Design of a 200Gbps externally modulated laser for opto-electronic integration / Design av en 200 Gbps externmodulerad laser för opto-elektronisk integration

Jiang, Tianyu January 2022 (has links)
Segmented traveling wave electro-absorption modulators (TWEAMs) can provide a modulation speed above 100 Gb/s, which is needed in new optical communication networks. In the EU-project TWILIGHT, KTH continues the design work of TWEAMs in the EU-projects IPHOBAC and HECTO with the aim to design a new optical modulator to be integrated with an electronic layer. The structure of the modulator has to be changed in order to make it compatible with the integration technology that will be used in the project. Like in previous projects, the PSPICE software is an important tool for the design work. The past studies left a large amount of different models and test data. This thesis has been focused on studying these models and data to see if they can help the future work in the project. This includes the comparison of the geometrical dimensions, the microwave properties, and the simulation results with the fabricated modulators in the past projects. The electrical parameters are also critical for the design work, especially the capacitance which determines the impedance of the modulator. Since the TWILIGHT project needs a new design of the modulator, the calculation of these parameters will change. This thesis contains a study how this can be done and discusses the parameters for the new TWEAM design.

This simulation was performed using a computer program like SPICE (Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphasis) for the purpose of defining the parameters for its construction, dedicated to the application of the adsorptive bed bench in a glass case studies of the adsorptive process. This technique uses capacitive sensors coupled to an electronic transducer that will generate a voltage signal associated with the distribution of dielectric permittivity of the medium. The simulation is developed to simulate the main circuit, a differentiator, fitted with high frequency OPA 2690. The simulated model is a simple circuit with a transmitter and a receiver. The results show the technical feasibility of the project being proposed for future work to implement a prototype of the electronic transducer of electrical capacitance tomography applied to the study of the adsorption process.

No. of bitstreams: 1 arquivototal.pdf: 2331376 bytes, checksum: b24878b19226d38bdcde15cfe285f7cb (MD5) Previous issue date: 2009-04-30 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / Adsorption refrigeration systems are supposed to complement or even substitute the ordinary systems based on vapour compression. This work aims to study the application of a new technique of Electrical Capacitive Tomography - a parallel approach on the visualization of the adsorption process which occurs in the sorption bed of an adsorption refrigerator. To archive this goal, a sorption bed glass prototype was developed and it allows the utilization of the Parallel ECT to map the spatial distribution of methanol into the activated charcoal inside the sorption bed and makes it feasible to optimise the process. The principles of the adsorption phenomenon are explained regarding the adsorption refrigeration cycle. The Parallel ECT system is based on a wideband electronic differentiator which is supposed to be immune to stray capacitances often encountered in ordinary ECT systems, to have a high sensitivity, good signal-to-noise ratio, accuracy, and to be faster then the serial tomography. The various components of a tomographic system are analyzed as well as the results obtained from PSPICE electronic simulations and the making process of the printed circuit boards for the modules of an ECT system is also shown.

COMPARISON AND EVALUATION OF HARDWARE MODELLING AND SIMULATION TOOLS

Karlsson, Mattias January 2011 (has links)
Avionics Division of Saab AB develops advanced electronics that need to be robust and work in harsh environments with for example extreme temperatures and cosmic radiation without any failure. To succeed with this the electronics need to be simulated and tested. Therefore this thesis work is done to strengthen the Avionics Division’s knowledge of hardware modelling and simulation by evaluating the simulation tools LTSpice, PSpice and SystemVision, their functions and capabilities. In this thesis a survey is carried out with help of a questionnaire to study the Avionics Division’s needs for simulation. The survey is underlying an analysis of the analyses that can be performed by the simulation tools for example Sensitivity analysis, Worst Case analysis, Monte Carlo analysis and Parametric Sweep analysis. The different analyses are discussed in the thesis. The questionnaire is also underlying an analysis of the tools LTSpice, PSpice and SystemVision. The result of the analysis is summarized in Table 1. A case study of a circuit simulation in SystemVision, based on an existing circuit used by Avionics Division, is also done within this thesis work. The study is done to evaluate the tool’s usability, to see if it is easy to perform a simulation and if it is easy to find and use suitable models from the model library. The case study describes how a simulation is performed in SystemVision and how an AC analysis of a Butterworth filter is done. A stability and reliability check of the tool is performed as well as a robustness simulation. The analyses were easy to do and the overall impression is that SystemVision is reliable and user friendly structured. In order to check and compare the results of the AC analysis the same analysis is performed using LTSpice. The comparison shows that the results differ. This depending on that the models of the circuit were some what different in LTSpice and SystemVision. The final conclusion is that SystemVision would fit within Avionics Division’s workflow. Using SystemVision demands education of the engineers to secure maximum use of all the advantages of SystemVision.

