did not consist only of obtaining political sovereignty. A vanguard of revolutionary elite had to monopolize power, and lead the nation to the creation of a classless society. It was understood that the coming of this new society was the prerequisite for the success of socialist revolution in industrialized countries. Yet, although many in the Kemalist regime felt sympathetic to this theory, the regime did ultimately not endorse it. This is a significant turning point in modern Turkish history, for this response, among other indicators, shows that the new Turkish regime was willing to be a part of the European system despite the latter's record as colonizer and imperialist.

Job satisfaction among pharmaceutical sales represantatives in the context of Herzberg's motivation-hygiene theory.Roopai, Devika. January 2012 (has links)
Data was collected using a questionnaire at two large medical practises. A sample
of 50 respondents was used for the study using the convenience sampling
technique. The questionnaire consisted of two sections, namely section A that
comprised the demographic information and section B collected scores for job
satisfaction questions on a five point scale ranging from very dissatisfied to very
satisfied. Responses to individual questions were tabulated and mean scores and
standard deviations were computed. Pearson’s correlation was used to determine
the relationship between the dimensions of job satisfaction and overall job
satisfaction. The t-test was used to ascertain the relationship between gender and
the job satisfaction factors, as well as overall job satisfaction. The F-test was used
to examine the relationship between age, marital status, qualifications and length of
service with the job satisfaction factors and overall job satisfaction respectively.
Overall the respondents were satisfied with their job. Highest satisfaction levels
were experienced for working conditions, work itself and recognition. It was found
that “Working Conditions” was the best predictor of overall job satisfaction
followed by job security and responsibility. / Thesis (MBA)-University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, 2012.

George Edward Kessler and the Indianapolis Park System : a study of its historical development during the City Beautiful era, 1895-1915O'Day, James Robert January 1988 (has links)
The purpose of this report was to investigate the role of George Edward Kessler and the historical events which effected the development of the Indianapolis park system. Heretofore, this area of study has received little scholarly attention. Kessler has proven to be a significant figure in landscape architecture and city planning history; his landscape and planning philosophies profoundly restructured the urban fabric of Indianapolis and numerous other cities throughout America. As a result of Kessler's involvement, Indianapolis is heir to a sophisticated network of parks and boulevards representational of City Beautiful Era planning. This park system is an historically and a culturally valuable legacy as it has shaped the city's urban character. The study focused on the Indianapolis park system's developmental period, 1895-1915. Primary and secondary source material was researched in order to document the park system's initial beginnings during the Park Movement through its maturation during the City Beautiful Era.Kessler's original plan contemplated 175 miles of parkways along the city's river and stream corridors, and an additional 175 miles of connecting boulevards. The Kessler park system included a total of 12,000 acres for the city. It should be noted that the system fell short of this grandiose scheme, however, the study concluded that Kessler played a significant role in the development of the Indianapolis park system. By the close of the 1920's, much of the groundwork for the Kessler plan had been successfully implemented. In recent years, designed landscapes have gained considerable new attention from preservationists, landscape architects and allied professions. Kessler's visionary scheme for the Indianapolis park system is a significant layer of design upon the city's physical plan.In light of this growing appreciation of the nation's historic urban greenspaces and the events which shaped them, this study was undertaken. / Department of Architecture

El largo viaje the long journey : the cultural politics of the Communist Party of Spain, 1920-1939 / Long journeyGoméz, María Teresa. January 1999 (has links)
El largo viaje/The Long Journey deals with the cultural politics of the Communist Party of Spain from 1920, when Communism first emerged in the country, until 1939, when the Spanish Civil War ended. The aim of this dissertation is two-fold. On the one hand, by looking at the Party's cultural discourse, its attempts to provide the working class with a political education, and its relationship with communist intellectuals, it aims at explaining the Party's evolution from its original proletarian line in the early 1920s to its democratic line in the mid-1930s, after it joined the anti-fascist Popular Front alliance. On the other, it aims at investigating how, between the years of 1936 and 1938, the Communist Party ended up fulfilling the democratic revolutionary dream of the Spanish bourgeoisie. Through its work in the Ministry of Public Instruction, the Party brought back to life the cultural discourse and aspirations which the reformist and Republican bourgeoisie had been holding on to since the mid- and late nineteenth century. In doing that, Spanish Communists were using cultural practice to further advance the cause of the democratic revolution, and, perhaps more importantly, to make the Spanish people full participants in that revolution for the very first time.
