Digital Textiles : tactile expression in a virtual environment

Af Ekenstam, Majli January 2021 (has links)
What if fibres were strings of numbers, arrays of digits turned into threads, not taking a specific form but constantly evolving. An increasing online presence and virtual experiences are shifting the understanding and definition of materiality. This work starts with a focus on textile expressions in a virtual world. It is built on new ideas on material thinking, with an emphasis on the divergence of aesthetic expressions. It explores the crossing between traditional craft and complex computer-generated structures. The idea is to reimagine how textiles are designed and made. The aim is to broaden the textile design field by exploring the definition of textiles through digital materiality, focusing on computer-generated images and surfaces in 3d software.

Landscape performance of Callistemon citrinus under environmental stress conditions

Mohsin, Riyadh Mannaa 09 August 2019 (has links)
Woody ornamental plants are considered the key for well- designed landscapes; Callistemon citrinus is one of those plants. In arid and semiarid areas, Callistemon has been used in gardens and landscapes for its unique characteristics. This study was conducted to evaluate the performance of Callistemon in landscapes under different environmental stress conditions including water, and heat. Further, the potential of using 3D software SketchUp in landscape design was also investigated. Callistemon plants were grown under 100, 50 or 30% of field capacity with or without shredded hardwood mulch. When field capacity decreased, root: shoot ratio and water use efficiency were improved, but canopy temperature increased. The decreased water caused decreases in leaf greenness, chlorophyll a, shoot volume, root volume, leaf water potential, and transpiration rate. Mulch increased root volume and leaf water potential. Callistemon growth under shade structure angle and orientation was examined. Shade structures were installed at 90° and 70° to the ground and three orientations, south, east, and west. Transpiration rate was reduced under the shade. The plant’s response to heat was also examined. Plant were exposed to 45/35, 35/25, or 25/15 °C, d/n. The plant’s physiological response was tested after two weeks. Highest temperatures decreased Chl b content and SOD activity compared to control. In contrast, carotenoid content and H2O2 level increased under the highest temperature treatment. Catalase activity was increased at moderate but decreased under the highest temperatures. Designing a 3D model using SketchUp software was examined. The program function was evaluated, and the designed experiment was tested. Planning a site with shadows predicted was achieved. The work was done with greater precision and less effort. The program was effective in reducing time and cost. SketchUp can be successfully used in landscape work.

Steger, Wolfgang, Schöne, Christine, Nitsche, Helmut 03 January 2020 (has links)
VYUŽITÍ 3D TECHNOLOGIÍ VE VEŘEJNÉM PROSTORU / THE USE OF 3D TECHNOLOGY IN THE PUBLIC SPACE

Šebánek, Jan Unknown Date (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to define the impact of rapid prototyping technology in terms of creative potential to use this technology represents a particularly sculpture and architecture. Rapid Prototyping is a generic term covering a range of technologies: 3D scan converting the already realistic three-dimensional objects in computer memory, parametric modeling, which creates three-dimensional objects based on the formative algorithms, photogrammetry method of compiling three-dimensional object from a photo, technology, 3D printing materializing after each layer objects transferred from the computer's memory. When processing the theoretical work will be explored and discussed possibilities for realization of basic three-dimensional objects using 3D technology. The second step will be to map the different methods of access to artists working with 3D technology. In the end it tried to evaluate the benefits of these technologies in the field of sculpture and architecture in terms of traditional approaches. This paper attempts to describe the possible implications and potential of this progressive field in the classical artistic disciplines such as sculpture and architecture, both in terms of benefits and in terms of the eventual negative impact with respect to increasing the availability of this technology.

Advancing the Filling Process in Agricultural Machinery : Hopper observation technology for improved filling in Väderstad´s Seed Hawk 600-900C / Förbättring av fyllningsprocessen i jordbruksmaskiner : Övervakningssystem av sålådor för bättre påfyllning av Väderstads Seed Hawk 600-900C

Abou Shkair, Ali, Augustini, Jakob January 2024 (has links)
This master’s thesis was conducted in the spring of 2024 at Väderstad AB, a companyknown for producing high-performance agricultural machines, such as seeding machines. Among these machines, the Seed Hawk 600-900C is an important machine for thecompany’s future. The innovation department at Väderstad has developed an automatic Bag Slicer, capable of slicing large bags of seeds/fertilizer without requiring the farmer to climb onto the machine, a cumbersome and hazardous task. Several challenges arisein integrating the Bag Slicer onto their machines, which has hindered its implementation. These challenges have been thoroughly investigated, and one has been selected as thepriority for resolution: enabling the observation of the filling process without the need for climbing onto the hopper. To address this challenge, theoretical studies, concept development, and investigations in the 3D software Blender have been conducted. Creo Parametric was utilized to assemble the Bag Slicer onto the Seed Hawk machine and design other essential components. Coloring, animations, and renderings were created in Blender to create a configuration of cameras, lights, cables, and investigate their properties. This configuration provides users witha comprehensive overview of the filling process and enables operation of the Bag Slicerin the field from the safety of a tractor or wheel loader. Consideration has been given to the conditions occurring inside and around the Seed Hawk machine when specifyingall the different components and operational requirements. The entire configuration was compiled into a complete list of specifications, constituting the main result of this thesis.

DIY technologie v digitálním sochařství / DIY technologies in digital sculpture

Váňa, Dušan January 2020 (has links)
This dissertation thesis is focused on the search for the presence of DIY (Do It Yourself) technologies in the practice of digital sculpting, from the beginnings of this progressive way of creation to the present. The work, through three thematic areas, answers the main research questions: What kind of technology is or has the DIY phenomenon been represented in digital sculpture? How have these technologies influenced and are influencing the development and direction of digital sculpture? Within the first thematic area, the presence of the DIY phenomenon in the beginnings of digital creation of a spatial work of art is mapped until the moment of constituting the concept of Digital Sculpture, as a designation of this new way of creation. The second area deals with specific technologies of digital sculpture, in terms of technical tools and their DIY alternatives. The development of these alternative technologies and their influence on the gradual democratization of digital sculpture tools is investigated. The third area examines the creative methods of DIY, which have been integrated into the practice of digital sculpture.