Contribution à l’étude des non-linéarités au sein d’une association amplificateur-transducteur : atténuation des distorsions par un mode de contrôle en courant / Investigation on the non-linear behaviour of amplifier-transducer compounds : reducing distortion by way of current driving

Erza, Mehran 22 November 2013 (has links)
Undertaken with the LAUM, this work aims at first tocharacterize non linear distortions relative to electrodynamicloudspeakers with a view to miniaturizing units designed in thelaboratory. Furthermore, a special point about the advantages and drawbacks resulting from voltage or current driving has been investigated. After a brief review about the prominent definitions used in thefield of electro-acoustics, the main properties and specificitiesof transducers are discussed while considering at first linear devices. Considering a generic transducer of the state of theart, the main parameters are given in terms of transfer functions. Then, a current-driving policy is discussed whiletaking account of the actual power operational amplifier properties. Furthermore, the rejection of the mechanical resonance is investigated without any kind of alteration of theideal infinity of the Control Drive Index value. Specific filtering structures are calculated regarding a given transducer and considered either in feedforward or feedback arrangements within the circuitry. After such a first order analysis non linear behaviours areconsidered. At first a straightforward typology of non linearsystems is presented so as to highlight the most importantdefinitions. Then, a special analytical approach is given, allowing us to analyse the harmonic generation from a currentdriven loudspeaker with a mono frequency regime. Such anapproach is extended and generalized by way of original numerical models designed with Simulink®, PSpice® and SLPSsoftware, considering bi tonal stimuli signals. Then, such anapproach is considered with transducers and amplifiers of thestate of the art, allowing us to validate the whole relevantrationale. Thus, the micro speakers actually developed in thelaboratory should be investigated and optimized in the shortrun, considering their relevant electronic conditioning policy.

Compact Modeling of Silicon Carbide (SiC) Vertical Junction Field Effect Transistor (VJFET) in PSpice using Angelov Model and PSpice Simulation of Analog Circuit Building Blocks using SiC VJFET Model

Purohit, Siddharth 09 December 2006 (has links)
This thesis presents the development of compact model of novel silicon carbide (SiC) Vertical Junction Field Effect Transistor (VJFET) for high-power circuit simulation. An empirical Angelov model is developed for SiC VJFET in PSpice. The model is capable of accurately replicating the device behavior for the DC and Transient conditions. The model was validated against measured data obtained from devices developed by Mississippi Center for Advanced Semiconductor Prototyping at MSU and SemiSouth Laboratories. The modeling approach is based on extracting Angelov Equations Coefficients from experimental device characteristics using non linear fitting. The coefficients are extracted for different parameters (temperature, width, etc). Multi-Dimensional Interpolation Technique is used to incorporate the effect of more than one parameter. The models developed in this research are expected to be valuable tools for electronic designers in the future. The developed model was applied for investigating the characteristics of a few standard analog circuit blocks using SiC VJFET and Si JFET in order to demonstrate the capabilities of the model to reveal the relative advantages of one over the other. The selected circuits of interest were Voltage Follower, Common Source Amplifier, Current Source and Differential Amplifier. Simulations of analog circuit building blocks incorporating SiC VJFET showed better circuit functionality compared to their Si counterparts.
