Decision levels in the Swedish major banks : What do they prioritize in the credit assessment of companies and why?

Bengtsson, Sebastian, Ohrlander, Caroline January 2014 (has links)
Credit assessment is an important tool for the Swedish major banks in the role as capital intermediaries for companies. It can be based on the 5 C’s and used on several different decision levels. There is a practical and a theoretical problem in how the banks should organize the credit assessment since earlier research disagree regarding the prioritising in the credit assessment on different decision levels and what explains it. The main purpose of the study is then what the decision levels in the Swedish major banks prioritize in the credit assessment of companies, within the frame of the 5 C’s and which factors that explains that. With a qualitative method we have conducted interviews with managers and business advisors who represent the highest and the lowest decision levels on the local level, whilst secondary data in terms of the banks risk management reports have represented central level and the highest decision level. The result is that central level and the managers prioritize the capacity and the business advisors prioritize the character. Explaining factors is laws and credit policies which central level and managers sees as more controlling regarding prioritizing the capacity. Further on the rating consists of both financial ratios as well as subjective judgements. Another factor is the size on the company where business advisors handle smaller companies, which are easiest judged with base in the character.

3-Substituted Purines: Methodology, Synthesis, and Studies of DNA Hydration in the Minor Groove

Arico, Joseph William January 2010 (has links)
Thesis advisor: Mary F. Roberts / As the central repository of biological information and ultimate mediator of all processes underlying the activities of living organisms, nucleic acids are the sine qua non for life as we know it. Biological research over the past century and more has revealed much of the structure and function of nucleic acids, revealing in turn how life begins, changes, reproduces, and ends. We glimpse how life has become what it is and perhaps what it may become. This work seeks to understand the ramifications of altering a single nitrogen of the purine nucleoside components of nucleic acids. As will be shown, purine analogs lacking the N3 nitrogen have altered interactions with proteins, water, and other molecules. Replacement of this nitrogen with a C-H, C-CH3, or C-CH2OH functionality impacts the structure and biological interactions of a DNA duplex containing these alterations in ways not entirely foreseen when this work began over ten years ago. The synthetic effort needed to obtain purine nucleosides containing each of these modifications is significant. Along the way, new methodologies applicable both to the synthesis of purine analogs and natural purine nucleosides are described. / Thesis (PhD) — Boston College, 2010. / Submitted to: Boston College. Synthèse et études des relations structure/activité quantitatives (QSAR/2D) d'analyse benzo[c]phénanthridiniques

Huynh, Thi Ngoc Phuong 29 June 2007 (has links) (PDF)

Behavioral and molecular aspects of the cross-sensitization between stress and cocaine

Araujo, Ana Paula Natalini de 10 August 2001 (has links)
A potential etiologic factor in substance abuse is stress, and it is possible that chronic exposure to stressful life’s events is related to the development of drug dependence and relapse. Behavioral sensitization is defined as an augmentation of a response to a drug during repeated drug exposure. Behavioral sensitization has been shown to occur to the locomotor and reinforcing effects of cocaine, amphetamine and other drugs of abuse. It has been suggested that sensitization is the genesis of compulsive drug use. Converging evidence suggests that exposure to stress induces behavioral sensitization to psychostimulant drugs. The present study investigates behavioral and molecular aspects of the cross-sensitization between stress and cocaine. We evaluated the basal and cocaine-induced locomotor activity, corticosterone plasma levels and protein kinase cAMP-dependent (PKA) activity in animals exposed to acute or chronic predictable and unpredictable stress. Increased basal and cocaine-induced locomotor activity was observed in animals exposed to chronic predictable stress. Chronic predictable stress increased basal corticosterone levels but did not change protein kinase A activity in both accumbens and striatum. In conclusion, predictable stress produced sensitization to locomotor effects of cocaine but this effect did not correlate with changes in PKA activity.

Foreign Market Analysis : Should Oriflame Enter France?

Tunbjer, Michael, Jarne, Marion January 2006 (has links)
The global marketplace today encompasses 6 billion people. Many companies are beginning to see themselves as international rather than national acting on a global arena. An essential aspect of going abroad is to know where to go and why to go there. In order to be able to analyze a foreign market a company needs to do market research in the foreign market as to gather essential information. A firm which is facing a quick internationalization process is the Swedish direct sales firm of cosmetics Oriflame. Oriflame has grown quickly in developing countries but is not present in one of the biggest market for direct sales in Europe: France. The purpose of this thesis is to develop a theoretical framework to analyze foreign markets and apply it to the French market of direct sales in cosmetics and Oriflame. A qualitative study based on the 5 Cs framework for analyzing foreign markets has been carried out. Seven focus groups have been conducted in France and Sweden in order to obtain information about and comparability in consumer attitudes towards Oriflame’s marketing mix. Interviews have been conducted in order to get information about Oriflame as a company. Secondary data has been gathered from different sources for the theoretical framework as well as for the empirical research on issues such as culture, competition and market. This thesis has developed a theoretical framework to analyze foreign markets called the 5 Cs. The 5 Cs are based on: Company, Constitution, Competition, Customers and Culture. The 5 Cs is a very general framework and can be applied to a wide range of foreign markets and firms and was in this case applied to analyze a real world case of Oriflame and France. The analysis of the empirical findings found that there is potential for Oriflame to enter the French market in terms of consumer preferences and general market characteristics. However, it also found that what will probably determine everything in the end is whether Oriflame can be strategically committed to enter a mature West European market like France.
