Weibel, Thomas 09 July 2013 (has links) (PDF)

Richard, Stéphanie 15 October 1997 (has links) (PDF)

Laoubi, Yanis 21 November 2017 (has links)
The aim of this PhD thesis is to propose a design approach of the axial flux permanent magnet synchronous generator for multi megawatts wind converter application. The axial flux permanent magnet synchronous machine being intrinsically three dimensional, a 3D multiphysics sizing model is needed in order to conduct an efficient optimal design of this type of machines. Unfortunately, 3D multiphysic models are generally issued from finite element method. So, they are very heavy to be handled in a reduced time from an engineer point of view and especially at the first stages of the design procedure. In order to address the faster axial flux machine design, this PhD thesis develops a lumped parameters approach modelling offering a good computation time to precision ratio and thus helping to reduce considerably the spent time in the first stages design procedure. The lumped parameters modelling approach is also well suited for the modelling of the three main physics to be considered in an electrical generator (magnetic model, thermal model and mechanical model). For the magnetic model, the lumped parameters approach consists, in this thesis, in the development of a generic magnetic reluctance network linked to the machine geometry. In fact, the latter is divided into parallelepipedic elementary volumes, each of them is modelled by a local reluctance network. The reluctance network of the hole machine geometry results then automatically in an algebraic magnetic system, the solution of which provides the distribution of the scalar magnetic potential at the elementary volume nodes. The described lumped parameters modelling was implemented in a computational code developed at the GREAH Lab. The effectiveness of the reluctance network axial flux machine modelling was validated by 2D and 3D finite element simulations. The lumped parameters computational code will regroup the ongoing developments of thermal and mechanical models at the GREAH Lab in order to reach the completion of a mutliphysics lumped parameters computational code.

High-Order Spectral Element Method Simulation of Flow Past a 30P30N Three-Element High Lift Wing

Vadsola, Mayank 10 September 2020 (has links)
The purpose of a multi-element high lift device is to increase lift dramatically while controlling the stall limit. The fluid flow over a multi-element high lift device has been explored widely both experimentally and numerically at high Reynolds numbers (O(10^6 )). The numerical simulations use turbulence models and hence details of the flow are not yet available. Low Reynolds number (O(10^4 )) flows over high lift devices have not been explored until recently. These lower Reynolds number flows have applications in the development of small aerial vehicles. The present work discusses both two-dimensional and three-dimensional direct numer- ical simulations of fluid flow over a 30P30N three-element high lift system using a high-order spectral element method code, Nek5000, that solves the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. The intricate geometry of the multi-element device poses a challenge for the high-order spectral element method. We study the complex flow physics in the slat cove region and the wake/shear layer interaction over a 30P30N three-element high lift device. The targeted cases are at Reynolds num- bers based on stowed chord lengths (Rec ) of 8.32 × 10^3 , 1.27 × 10^4 , and 1.83 × 10^4 at angle of attack of 4. A critical interval for Rec has previously been found between 1.27 × 10^4 and 1.38 × 10^4 in experiments. This divides the flow into two types: when Rec is below the critical interval, no roll-up is observed in the slat cove and Görtler vortices dominate the slat wake; however when the Rec is above the critical interval, a roll-up is observed in the slat cove and co-existence of streamwise and spanwise vortices is confirmed in the slat wake. We confirm the presence of the critical interval from the simulations performed at three values of Rec . Lift and drag analysis is provided along with pressure coefficient plots for each element of the multi-element airfoil. Different vortical structures are also identified in the transition of flow from two dimensions to three dimensions. The relevant validation is performed with the available experimental data.

