COMPARISON AND EVALUATION OF HARDWARE MODELLING AND SIMULATION TOOLS

Karlsson, Mattias January 2011 (has links)
Avionics Division of Saab AB develops advanced electronics that need to be robust and work in harsh environments with for example extreme temperatures and cosmic radiation without any failure. To succeed with this the electronics need to be simulated and tested. Therefore this thesis work is done to strengthen the Avionics Division’s knowledge of hardware modelling and simulation by evaluating the simulation tools LTSpice, PSpice and SystemVision, their functions and capabilities. In this thesis a survey is carried out with help of a questionnaire to study the Avionics Division’s needs for simulation. The survey is underlying an analysis of the analyses that can be performed by the simulation tools for example Sensitivity analysis, Worst Case analysis, Monte Carlo analysis and Parametric Sweep analysis. The different analyses are discussed in the thesis. The questionnaire is also underlying an analysis of the tools LTSpice, PSpice and SystemVision. The result of the analysis is summarized in Table 1. A case study of a circuit simulation in SystemVision, based on an existing circuit used by Avionics Division, is also done within this thesis work. The study is done to evaluate the tool’s usability, to see if it is easy to perform a simulation and if it is easy to find and use suitable models from the model library. The case study describes how a simulation is performed in SystemVision and how an AC analysis of a Butterworth filter is done. A stability and reliability check of the tool is performed as well as a robustness simulation. The analyses were easy to do and the overall impression is that SystemVision is reliable and user friendly structured. In order to check and compare the results of the AC analysis the same analysis is performed using LTSpice. The comparison shows that the results differ. This depending on that the models of the circuit were some what different in LTSpice and SystemVision. The final conclusion is that SystemVision would fit within Avionics Division’s workflow. Using SystemVision demands education of the engineers to secure maximum use of all the advantages of SystemVision.

Systemc Implementation With Analog Mixed Signal Modeling For A Microcontroller

Mert, Yakup Murat 01 April 2007 (has links) (PDF)
In this thesis, an 8-bit microcontroller, PIC 16F871, has been implemented using SystemC with classical hardware design methods. Analog modules of the microcontroller have been modeled behaviorally with SystemC-AMS which is the analog and mixed signal extensions for the SystemC. SystemC-AMS provides the capability to model non-digital modules and synchronization with the SystemC kernel. In this manner, electronic systems that have both digital and analog components can be described and simulated very effectively. The PIC 16F871 is a well known and very common microcontroller. Its architecture, peripheral modules and analog components makes this microcontroller pretty good model for a System on Chip (SoC) concept. Designed microcontroller&rsquo / s peripheral modules, instruction set and addressing modes have been verified utilizing the test codes. Besides, designed microcontroller has been tested with 16-bit CRC code. Moreover, a synchronous demodulator system that involves designed microcontroller and additional analog units has been constructed and simulated. Finally, SystemC to hardware flow has been demonstrated with implementation of arithmetic logic unit of the 16F871 into FPGA based hardware.

Kostenmodellierung mit SystemC/System-AMS

Markert, Erik, Wang, Hailu, Herrmann, Göran, Heinkel, Ulrich 08 June 2007 (has links) (PDF)

New on-line mass spectrometric tools for studying urban organic aerosol sources

Reyes Villegas, Ernesto January 2018 (has links)
Atmospheric aerosols have been shown to have a significant impact on air quality and health in urban environments. Organic aerosols (OA) are one of the main constituents of submicron particulate matter. They are composed of thousands of different chemical species, which makes it challenging to identify and quantify their sources. OA sources have been previously studied; however quantitative knowledge of aerosol composition and their processes in urban environments is still limited. The results presented here investigate OA, their chemical composition and sources as well as their interaction with gases. On-line measurements of species in the particle and the gas phase were performed both from field-based and laboratory studies. Aerosol Mass Spectrometers (AMS) were used together with the Chemical Ionisation Mass Spectrometer (CIMS) and the Filter Inlet for Gases and AEROsols (FIGAERO). Two ambient datasets were analysed to develop methods for source apportionment, using the Multilinear Engine (ME-2), in order to gain new insights into aerosol sources in Manchester and London. Long-term measurements in London allowed the opportunity to perform seasonal analysis of OA sources and look into the relationship of hydrogen-like OA (HOA) and heavy- and light-duty diesel emissions. The seasonal analysis provided information about OA sources that was not possible to observe on the long-term analysis. During Bonfire Night in Manchester, with high aerosol concentrations, particularly biomass burning OA (BBOA), it was possible to identify particulate organic oxides of nitrogen (PON), with further identification of primary and secondary PON and their light absorbing properties. Through laboratory work, new insights into cooking organic aerosols (COA) were gained, a higher relative ion efficiency (RIEOA) value of around 3.3 for OA-AMS compared with the typical RIEOA of 1.4 was determined, which implies COA concentrations are overestimated when using the RIEOA value of 1.4. Dilution showed to have a significant effect on food cooking experiments, increasing both the gas/particle ratios and the O:C ratios. The data generated in this work, OA-AMS mass spectra and markers from both gas and particle phase identified with FIGAERO-CIMS, provide significant information that will contribute to the improvement of source apportionment in future studies. This work investigates OA, with a focus on primary organic aerosols originated from anthropogenic activities. These scientific findings increase our understanding of OA sources and can help to improve inventories and models as well as to develop plans and policies to mitigate the air pollution in urban environments.
