The objective of this dissertation study is to explore the socialist workers& / #8217 / self-government and to what extend the socialist workers self-government& / #8217 / s theoretical aim and potential for the transcendence of the alienation of labor has been realized in the experience of the Socialist Yugoslavia, by a theoretically and socio-historical contextually grounded comparative empirical inquiry in Yugoslavia. The main theoretical thesis of this study is that compared to the etatist-bureaucratic socialist system and the capitalist societal system, the self-governing socialism can have a qualitatively more significant positive effect on the workers influence over decision-making and the transcendence of alienation of labor in work organizations. The study is composed of three main parts: (1) the examination and evaluation of the theoretical perspectives on the socialist workers& / #8217 / self-government and the alienation of labor, (2) the examination of the development of the socialist workers& / #8217 / self-government in Yugoslavia in practice, and (3) a comparative empirical study concerning the effect of the socialist workers& / #8217 / self-government in Yugoslavia and the capitalist non-participative management in Turkey on the workers influence over decision-making and the transcendence of the alienation of labor in work organizations. The analyses of the research data for the within - the socialist workers self-management system in Yugoslavia revealed that, contrary to the expectations of the related theory, ideology and de jure structure, the socialist workers self-management did not have a qualitatively significant positive effect on the workers influence and transcendence of the alienation of labor in work organizations.
However, as to the between societal systems comparison, the analyses of the research data indicated that, in consistent with the theoretical expectations, compared with the capitalist management system in Turkey, the socialist workers self-management in Yugoslavia has a statistically more significant positive effect on the workers influence and the reduction of the powerlessness in work dimension of the alienation of labor.

The Effect Of Three Different Types Of Corrective Feedback On Writing Performances Of English Language Learners.Eylenen, Sibel 01 December 2008 (has links) (PDF)
This study aimed at investigating the effects of three different types of error correction feedback on foreign language students. This study is conducted in the Department of Foreign Languages at TOBB ETU in three B level clasess and three different error correction techniques are used to mesaure the effectiveness of each one on general writing success of the students.
For this purpose, 68 preparatory school students at TOBB ETU participated the study. The data were collected through quantitative and qualitative data collection instruments. The pre-test and post test results as well as the grades of weekly regular writing assignments provided the quantitative data. The qualitative data came from the semi-structured students interviews.
The analysis of the quantitative data, especially the comparison of the pre-test and post-test, indicated that the students who received three different types of feedback didn& / #8217 / t score significantly different from each other. However, a close scrutiny of the analysis of the grades of weekly writing assignments give important insight about the usefulness of the coded type of feedback as the students getting that type of feedback outperformed the others in most of the weeks.
The analysis of the semi-structured interviews has shown that the students prefer more salient corrective types of feedback

The Impact Of The Southeastern Anatolia Project On The Inter-regional Inequalities In TurkeySuer Toybiyik, Sibel 01 December 2003 (has links) (PDF)
The aim of this study is to examine the impact of the South Eastern Anatolia Project (GAP) on the inter-regional inequality between the GAP region and the rest of Turkey. Cross-sectional analyses are carried out for the years of 1990 and 2000, that is, before the project is put into effect and 10 years after of its implementation. Although this thesis is ultimately concerned with the inter-regional inequality, the within and the total-region inequality are also discussed. Moreover, since not only the economic, infrastructure and service related variables, but also the sociodemographic
variables are included in the analyses, it is a comprehensive evaluation, and the results provide current information about the success of the GAP.
In this study, Theil' / s inequality index is used as it provides the property of additive decomposability, which allows us to analyze the magnitudes and trends in inequality among regions and within regions as well as total inequality. The indicators include 17 socio-demographic, 12 economic, and 10 infrastructure and service related variables, i.e., total of 39 independent variables.
Although the GAP region performed an improvement in absolute terms for most of the variables, the findings show that the inequality between the GAP region and the rest of Turkey increased for more than half of the variables during the last decade. These variables are mostly related to demography (i.e., infant mortality rate, fertility rate, etc.), health services, and GDP p.c.. On the other hand, the between-region inequality decreased for the variables related to infrastructure, urbanization, educational level (i.e., literacy and schooling ratios in primary education), and nonagricultural labor force.

Building For Women& / #8217 / s Education During The Early Republican Period In Turkey Ismet Pasa Girls& / #8217 / Institute In Ankara In The 1930sGurol, Pelin 01 January 2003 (has links) (PDF)
This study attempts to examine the architecture in Turkey during the Early
Republican period as part of the social, economic and political context of the
modernization process of the newly founded state, focusing on the case of the ismet
PaSa Girls& / #8217 / Institute in Ankara.
Firstly, the education of woman in general and the Girls& / #8217 / Institutes in
particular are scrutinized in order to analyze the changes in the social role of women
in the context of modernization in the Early Republic. Secondly, the relationship
between women and the built environment is examined with reference to the
changes women experienced in this context. The architectural context of the period is analyzed to examine the buildings of the Girls& / #8217 / Institutes as contemporary
examples of the creation of a modern built environment in Turkey. Lastly, the
building of the ismet PaSa Girls& / #8217 / Institute is examined in detail, by also making
comparisons with other contemporary school buildings in Ankara. The building,
which was constructed as a modernist school building by the foreign architect Ernst
Egli in the center of Ankara, is evaluated as the representation of modern women
and modern architecture for the new nation-state. So, the aim of this study is to
assess the ismet PaSa Girls& / #8217 / Institute in Ankara as the example of contemporary
educational institutions as well as of contemporary architecture in Turkey,
corresponding with the attempt of the new nation-state towards modernization.

Sturm Comparison Theory For Impulsive Differential EquationsOzbekler, Abdullah - 01 December 2005 (has links) (PDF)
In this thesis, we investigate Sturmian comparison theory and oscillation for second order impulsive differential equations with fixed moments of impulse actions. It is shown that impulse actions may greatly alter the oscillation behavior of solutions.
In chapter two, besides Sturmian type comparison results, we give Leightonian type comparison theorems and obtain Wirtinger type inequalities for linear, half-linear and non-selfadjoint equations. We present analogous results for forced super linear and super half-linear equations with damping.
In chapter three, we derive sufficient conditions for oscillation of nonlinear equations. Integral averaging, function averaging techniques as well as interval criteria for oscillation are discussed. Oscillation criteria for solutions of impulsive Hill& / #8217 / s equation with damping and forced linear equations with damping are established.

Finalmente, valendo-me do estágio
This work aims to understand teacher’s point of view on scientific news, specifically the ones concerning Genetics/Evolution/Biotechnology available information which arrives in classroom. Thus, the focus of the research rises upon the understanding of teachers’ attitudes and the variety of ways in which they use the scientific news within their classrooms. The research has used interviews as the main data collection strategy to build a case study with three biology schoolteachers. The main assumption of the work is that school subjects have a dynamic characteristic, changing according to the community upon which the school is placed, and that teachers build specific knowledge hemselves. From this perspective, the research targets to specify the mechanisms used by teachers to deal with tensions in classroom caused by the informing of counter-intuitive (and therefore surprising) scientific news. Taking into account how influent is the reference science to determine biology teaching contents at school, the research studies several interactions that teachers establish when confronted with different knowledge modalities. Also, these interactions can produce behaviours that range from scientific knowledge updating to specific ways to control a
classroom. Finally, by the use of the current stage of biological knowledge and its social
consequences, the research contributes to understand not only new trends in biology teaching, but also Genetics/ Evolution/ Biotechnology school subject contents.