Optimal Optimizer Hyper-Parameters for 2D to 3D Reconstruction

Teki, Sai Ajith January 2021 (has links)
2D to 3D reconstruction is an ill-posed problem in the field of Autonomous Robot Navigation. Many practitioners are tend to utilize the enormous success of Deep Learning techniques like CNN, ANN etc to solve tasks related to this 2D to 3D reconstruction. Generally, every deep learning model involves implementation of different optimizers related to the tasks to lower the possible negativity in its results and selection of hyper parameter values for these optimizers during the process of training the model with required dataset.Selection of this optimizer hyper-parameters requires in-depth knowledge and trials and errors. So proposing optimal hyper parameters for optimizers results in no waste in computational resources and time.Hence solution for the selected task cab found easily. The main objective of this research is to propose optimal hyper parameter values of various deep learning optimizers related to 2D to 3D reconstruction and proposing best optimizer among them in terms of computational time and resources To achieve the goal of this study two research methods are used in our work. The first one is a Systematic Literature Review; whose main goal is to reveal the widely selected and used optimizers for 2D to 3D reconstruction model using 3D Deep Learning techniques. The second, an experimental methodology is deployed, whose main goal is to propose the optimal hyper parameter values for respective optimizers like Adam, SGD+Momentum, Adagrad, Adadelta and Adamax which are used in 3D reconstruction models. In case of the computational time, Adamax optimizer outperformed all other optimizers used with training time (1970min), testing time (3360 min), evaluation-1 (16 min) and evaluation-2 (14 min).In case of Average Point cloud points, Adamax outperformed all other optimizers used with Mean value of 28451.04.In case of pred->GT and GT->pred values , Adamax optimizer outperformed all other optimizers with mean values of 4.742 and 4.600 respectively. Point Cloud Images with respective dense cloud points are obtained as results of our experiment. From the above results,Adamax optimizer is proved to be best in terms of visualization of Point Cloud images with optimal hyper parameter values as below:Epochs : 1000    Learning Rate : 1e-2    Chunk size : 32    Batch size : 32.  In this study,'Adamax' optimizer with optimal hyper para meter values and better Point Cloud Image is proven to be the best optimizer that can be used in a 2D to 3D reconstruction related task that deals with Point Cloud images

3D ENDOSCOPY VIDEO GENERATED USING DEPTH INFERENCE: CONVERTING 2D TO 3D

Rao, Swetcha 20 August 2013 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / A novel algorithm was developed to convert raw 2-dimensional endoscope videos into 3-dimensional view. Minimally invasive surgeries aided with 3D view of the invivo site have shown to reduce errors and improve training time compared to those with 2D view. The novelty of this algorithm is that two cues in the images have been used to develop the 3D. Illumination is the rst cue used to nd the darkest regions in the endoscopy images in order to locate the vanishing point(s). The second cue is the presence of ridge-like structures in the in-vivo images of the endoscopy image sequence. Edge detection is used to map these ridge-like structures into concentric ellipses with their common center at the darkest spot. Then, these two observations are used to infer the depth of the endoscopy videos; which then serves to convert them from 2D to 3D. The processing time is between 21 seconds to 20 minutes for each frame, on a 2.27GHz CPU. The time depends on the number of edge pixels present in the edge-detection image. The accuracy of ellipse detection was measured to be 98.98% to 99.99%. The algorithm was tested on 3 truth images with known ellipse parameters and also on real bronchoscopy image sequences from two surgical procedures. Out of 1020 frames tested in total, 688 frames had single vanishing point while 332 frames had two vanishing points. Our algorithm detected the single vanishing point in 653 of the 688 frames and two vanishing points in 322 of the 332 frames.

Train Induced Vibration Analysis of an End-frame Bridge : Numerical Analysis on Sidensjövägen

Wiberg, Niklas, Halilovic, Jasmin January 2018 (has links)
Higher speeds and higher capacity will cause the Swedish rail network to be exposed to disturbing dynamic effects. Higher speeds cause higher vertical acceleration levels of the bridge deck. In this thesis, a numerical analysis of a three span end-frame bridge subjected to train induced vibrations is performed. The aim is to identify which structural components and boundary conditions that affect the dynamic behavior of the bridge. Furthermore, the influence of soil structure interaction (SSI) will be investigated as it may have contribution to the stiffness and damping of the structural system.  In order to capture the dynamic response of the bridge, an analysis in the frequency domain was preformed where frequency response functions (FRF) and acceleration envelopes were obtained. For this purpose, a detailed FE-model in 3D was created. Three different cases were studied, model subjected to ballast, model subjected to soil and model subjected to both ballast and soil in coherence. A high speed load model (HSLM) was used to create simulation of train passages at different speeds and applied to all cases so that the bridge deck accelerations could be studied. A simplified 2D-model with impedance functions representing the soil-structure interaction was created to validate the results from the detailed 3D-model and for practical design purposes.  The result of this numerical analysis showed that the vertical accelerations were within acceptable levels of the maximum allowed limits given in governing publications. Considering the surrounding soil, the results revealed an increase of the dynamic response in the midspan at resonant frequency. However, it was identified that this behavior is not explained by the influence of soil structure interaction but rather the change in boundary conditions of the end-shields. The same dynamic behavior was identified for the simplified 2D-model, with a slight underestimation of the vertical accelerations at resonance.
