Ela viveu com os nervos tensos e experimentou muitos caminhos, alguns verdadeiramente surpreendentes. Entretanto, apesar dessa complexidade constituída pela pluralidade de tendências que a irrigaram, é possível - não contudo sem alguma dose de exagero ou arbitrariedade - dividi-la em (ao menos) dois momentos distintos. Ao primeiro deles, que começa em 1969 e se estende até 1974 (e coincide com os anos mais truculentos da ditadura militar) chamaremos de "Cultura da Derrota". Ao segundo, que coincide com a política "de abertura" (e vai de 1975 a 1980) chamaremos de "Época de Resistência". Estudar a produção cultural - ou melhor - a atividade literária dessa década não é, dada sua natureza complexa, tarefa fácil. Informe de Seminario de Grado para optar al grado de Licenciada en Lengua y Literatura Hispánica / Facultad de Filosofía y Humanidades / Para realizar el análisis de nuestra novela, Escenario de guerra, de Andrea Jeftanovic, es pertinente atender a los postulados de Jorge Vargas, quien reconoce una serie de características de lo que suele llamarse “nueva narrativa chilena”. En primer lugar, explica, las que son así catalogadas, son narraciones de corte realista, que aparecen en contextos espacio-temporales reconocibles, cotidianos en el marco de la historia reciente. En segundo lugar, dice, en estas obras la realidad es solo el punto de partida, y ella se fractura y reordena en la visión personal, por esa razón es que interesan tanto así las relaciones entre las personas, la problemática psicológica y todos los procesos de búsqueda de una identidad o de un destino. En tercer lugar, es notoria la presencia de la narrativa femenina, que a su vez es un fenómeno con códigos y temas propios. Finalmente, es recurrente la aparición de narraciones metaliterarias donde se cuestiona desde el acto de escribir hasta el mundo representado.

Thesis (M.A.)--University of the Witwatersrand, Faculty of Arts, 1983. / This dissertation traces the life aiu. career of James Sofasonke Mpanza , in particular since he became involved in local politics in Orlando in 1935. His major political act was the organisation of a large squatter camp in 1944. On the basis of this he and the Sofasonke Party rose to power in Orlando. With the political climate resulting from the rise of national politics in the 1950's, his party lost its support but returned in the wake of state repression. He was drawn into state structures , but retained a widespread good reputation in spite of this. vThis work seeks to demonstrate through a highly detailed story of Mpanza's carreer that only political power built on the organisation of working class demands is durable , but also only if this is accompanied by an ideology consistent with working class interests. It is the former on which Mpanza's reputation is based and the lack of the latter which led to his downfall.

This thesis represents an original contribution to research in offering a comprehensive analysis of the work of Rudolf Bahro. The thesis combines a study of Bahro's work as a prominent opposition figure in the German Democratic Republic in the 1970s with an assessment of his career as an outspoken member of the West German Green Party in the 1980s. The core of the thesis is devoted to a thorough reappraisal of Bahro's major critique of 'actually existing socialism' in East Germany, Die Alternative - Zyr Kraik des real existierenden Sozialismus. Bahro's harsh critique of the SED is explored within the context of the GDR's historical development and Eastern European Marxist revisionism in general. A critical analysis of the extensive secondary literature which now surrounds this work is undertaken to discover how far existing interpretations offer an accurate assessment of Die Alternative. A further section compares for the first time the differing reception of Bahro's study in both East and West Germany. Bahro's earliest essays as an editor of the GDR journal Forum and his first critical work ... die nicht mit den Wolfen heulen are discussed as a key to establishing the particular nature of his opposition. Later chapters trace the development of Sahro's theories and discuss his contribution to the peace and ecology debates in West Germany in the 1980s. Bahro's efforts to achieve a synthesis of the interests of ecology and socialism are explored and his 'Fundamentalist' version of Green politics is discussed within the context of the Green Party's early development. The thesis concludes with an assessment of the increasingly radical utopianism permeating Bahro's writings and offers a critical examination of his attempts to infuse the ecology debate with a spiritual dimension, as detailed in Logik der Rettung, his chief work written in West Germany.
